Beauty or Beast: What happened to the eye of the beholder

I just saw a rather offensive banner ad for a site that purports to tell parents if they will have "an ugly baby." I thought, first of all, that ALL babies are cute, especially in the eyes of their parents.
Are you outraged by that sort of ad, or do you think it is OK to judge people by their physical appearance? Do you think that people who have more physical attractiveness than others are more likely to have more beautiful children?
Studies have shown that people who hire others for jobs tend to choose more physically attractive people over more ordinary looking people with equal or better skills. Do you have any ideas on why they would do this?

That's indeed offensive. All babies are cute and to their parents they are angels. I rather not waste my time with sites like this which give morphed versions of the babies from the looks of the parents. No fun in it either.
People should be hired for jobs that are skill centric, on basis of the expertise and not just the looks. That's how it's supposed to be. However, that's not true most of the times.

It is morally wrong to judge someone by looks but completely natural with our instincts, beautiful people carries beautiful genetics so they would probably have better looking children. They hire beautiful people so they can attract attention. Below average looking people can make up for it by traits or skills developed, really I rather hire a average person than some good looking person who shows barely any skills with their physical appearance.

I need to admit here that when my son was little, he sure was not cute to me even though others thought so. I find him to be a nice looking young man, though. I also do not think I was a cute baby. I think those judgements are superficial, but I understand that some of the things that we find attractive in adults are actually indicators of health. Full, shiny hair, good teeth, symmetrical features. I also believe that the most physically beautiful people in the world can be very ugly because of their attitude. I think at times you can see a sour attitude in someone's features. Babies are cute, and children are beautiful, when they are cared for. I mean when they are clean, and taken care of, not when all kinds of things are lavished on them.

Yes, urchins are cute, and they also bring out a need to nurture in us.

I think that it is a recognized fact that the better looking people will be chosen more than the less attractive ones. It is just what it is. If you go buy fruit, will you take the one that has spots on it or the one without the spots?
We live in a world where beauty is important. Look at all the things people do to enhance their looks.

In the society,i need to say good loking people have more chance to succeed ,espacially in some specific vocations ,rather than ordinary people like me,haha.however ,if such people that live by their outstanding featuresand have no skiils are growing old, what they can do?

It is indeed an offensive banner ; I feel sorry for people with less than average looks but actually if they do not have their self confidence battered it is highly commendable. They do not need my sympathy too.Not all good looking people are great achievers. Everyone would have some God given skill.
Regarding looks being inherited, it is not absolutely necessary though the probability is high.People may impress at first by their looks but a person is intelligent only as far as he opens his mouth.Depth of knowledge will soon be seen.

I've never seen an ugly baby
not even animal cubs. all babies are beautiful.
I don't know why employers judge people by beauty,
they are supposed to hire by experience/knowledge and keep employees by performance

Beauty or Beast, depends on the heart(mind) of a person, obviously
'first of all, ALL babies are cute' denotes ^
why dont we think the same of others, that is judging(common to all)
also, dont u expect(if) celebrities babies to be cuter and expect to be more attractive in future
for the last one: attractive people are always judged to be good than others
in a new place, will u consult a saint-looking type guy or the other(for addr..)
i meant nothing offensive, i believe u trust me

I saw the add too, I don't understand it nor the kind of fun their is in it. Must be a sick person who made it.
And yes babies do look cute to the mother, no matter if it's ugly or not or handicapped we see them as cute. This is the way nature wants it, if not we would not take care of them (it's the same with animals).
To judge people (mostly done by commercials, miss shows etc) is a very bad thing and there is also no need to. What does it bring the one who does so?
I think we can seldom speak about "the eye of the beholder". So many people say the inside counts but if it comes to that (esp. man) they just want the great looking business card that should make them look greater.
