Try getting another version of the program or from some other vendor. That file may be a malicious software which is detected by windows vista and not my windows xp.If it is such a program, better not run the program. Also, vista might have bugs and so do an update through windows update that will automatically fix so many bugs and then it will run the program. If the program still does not work and you cannot find another version of that program, try contacting the program vendor.

It looks like a compatibility issue. What program is inside the rar? Make sure it is compatible to Vista.. otherwise, run it in compatibility mode.

I not yet try windows vista, but I ever try windows 7 and windows 8 both can run older version of windows. You can change the OS system if you want to and what varier said is right too, you can run virtualbox in windows to run another windows.

Most likely if the program is somewhat old that the problem is just a compatibility problem. Windows Vista is know to make many program crash when they formerly worked correctly. Compatibility mode with XP or even earlier may give good results. Also, depending on which activities the program does, it might require an UAC elevation manually.

Well, this is an incompatibility problem.. And if the "Run in compatible mode" doesn't solve the problem, I think you should find the newer version of whatever program that you are trying to run. You can also try to run XP operating system using VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org), and then run the program inside it. Or perhaps for the easiest thing, you can try to change your operating system into XP.

i think this is defenitly be a virus winrar never extract exe files unless their is exe file inside the archive.. so install virus guard and see if it can fix the problem otherwise reformat and install vista again and i recommend you to install windows 7 on that laptop hope you fix it

You could try restoring your system. Depending on which type it is you can completely restore to factory condition. If your system did not come with a disc then this means there is what is called an imprint on your hardrive of the operating system. Try restoring it down from this and it will wipe everything out and when it re installs it will fix any problems that there may be with the windows program.

You should bring your laptop to the proper person who knows what to do. Because if you would keep on experimenting on it, you might get another problem. Only technician or programmer can solve your problem as of now.
