Hello Enola
I have been away for a while, or rather I just logged in and checked only recent talks and missed this one.
The cat's reaction is the natural hunter instinct and I don't aprove with it. The 4 cats my parents in law have hunt turtle dove's nest in the highest tree and this year they killed their chicks when they were almost ready to fly and ate them. Only their feet were left.
It's good you fixed that space and should check for the rest of the house to see it's okay and isolated.

Cats are destroyers sometimes; they search for foods anytime even during night time. They hunger for foods whenever they see or smell something. If you have a lovebird again, make sure that cats can’t get in. I pity on your lovebird. Lovebirds are beautiful birds, their color and shape. It looks like a parrot.
