Do you have alot of furnishing in your home or do you keep it to a minumin? I recently stopped at a friends house for the first time and was shocked that in her living room all she had was a loveseat and a stand with a television on top.....no chairs..no coffee or end tables....the whole room on one side was empty. I had to drop something off so she didn't invite me in but I wonder where guests sit when they come to visit. I could see her dining room table with four wooden chairs but that was all there was besides the loveseat. Do you have a couch and chair and tables in your living room? Or do you like keeping things simple?

My house is more of the crowded kind of home. Actually not really, but it's pretty well furnished and stuff and it's hard to explain, lol. I once visited my friend's apartment and it looked so clean and beautiful. Everything looked spotless, and there were barely any furniture. I kind of really want to live in a house like hers xD Except for the fact that I might just be too lazy to clean it up.

Yep, we do have a lot of furnishings in our home. Each room has plenty of places to sit. We have three levels in our house and all rooms are full of furniture. Our family room right now doesn't have any end tables or a coffee table but our living area does and it looks great. The family room has a couch, futon and recliner and keyboards on one end along with a big tv that is built into a stand. It's not overcrowded yet plenty of places to sit and watch tv. I don't have all my family pictures back on the walls yet but that needs to be done when I get beyond this lazy life and get busy.

I like to keep my home furnishings to a minimum. I have a loveseat and rocker with a televison and stand in my living room, one bed in each room and a table in my kitchen. I do not like feeling crowded and if too much starts to pile up it makes me feel smothered. I get rid of it because i do not like the clutter. I am chlostrophobic and cannot stand so much stuff. My daughter on the other hand has so much stuffed into her house that I do not even feel comfortable there. I guess everyone is different.

Your friend definitely takes the word "minimalist" to a new level! Since the boys are gone I have far less in the house than I used to. I don't think I will ever be that much of a minimalist but have you ever seen that show where people squeeze their stuff into this tiny closet size apartment in New York? They don't even have a bathroom! I don't think they ever have company and your friend doesn't either.
My husband and I have the seating for at least five people in the living room as well as the kitchen. We have a family room with seating for six and a family entertainment system. We also have folding chairs for overflow. Then there's the huge deck in the back with seating for six, a huge grill and a bar area. I could go on but we would have a lot to sell if we sold the house.

yes, we have a lot of furniture in our home, but it would look much better if we didn't. My sister is a minimilist and has just the bare minimum. Her house looks really good and I wish we could have less in ours, but we use most of it so we have to make it OK to be there. )_Derek

I don't actually have my own place yet but I have thought of this. I deally I would want to have a couch wherein it pulled out to be a bed, and I'd have a loveseat or another simpler chair to go along with it, maybe a recliner. I don't think I'd need or want too many furnishings, just enough room to sit and to have storage for things such as my games, movies and books.
I'd want to keep it simple so as not to clutter, but not empty enough to look drab.

Why does she live like that? What about the walls? Did she have anything hanging on the walls? Any knick knacks or other collectibles / decorations? How long have you known her? How long has she lived in a barren and spartan apartment?
Has she just moved in? Is there a money problem? You can get things very inexpensively at garage sales. Is she suffering from depression?
I live in a medium size one bedroom apartment. I live alone and do not have a lot of company. I have everything that I need plus more as far as furniture. As for decorations and knick knacks, I have too much. My apartment looks like a thrift store but it is cute and homey. I have never met a garage sale that I did not like.

It sounds like she is suffering from depression or another mental / emotional problem. She has lived in the house over thirty years and has not hung up any pictures. She has no knick knacks or collectibles. Something is wrong. She has some problems.

Don't be shock my friend. I guess you are not just accustomed to see your friend's house having only a loveseat. You are used to a house full of furniture. That is okay though. Now you know. Well, in our house, we've got a wooden furniture and a Cleopatra couch wherein I can rest while watching TV. For me it is simple.

I like it simple but it's not. My house is not that big, too much stuff mostly from my kids. It annoys me but I can't change it.
I like to keep it simple, not all those small stuff everywhere.
Simple keeps the head and mind easy and relaxed. A messy house but also a full stuffed house are a sign about how it looks like in the head of the owner.

Wow, that's a bit too scanty, even for simple taste. I like to keep it simple in terms of style. I like to go with contrasting sombrely bold colours. I definitely like to play up the eye. I wouldn't keep it that scanty, but I wouldn't clutter my living room either.

I can't say that I have a lot of furnishing in my home, though I'm certain that I have enough. Maybe a complete furnishing is the better description. In my living room, I have a couch and chairs that could accommodate 8 guests, 1 center table and 2 side tables. My dining table is good for 8 persons. I have frequent visitors that's why I find these furnishing necessary.
It's really surprising that your friend seems to be contented with limited furniture, but I'm sure she have her valid reasons. It could be her tight budget or maybe she have just moved to that house. Her lifestyle is another considerable factor. She could be one of those people who are not comfortable with visitors, thus doesn't feel the need for those furnishing.

I've been in that situation before when we have a small house and only a piece of living, and dining room are all the same. No couch nor sala set , only a dining table with chairs. That time I don't encourage guest to come over my place since I don't have space for them inside the house. But when we moved out my youngest daughter requested me to find another big house that has a living and dining room separately. She has friends and classmates who wants to visit to do their projects and assignments so I found one near at her school. I bought a complete set of couch that basically needs for a house.

In my home, there are a lot of furnishing in my home.
It seems that all of them are full now, so in some degree they are also useful. But I also find that many things in them are useless. When i check the things, I think they are all useful, but in most of the time, they are left there as they are. And when i really need them, i can not find where they are.
I think I should organize my life in a better way.

I have too much in my living room but not enough furniture. We have a couch, recliner, tv, tv stand, computer hutch, desk and two end tables and several lamps. However it's all the crap inbetween like the bins with snow pants, boots, shoes, gloves, toys, and unsorted laundry that are just too much. Though honestly if I could go back to pre-kids days I'd have a simpler look and something that's actually my taste not what we can afford / tolerate the kids trashing. Trust me I look forward to them being older and when they move out whatever furniture we have they can have cause I'm upgrading!!!

My house is what I describe as a work in progress so I have no living room to keep furniture in at the moment. I have one of the seats from my van in what will be the hallway/stairwell at the moment!
But my plan, when the living room is complete, is to have at least enough seating for each member of the family plus a couple of extra for guests. I donĀ“t mind sitting on the floor, but it would be a little peculiar to expect guests to do so!

Maybe you friend and her husband were
only starting to build their home. Maybe
they were newly married or maybe they just
started living together o just started living away from
parents that's why they only got a few furnitures.

i tend to keept hings simple and bare minimum. i love space so wud make sure all furnishings are in line to my requirement to the extent that i wud delay the purchase to ensure full moving at home...i dont like crunched spaces
