How to Make Things Larger Than What They Actually Are - Creativity? Eh!

Hi Lotters and Friends
Yesterday a friend of mine accompanied me to my family doctor here as I am having a high blood pressure (120/172)!
When we arrived, the doctor was away and soon I got a call from her saying that she will be late by 30-40 minutes. I mentioned this to my friend and he popped up - "The Doctors today are for money and she called up just because she did not want to lose a client"... And this was followed by a whole lot of other examples and situations! GRRR!
I was wondering - What a great way to waste time... As during this time we (me and my friend) were together we could have discussed about our families, the new movies or even the new restaurants that have opened up and I think that would have been a healthier discussion then and also it would have helped me ease off some of my headaches and irritating thoughts!
I know, Politicians, Celebrities, Media, Activists, Medicine Companies (and a lot of others to add) know how to make things worse and larger than what they are... but I am now sure that some more people - like my friend - too know how to make things larger for the worse
So the discussion is - Do You Know anyone with this Super Natural Power and What is your opinion about this! (I know it is not Super Natural but for me It IS as I fail to understand why we make things so complicated)
Cheers

Ha.. ha.. ha.. I like this discussion thread... :D
You know, all through our lives we come across so many people - some radiate positive/optimistic energies while others negative/pessimistic energies. I for one hate negative people. I mean, they just can't stop complaining about anything & everything around them. Your friend sounds like a negative fellow. He is probably right about the fact that "doctors today work for money".. But, come on, we don't need to hear that when we are suffering from some sickness or, as in your case, high BP.. :)

Hi pjha
Welcome to the MyLot Family dear. You are quite right that one must stay away from all the negativity around and trust me I try my best to stay away from such people. I am not sure what was going on his mind(my friend's) as he wasnt this way until a few months back... I am unsure what lead him to come up with all those negatives.

How true!Sometimes , a casual remark in the affirmative sets a trigger of statements and counter statements and this blows into a big discussion on a trivial matter. The more you discuss it, the more intense the lightest of things become. All of us fall prey to this sometime or the other .We need to make a conscious effort not to get carried away and must steer back the conversation to some other light topic.

Dear kalav
This was an unexpected thing to happen from this friend of mine. He was always quite jovial and always on serious subjects. maybe he has been too much into the newspapers of late
I tried changing the subject for once but when he started saying out his negativity on that one too.. I felt safe to keep my mouth shut and keep saying hmmm, ok, ye, thats really bad and he kept going.

hi gardengerty I can have myblood pressure at normal here in gold crest, then get on the access bus to get to my doctor;'s office and get stressed because for each stop he had to make at private homes, he had to wait then the person did not show. anyway I lost my cool so when finally in his office the new intern too k my lood pressure and it was 167 over 100 not 120 over 65 like it had been here.my fault for letting myself get stressed.the bus driver got me there ten minutes early so why did I get all bent out of shape?thesids think positive and relax and take a deep breath as it helps to makeour bps read better. lol tell your friend that being negative has been proven to raise blood pressure and also blood sugar too. I know this as I had a minor squabb le with my roomie and my b lood sugar went to 198 which is no good, so I listened to music and also she apologized and when I took it again it was just 90. so we can take better care pf ourselves with what my hubby called the 3 C's, calm, cool, and collected. lol lol

If it is not self checking and the doctor said so, then that is most reliable. For Heaven's sake please go and stay in your father's place. What are you doing here sitting all alone? Your wife goes out for her job and if you are fine at that place, then go there.

I was at my dad's place most of the day. have returned as I hsome work to complete and then would go back again tomorrow. My wife is visiting me this weekend and I am sure we would find a long lasting solution to this. In the meantime, I am a little better (maybe psychologically). I am thankful for your words and assure that I would take you advice seriously and also implement it.

