How long could you go without grocery shopping?

With the food you have in your home right now, for how long could you go before having to go grocery shopping?
We just went grocery shopping this morning, but only bought a few things, and I am going to try to make them last for a week. If we can eat very frugally, this will give us more savings.
We have:
chicken
beans
rice (lots of rice)
spaghetti
macaroni
cheese
milk
eggs
carrots
ground beef
bananas
frozen peas
frozen corn
and a few other odds and ends (enough frozen plums to use as a muffin flavour, enough couscous for two people, etc.)
I think we can do it if I get very creative.

I could go probably three months. I buy mostly on-sale items and stock up when I can and I buy extra meat during the summer farmer's market and put up vegetables and some fruit from the garden in the fall.
I would run out of eggs and fresh milk, but otherwise, I don't think there would be a problem. Of course, I wouldn't have everything I , but there would be plenty of what I .
Basics are tea, sugar, flour of various kinds; also whole grains to mill into flour, yeast, baking powder, salt, pepper and spices, onions, garlic, baking soda, pasta, beans, peas, lentils, rice, cereals. Meat is chicken, beef, turkey, fish of various kinds. Vegetables, canned or frozen are greens, green beans, beets, peas, corn, asparagus, carrots, and so on. For convenience, I have canned cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, etc., and a few home canned soups and stews. Canned peaches and apples, dried figs and raisins, pumpkin by the gallon (frozen from fresh)... I keep going back and adding to the list!
The dishes I could make from these things are practically endless. I was raised on a ranch out of town where we went shopping once a month, so only having a week's worth of food in the house would worry me no end. What if something happened and I couldn't get to the store? A blizzard? The car breaking down? A broken leg? And what if the store burned down?

The problem with not having a well stocked pantry is that grocery stores don't stock food, either. In the event of an emergency, what's on the shelf is pretty much what they have. They follow an JIT or "Just In Time" policy so that they don't have to have storage space. If everyone runs for the bread, they run out and have to wait until a truck can bring more. If the truck can't get there... there is no bread.
I didn't mention water, but I have some stored away. Not three months' worth, though.

Wow. I don't think we have the space to store 3 months worth of food.
I should probably at least get a few gallons of water in case of an emergency.

I shop as infrequently as I can, and stock up on dry goods like pasta, rice and toilet paper then. We supplement shopping with milk, cheese, eggs, veggies and a little meat that we produce at home, so we can manage for months without shopping providing I've planned the dry goods well enough.

If we had to I'm sure we'd last several days to a week or so. Like you said you'd have to get your creative juices flowing. Plus I think it would keep one from over eating if you knew you had to make it last and there wasn't a choice. I know we made things last at several points in my life where we had no choice. I think though having kids makes things tougher because they are pickier, so I always try to keep things they'll eat on hand. Otherwise I wouldn't be so picky... you know like the can of mixed veggies I could eat as a meal w/ some butter on it. The kids well they wouldn't even touch it and they are skinny as rails.

My son is too young to care, I think. he eats whatever is put in front of him right now. I can see signs of pickiness but he hasn't reached that stage yet.
Right now we feel fully stocked up. We'll be eating creatively next Wednesday, I bet.

Well I go for grocery shoping about once a week but most of it I'm buying stuff that i'm going to use on the rest of the week, like oranges for breakfast some cucumber for salads some bread-milk spaghetti etc. I don't usually buy stuff that I might not need :)

We don't usually buy stuff we don't need but sometimes we buy too much of something and forget we have the rest.

I think that a week is pretty good on average. Of course, it does help if you have a knowledge of what you have and what you need, so you can buy things in cycles every week, with a few essentials like milk and the like every week. That is the real key of cutting down the grocery bill, is not needing to get like about fifty things every week.
Still a week is pretty good. Sometimes we might be close to about two weeks but we would have to get to the store for a couple of things, because there are things that do not keep much more than a week at all. Still it is all about creativity when you have to deal with living in a rather frugal manner. It is a science if nothing else.

I can usually go 2-3 weeks between grocery shopping. I always stock up on things when they are on sale and also buy meat when it is on sale and buy the larger portions. I freeze the meat in meal size portions. I always keep lots of flour, sugar and baking products on hand therefore those items I probably only buy every three to six months. Fresh stuff is harder to keep on hand but with what is in the freeezer we are fine for several weeks.

We are trying to go longer but we usually end up going every week. I think we waste too much food though.

With what I picked up this weekend. I know my family can go at least two weeks and not have to see a store. Endless it is to pick up eggs or something to drink.
Over the weekend I went to the local meat shop and bought a meat package that I think will last a while. Had some sirlion steak today and it was really yummy.

We could go about two months, I think, with the exception of needing to buy milk and fresh fruit. I have canned, and frozen items on hand. I try to keep it that way. If income is unstable, we still will eat.

When I was pregnant I was very ill and so I didnt leave the house unless necessary. My Mom delivered a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk to my home for 8 months and we lived off the food in our home. We had a lot of beans and rice, very simple meals. It was enough to get us through. I do really appreciate my Mom for the bread and milk though. It made the situation seem more normal. Yes my Hubby could have gone to the store but he was working horrible hours at the time and I was on medication that cost about $300 a month. She was a life saver. We learned a lot about what we really need and what we want in that time. It was a blessing in disguise. Go as long as you can and see how clever you can be when really pushed to do it.

I think that we would have enough food for a couple of weeks. One of my husband's relatives bakes her own bread, and she just gave us a lot of bread. We also have rice, pasta and many other things, so I think that we would be would have enough food for the next couple of weeks. We would run out of the some things like milk and eggs, but we could live without those things if we had to. I would miss fresh fruit and vegetables if we didn't do any grocery shopping, but it would be possible to avoid grocery shopping. We have plenty of coffee and tea and we can drink the tap water so that wouldn't be a problem.

We could go about two weeks as long as milk and fresh fruit doesn't count. If they do then three days top. I have a pretty good pantry and frozen veggies and meats. I make our own breads and have enough to do that for probably a month or so. So except for the fresh items we could go quite a while.

Now I usually go to supermarket once a week, to buy food materials and grocery for a week use.
But when i was in the school, i do not go out for shopping often. I will wait until things are went out.
But when i stay with my mother, I may go to buy things everyday. So that I can buy fresh food everyday and can spend time with my mother together.

Since we're out of orange juice (something that my boyfriend considers necessary with breakfast), we'll be doing some shopping today. If need be, though, we could technically go for at least a month or so without adding any more food. However, I would have to preserve some of the fresh produce so that it would keep for that period of time.
We have quite the quantities of dried beans, pasta, rice, split peas and lentils. I like to have stuff like that on hand at all times.

Right now we could probably last a month. We would have to eat cereal for breakfast every day but we have milk and plenty of cereal. I have several packages of meat in the freezer of different varieties and I have rice, potatoes, pasta's & beans as well. I have several shelves of canned foods and quite a few frozen veggies as well. We would be without fresh foods in a week or so but we could get by on canned/frozen veggies and fruits. I try to keep my pantry stocked in case of emergencies. It is alright but I would really like to have much more on hand than I do and I really need to get more canned products such as meats. I am really interested in learning how to can my own meats but this has not happened yet. The things we would run out of would be diapers and wipes and toilet paper. That would be a bummer!
