I have a 3 yr old , 20 month old, and 6 week old. My sister in law booked a hotel for everyone to stay at in panama city beach and even got an extra room for my husband me and the kids to have our own room. i tried to tell her i feel that my youngest is too small to go to the beach yet newborns skin is so delicate that she would overheat and get sunburn. she is very insistent and said she got the extra room just for us. am i being to overprotective about my baby or do i have reason to be concerned for the well being of my baby???? what would you do in a situation like this??

i can understand why you are so worried. a babies skin is very delicate. my kid was takin to the beach at a young age but she was atleast 1 yrs old and was able to walk by that point. i really think that if you get a stroller with the cover over the head and may be a hat and definately sun screen then your babies should be ok. and monitor how long they have been in the sun and take breaks i think that everything will be ok. i know your 3 yr old will jsut love it and have a great time :) if you decide to go just be very cautious about the kids but i am sure your whole family could jut use the get away :D
if you decide to go i hope you have a great time and you all enjoy yourself :) tell us all about it if you go i am interested in hearing about it lol

That's very thoughtful of your sisterinlaw to book you an extra room, but I don't think I would take such a young baby. I was told that most of the sundamage a person's skin receives happens in their first year of life, when their skin is so sensitive and not very thick. With my son, I was very careful not too take him out during the sunniest part of the day (only in early morning or evening) and to keep him shaded. Sunscreen isn't too good for baby skin either, although your pharmacist can recommend the best one.
I think what I would do is send my husband with the two older kids. They could have some fun. Either that or if you do decide to go, just send the older kids out with your husband for the day and you and the baby find a nice shady cafe to spend the day.

This would be something that would be very difficult for me, even if my youngest was the one that was 20 months old. The reason that it would be hard for me is because of the fact that it is scary for me to be around that much water with my children. Now, my children are nine and five years old and we've never been to the beach, but we did make a visit to a lake with a beach area last year and it was something that was scary for me because I didn't feel like I could adequately keep my eyes on both kids at the same time.

Babies or toddlers really have delicate skin and it's a risk to take when you let them swim in the beach. If I were in your shoe, I will not bring my baby in the beach. It's for their own safety as well. It's also hard to bring little ones in a large body of water. You'll never know what to expect to happen if you just let them run around there.

I would take my daughter to the beat at 6 weeks that is 2 months old. You put some sunscreen on the baby, stay inside. There is enough of you to have someone watch your kids outside or take them some where for a few hours while you or your husband takes care of the baby. Just because you go to the beach doesn't mean you stay outside all day or inside all day. Go place see things with the baby get the baby some sun because it is good for a baby to have some sun not a lot at that age because yes they will get hot or burn but if your only going out for like 5 to 10 minutes to get in and out of car or to peek outside to see what people are doing then you should be fine.
I wanted to take my daughter to the beach last year but couldn't because of money instead we took our daughter to our family reunion but she was much older then your little one. She was 6 months old. But the day she was born we took her outside a lot rain, snow or sun. She enjoys it and its good for her. We always made sure what ever temp it was that she was comfy. We ever carried a little battery run fan to help if we need it.
But always do what you feel is right. If you have tell your sister in law would you take your kids at this age or would you wait in case they got sick or something. 6 week old doesn't have the best immune system and can't really control there body temp the way we can and the older kids can.

I can understand that you are concerned about your baby. But i think that you are just being overprotective. I have a friend that has family that live at the beach and she was always going to the beach with my children since they were about a month old. Your baby will be fine as long as you take great caution over your babys skin. Before you go you need to get you the strongest thing of sun screen. If your not sure of what to get then you can always go to a CVS or Walgreens or where ever you get your meds filled at and they will help you find what you need. I would also get one of those really big unbrellas do put over the baby when going out onto the beach. I would also not keep the baby out there for more than an hour at a time. You could also get a spray bottle with a fan on the end and fill it will cold water and fill it half way up with ice so that when your baby looks like he/she is starting to get a little red from being hot you can spray some cold water one them. I would also not keep the baby in the pool for very long because the sun reflects off of the pool water. I hope this helps you and hope you go and have a great time at the beach.