Dear Kalav
Over the past few days, I m having some headaches and also black-outs on a few occasions(this blackout may be the wrong word but what I mean is that for a few seconds, I just cannot see anything and everything goes black). Also there is constant irritation kind of feeling. So I had gone to consult the doctor a few days back and she had used her apparatus. It wasnt the Digital version (the kind of handhelds at the Pharmacists) but the analog one where they (doctor) pumps into to get the readings. My above mentioned blood pressure was the Doctors reading on that. So I am not sure.
She had asked me to do morning walks, and also asked me to give her details of what medicines I am taking for my Ulcerative Colitis as she knows (being my family doctor) that I cannot have medicines which dont go with the ones I am already having. Yesterday we had gone to discuss that and also ask her what medicines should I take. But she has refused to prescribe any, and watch for another 10 days. Her reasoning - As I never had blood pressure and am suffering from Ulcerative colitis, it is more of a mental issue right now and she wants to wait. She has asked me to move out and either stay with my wife (who is in a different city for about 3 months now) or even move to my Dad's place. She believes, my staying alone and also the hot climate has affected the blood pressure as I always had lower blood pressures all throughout and they always ranged between 60-80/90-120. She has only asked me to intake plenty of water and keep myself busy with friends and family for the time being. I dont know what and how that should help... but as I trust her, I havent consulted any other.

My dear friend, and little bro', I am so glad that occasion is behind you...and I truly do pray, that this encounter will have you look at your precarious health...especially your blood pressure, as an issue that you and ONLY YOU MUST and can control, starting with your environment! It is time to evaluate the negatives/positives, for you and align yourself only, with those that evolve positive re-inforcement! You must make yourself completely aware of the foibles, in this world that create inner stress..and keep yourself absent from those situations!
Being unaware of the Medical system, in your country, I am not sure I am readint the Blood Pressure correctly! With my past training as a Paramedic, blood pressure was one of the signs and symptoms heavily relied on in the field! I am guessing that here it would be recorded 172 over 120! The 172 being the highest pressure (systolic)..and 120 being the lowest pressure or diastolic! Both, of your readings put you in the highly treatable scope! I am especially noting the diastolic pressure! There are several issues I plainly see here, during your visit, your blood pressure should have been taken at least 3 times in 15 minutes! That is to establish a baseline..and environmental fluctuations! At play also, here, is a phenomena called "white-coat syndrome"..the innate buried fear of doctors and what they are going to find! PLUS your Blood Pressure should have been taken SITTING...and then reposing, resting as in bed!
AND the worst dang thing, I find here, is THAT Dr. let you walk away stressing over your BP! A sensitive Dr., in this case lies by omission..NOT letting you know the readings of your last test..but saying things like "Aha, that's better!" Even if it's a few points in their reading...THAT is positive reinforcement..and goes a long way to STOP you stressing and spiking your blood pressure. I HOPE I am making sense!
IN a nutshell, what I am suggesting, it is TIME, for reflection upon your friends, and spend MUCH LESS time with those that create negativity and stressful environment...create positive environments...and get another Dr.'s opinion, and insist upon minimum 3 readings in a 15 min period!
I have been for 3 years, on BP meds., (Metoprolol, Ramipril & Hydrochlorothiazide) and by living in a more positive environment, thinking more positively, taking time to smell the roses...My last BP, two weeks ago..was 120/65..and the Dr. related, that of a "teenager!" AND, I am being tapered OFF my meds (No meds shud be abruptly stopped)! It is possible thru healthy diet and healthy environment to be the winner here....and truly, I hate to brag, but was very pleased (as I was able to accomplish this with the mucousal cancer hanging over my head!)
I think I have missed the point of your discussion, sorry...but WAS so concerned with your health...(can't stop being a Mother)!
For "peace of mind" are you able to purchase a "sphygmometer"...and you will be able to see those situations that spike your BP?

