Is there anything we can do about it? Our government approved the fare increase but still there's no salary increase. What will happen to us?

Our government should start acting now. This oil price hikes were being taken advantage of the oil companies in our country that is why every industry were affected. If this epic increase in price of oil will not subside, average FIlipinos will surely suffer from this crisis. The government should regulate the oil prices because an increase in oil prices will also mean a certain increase in public utility vehicle fares.

I agree on your opinion on the matter. Although, the increase of the oil price in the world market has something to do with this continuous increase of the price of petroleum products in our country, yet on my own opinion the passing of the oil deregulation law is one of the major cause of this oil price hike. I just hope that the present government can do something to correct this present issue as the ordinary people likes us are the one who suffer the most.

salary increases should not be dependent on fare hikes. they should be implemented every year because of inflation. most companies have schemes on how they increase the salaries of their employees every year. the government can only mandate the increase for the minimum amount, and normally most companies have increases higher than what the government mandates.

Not most but a few companies try to go beyond the minimum wage increase... but before anything else are we talking about companies based here in the philippines?.. because if so, i disagree to the opinion of yours... like i said not most.. because most of the private companies leveled there salary to the minimum income which the government mandates.. this is a reality to the millions of filipino right now, infact, government salary is higher compared to many private companies... in my case, i have worked in a private sector as a hospital staff nurse, and my earning was raging from 6-7k a month, if we try to compare this to government salary of a Hospital staff nurse on a government hospital having a position of Nurse 1, its salary would be 15-16k a month, not only that i happen to know the starting salary for government newly hired teachers which is 17K basic salary and plus 2K allowance = 20k in all..

I feel really sad about it. But i do understand the side of the drivers, most of their money goes to the rent and the gasoline...but what about us students. Sometimes they don't even give the proper change...

We cannot blame the owners/drivers of public transport for this increase of fares due to fuel price soaring high. That's too desperate honestly. Before I am convenient using my own vehicle because petrol price is not that high, but now, I seldom use my car and use the public transport.Yes, the salary still the same and we know very well that after this fare increase, other commodities will also increase in price, that's what to be expect soon.

you mean what will happen to you?... well for sure on my part, ill cope up with the fare hike increase by earning extra income.. i could sell E-loading or i could sell banana que, ice candy, and "Palamig" juice this summer... i also plan to open up a "sari-sari" store... the fare increase is actually a reasonable one and also salary increase, and by the way, do you know that starting this June or July 2012, the 4th tranche will be implemented meaning to say that there will be an increase to all salary of any government employee.. now with the private sectors, the government should really weigh down its effect, i mean, what good it is if the government approved the salary wage for the private sector yet the twin outcome will be massive lay off of jobs...