Hi, Pergamano, I am a funny person who is very atypical. If a medical professional takes my blood pressure it is good. It reads around 120/70 or there about. On the other hand, I was taking a class and in training we were practicing taking each other's blood pressure and the young lady found my reading to be 158/90, and so did the instructor. I went to the Y and had a health assessment and had a similar result but I go regularly to give blood, and they always take my blood pressure. It has been as low as 118/66 when the nice nurses in their white coats took my blood pressure. I figure it is because, ironically, I enjoy giving blood.
I agree that our friend needs to not be around negative people, and with healthy eating and environment, I would feel he could have much better results. This negative friend did not help matters any.

@the sids...possibly dear, I was just toooooooo long-winded! In a nutshell....positive environment!
If you can get at BP cuff, you will then track your GOOD and bad times!
Dearheart, I was not suggesting meds..immediately, as I am aware this should be an aid to curing, if cannot be attained by environment, attitude and diet!
My concern that only one BP was taken, in the aftermath of a stressful moment, and more than likely was NOT reflective of your standard BP! That is why, one of the first proceedures, we as paramedics, took a BASELINE BP (as it reflected the stress/shock levels)of the patient...and then took it as a ONGOING proceedure, as more than often a person's stress levels were greatly reduced, when they knew HELP was here!
@My dear friend, Garden Gerty....You have related how a BP can fluctuate, and be all over the map...when confronted with different scenarios, and that is one of the main reasons...you see, it being taken so often, if you are ever in an Emergency room, or even on the "reality" T.V. shows, OR in clinics! It is a "window to the world" of your health, the simplest and easiest reflection of your current health (in the moment health.) It gives the biggest picture, without being invasive!
By the way, GG...good thoughts of giving blood...and a WOW BP! One that I would be proud of..tho' my last was just a little off that mark!
HUGZ to you both!

Dear sister
The doctors here dont take the counts as you mention. It is just once - you go to them, they seat you and do their measurements. I am not aware of the correct way to represent the measurements and mentioned them the way the doctor wrote those down but I will ask her about the systolic way.
Though she still hasnt prescribed me medications (please find the details on dear Kalav's box beneath), she has asked me to stay in company and not all alone. She believes my problem is just psychological but still needs time.
I will try to get one of those "sphygmometer" and then take measurements on my own. That would benefit me in many ways I believe as you mention - the BP should be taken thrice and in three different states. I guess no doctor would do that for Out Patients and I am just unwilling to get admitted to the hospitals... they are miserable.
I hope it is just a psychological issue and her advice works for me because I dont want to add more medicines and medical diet on my list... So I have my fingers crossed and hope that things get sorted out the natural way.

Since your blood pressure was already high, talking to you about things that were pleasant might have helped your blood pressure come down. Talking about things that upset you more could have killed you or at least put your blood presssure really high.
Probably, since she wasn't there, the Doctor was being honest about the amount of time it would take her to get there since she apparently wasn't right next door. When a person's blood pressure is that high here, thhe Dr. tells you to call and ambulance and go to the hospital.
My brother, B, is superhuman. He was sawing a tree underpressure. The tree was almost as wide as he is. The tree sprung back and hit him. He bit hhis tongue almost off. He ws laying under the tree and rolled it off him. He dragged himself to a little minivehicle that has a small engine like a riding lawnmower. He drove himself uphill to his house. He had his girlfriend call an ambulance.
At the hosptial, the Drs. said all his organs were shutting down, there was nothing they could do. He looked at them like they were crazy. Other than his tongue almsot bit off and everything in his body aching, he felt fine. They upset him so much his blood pressure went ski high. But he didn't die. They had to sew his tongue back together. One by one his organs started back up. To this day, he has high blood pressure and diabetes because everything isn't what it was. He probably had a technical heart attack (when you get hit in the chest out of rhythum of the natural beat or he might still have kidney damage) and his pancreas is not working like it was. But he's alive.
They'd never seen anyone have everything but his/her brain shut down and have everything start back up again.
But he's amazed Drs. repeatedly thruout his life. He broke his foot, they put a pin in and said it would be there all his life. Less than a year later, they took it out. He fell into a barbecue pit with hot coals. He stood up and the coals were stuck to him. The coals were taken off and he wouldn't let anyone take him to the hosptial or the Drs. He was a little kid and he held off the entire fire department. My Mom sprayed bactene (a spray that kills pain) repeatedly for two days. Finally, he let her take him to the Drs. The Doctor yelled at my Mom,"Why didn't you bring him here 5 days ago?"
"Because it didn't happen until two days ago and you don't know his superhuman strength. He took on the entire fire department and won!" He had 5 days worth of healing in just a little over 2 days.
Repeatedly he amazes people. I went to someone's house and they said he told B he could have all the metal in the barrel. Instead of using a winch or taking the metal out one item at a time, he just picked up the entire barrel and put it on the back of his truck. He said, "There had to be a 1/4 to 1/2 ton of parts in that barrel and he picked it up like it was nothing." He was only 18.
My brother flipped his El Camino ( a small truck car). He crawled out of it, asked a neighbor if he could put it on the lawn so no one could hit it. He dragged it to the neighbor's lawn. Walked home which was over a mile. Drove the truck and a ramp kind of thing back. Flipped the el camino. dragged it onto the ramp, drove it home and wondered why hsi back hurt. I kid you not. He was in his twenties.
He's in his 40s now and his body is pretty well beat-up. He can't do those things any more, but the fact that he's still here is amazing. The tree thing was in his early 40s.
He is known as the guy who was, and in some ways is, superhuman.
Considering you're still here and all that you've been through, you're probably superhuman, too. Just not so some people would notice. To survive the person who was helping you, you probably had to be superhuman!
Peace and love, and get some kind of good health in there, too. Take care, my friend.

Dear writers
This really makes "B" a special one gifted and blessed from the Lords above otherwise who survives a tree falling on him/her. And as dear Kalav says, such stories are found normally in books... but sometimes they come alive.
I wish you and me were healthier like B and pray that you do get your great health back again.
To survive the person who was helping you, you probably had to be superhuman! yes, if superhumans had to fight for their survival

hi thesids just thinking I survived my son losing his job, us getting evicted and losing half of all our belonging, being here in this rather boring retirement center, not getting back into an apt and its now three years and I was in my early eighties then,. I guess it was courage but many times I could have wept but i did not as that would not have changed anything. we just have made the best of what we were forced to do even if it was not just what we would have liked. We can all do so much more than we think we can, this was the motto the physical therapist told me when I was trying to use the walker and my right leg was still pretty sore from the prat fall on the glassy tile floor here, caused by some thoughtless person spilling coffee and not wiping it up.that therapist gave me words to live by. lo

Hi thesids,
Eat some celery please, that helps for reducing high blood! You know if we want to get off topic, I could talk about celery the whole of this discussion, how good they are for your health, and how easy it is to prepare but then at the end of it, I will tell you I hate celery, and my blood pressure is actually on the low side, so I can't really take it. Now am I creative enough?
Many people I know through work are complainers, they whine about the slightest things, and think that they are the most unlucky people in the world, but actually I find that these people, some of them are very rich and more fortunate than many people. They just do not appreciate it! Grrrr!
On the other hand, some people I met in interest groups are much better. They are fun and interesting and can add value to our conversations. Some people provide a lot of entertainment and knowledge and people swarm to them. I guess what makes a person successful is what the person likes to talk about. Nobody likes to be around negative people and it is better to emit positive energy.

You can cut the celery into tiny pieces and cook it into porridge, it will taste delicious. My grandma also used to eat it a lot because she has high blood and it works for her. Cheerios!

I know lots of people who look for the negative, rather than the positive. I grew up around people like that. I mostly do not have that problem, but I will get busy planning things and make them more complicated and, as you say larger. My kids, and others who know me say that I am "making an elephant" out of things. Again, I grew up in a family where my mother did that a lot. It is so much nicer to just relax and enjoy a simple moment. I personally think it was nice that your doctor called to let you know when she could be expected. We do not often get that courtesy here.

I forgot to mention, I think your Dr. showed you a great deal of respect by calling and apologizing of her tardiness!
I discovered my HIGH BP, after experiencing several periods of "disorientation" throughout the day (not black-outs but discombobulation), sometimes SOB (shortness of breath)..and a few other ODD feelings!
When HIGH BP, was established, I knew I had to change quite a few things...as I already suffer from active "Diverticulitis"....and BOTH are environment based! STRESS, stress and more stress!
Diverticulitis (some similarities to Ulcerative coilitis) is VERY diet limiting..NO seeds, Nuts, grains, and a whole list of others, including MEDS!
TWO of my earlier discussions..were based on my research for food supplements that would benefit both conditions (I should have said "natural" food)!
IF you find the time, please research "cinnamon" (cassia only)..or my discussion on cinnamon! BOTH Garlic and cinnamon have been MAJOR players in consumptives in aiding my good BP health...along with attitude and environmental changes!
SALT, was one...I over-used and had to replace with beneficial herbs!
Winging prayers your way..in hope's you find a place to land..that is warm and fuzzy! LOL!

Dear GG
Thanks for the great suggestions above (on other's boxes and also here).
The Salt intake is already at a low with me for over 3 weeks now. It started with the fact that I could not get the taste of salt even when I had it raw (direct). Then I felt something was really wrong. But unsure, I did not consult. But I did reduce its consumption as I know that this is one sign of knowing that I have some high Blood pressure. As my mom too has this High BP, I was aware that I should reduce the salt and take some fruits which have high potassium.
I dont criticize much these days (yes a few years back before marriage, I was quite negative myself and was never a healthy critic) but I have matured in time and realized that unhealthy criticism of anything will do no good and as such will never be a good way to spend time
This doctor has been attending my family since the past 20 years and all of us in the family go to her first - and move to other doctors only when she gives up. That is one reason and another being "an aged Indian(she is around 65)" - she is more affectionate and caring.

Hi kat_princess
"All of us can be these people" - That is so true. However the good ones know what to filter out and when. This friend chose the wrong topics at the wrong time. maybe if I was in a better health I might have participated but the timing wasnt quite apt. Personally, I do not think this rumbling is going to do any good to anyone.

We have so many choices to 'assume' things but just as your friend most think of the worst assumption. Thinking positive is good for us. I have a friend whose middle name is 'negative'. Her son said to her that she need not cook for them but they will eat out while spending a few days at hers. Instead of thinking of the consideration her son has for her she felt that her son's decision to eat out was because they did not like her food!

True.Negative thinking in people make them imagine and misinterpret such statements.Obviously, the son was very considerate and did not want his mother to slog it out and hence did not even mind the expenditure of eating out. This will also have given them more time to spend chatting and enjoying the company of each other instead of the lady spending time in the kitchen.

Hi allknowing
Once a person starts thinking negative, all she or he sees around is negativity which is quite unhealthy. These people dont understand that thinking negative takes so much of energy and also induces pains - I am sure that this mom would have been quite sad for many days thinking wrongly that they did not like her food. This could have been easily avoided accepting and thinking positive - they wanted a change in the food or even they wanted me to stay relaxed

that s a height diastolic and usually i known those who have hotblooded pressure have higher systolic. anyway, you have already check up and hopefully, the physician already give you list of medicine to take your blood pressure back to normal. any symptoms accompany that trigger your high blood pressure should be avoided, in this way you would live longer and have healthier life together with your loved ones..

Haha! Your friend sounds very much like my mother, buddy! And sometimes mom would even want others to react or agree to what she wants to say, lol! well, sometimes I would make some eye contacts to my mom signaling that she should just stop the "commotion" but hey,she has super natural powers,as what you have said, lol! There are times mom has a point but she wants it to go bang! As in she wanted the person she is talking about to hear her side. And since mom is old,the person just ignores her..but what if not! Oh my!
With regards to your doctor,I understand why doctors are sometimes late to their clinic. Our family doctor has lots of clinics to attend to in a day and it will greatly depend on the number of patients she is going to have in one clinic station, that's the reason why sometimes she can't come on time.
I hope you're feeling okay now buddy, take care!

hi mtr
My doctor isnt that busy. She has only one clinic. Last day, she was late as she had gone to pick her grand-daughter from some party and during the evenings, it is always a good excuse - traffic jams. But I know she wasnt late on purpose. She called me up as she knows me since years now (and she also is our family doctor).
I am better today - just had my evening bath. And feeling better. had a busy day - with family (my doctors' prescription - I mention that on Dear Kalav's response below, seems weird but I think it would work)

It is a kind gesture of the doctor to have informed you about her late arrival. Even if they are money minded, we need them to treat us and understand our body/health issues.
The situations make us frustrated and that result in making things more complicated. No doubt there are people blessed with this talent of negative energy and they talk as if they are being awarded to talk like that. Also ‘make a mountain out of a mole’ is habitual I suppose for persons and for others in your list (politicians etc...) its their food for thought.
I don’t know anyone with this talent but yes my husband is good when it comes to criticizing someone. ….especially my cooking. LOL
Oh, I would suggest the next time take someone who can boost you up when you visit the doctor or call someone who can talk pleasant and beautiful sides of life.
Take care.

hi viju
normally, I would not ask anyone to help me but as I was feeling giddy and had a few seconds of blackout, I thought it would be wise to ask someone for help. My mistake that I got on the wrong one
you mention - hubby criticizes your cooking - I cannot... as my wife will not serve me any food then and it will be me doing the cooking and you know how good I am when it comes to doing those rotis (chappatis)

Hi thesids,
Oh.. criticism in a lighter way - that i see that as complement ..hahhaaaa
Hope you are back to dad's house.
Also try eating oats for breakfast for a while. It helps to reduce the BP. I have followed this for my husband as his Bp used to be on a higher side. Touchwood. he's fine but the Doctor has instructed him to take the BP tablet daily.. take care.

hi the sids friends like that blow things out of proportion/ when I got to my doctors and he c alled and apoloized for being late as he had had to do an emergency surgery I took him for what he said as e had been my doctor for years. I hate it when friends trying I guess to feel for you just make things more grim.I would have told him well she was very thoughtful in letting me know she would be late. I always try to think the best of others unless of course i am proven wrong. You are so right, you and your friend could instead have talked about your families and your jobs, anything more productive than just blowing things out of proportions.

Dear Ms Hatley
a friendly chat always bring refreshments with it. I and my friend would have been more happy discussing the good things instead of the ugly ones.
Never mind, some of the doctors are kind enough to let their patients know about their delays and some even let you know much in advance so that your plans can be re-scheduled.

hemmm...supernatural person huh..??? * thinking so hard*
i know some officer in the government department who supposed to be serving the people but loves to serve them selves.
for example, actually it shouldn't to take a long time to make renewal of our identity card. but they just love to say, please come back again tomorrow as they can do it right away

Hi thesids!!
There so seem to ne a lot of talented people out there that have the ability to make things larger and more complicated than what they are or have to be. It must be exhausting to put that much time and energy into it, but like you said, they must be supernatural.
I haven't the energy for that either my friend.

There are always those who turn molehills into mountains. I prefer those who do the reverse.
As for this doctor, at least the doctor called. My sister went to an appointment, waited two hours and THEN was told the doctor would be a couple of more hours late. She cancelled the appointment and went to another doctor, who is much better about letting customers know what is happening, such as emergency surgery, etc.

Hi mysticmaggie
Though not all doctors here at my place do this but still there are some good ones who normally call up the receptionist at their clinic who then informs about the delay from the doctor. This one in particular is our family doctors and has been treating me and my parents for around 20 years now and 4 generations of our family have had some treatment from her sometime or the other. This might be one of the reasons for her calling me specifically.
The doctors should be responsible and should tell about their delays in advance to the visiting patients. Unfortunate that your sister had to wait for hours before being told about further delays and she rightly cancelled the appointment.
