How do you decide which movies you want to watch?

I find movies in different ways. Sometimes I look for a movie that I have heard about or read about online. Sometimes when I get movies from the library I just browse. If I find a movie where the description sounds interesting I borrow it. My husband and I are members of a movie club. They send us movies and when we have seen the movies that we received we return them, and then they send two new movies. The movie club has a website where are able to add the movies that we are interested in. We can can browse the different genres on their website, and it is a pretty good way to get new movies. Some of those movies are not as good as they sounded, but then we just return them and wait for the next movies. How you do pick the movies that you want to watch? Do you pick movies that your friends recommend? Movies you have read about online? Movies where you have read the book? Or do you have other ways to find movies?

I see a film promo on t.v. and it looks good is how I have picked the new films I want to see. Or the film gets nominated for an Oscar. As for the older films , I read about them on my cable t.v. guide.

Bummer! Over here we have a cable channel that airs the old classic movies. I have most of mine on VHS tape. This is when I wish you lived closer. I would ask which films you want to try and I would check and see if I had it and if I did I would invite you over!

That is very nice of you, that would have been great, but unfortunately Europe is too far away. I used to have VHS tapes, too, but I don't have a VHS player anymore, and I gave my VHS tapes to a friend.

Sometimes I also find new movies that way. If the promo sounds interesting I might try to find that movie in the movieclub. Many of the older movies I have read about online or found in a book about movies. Some time ago I borrowed a book about movies at the library and in that book I read about many older movies which sounded interesting, but because they are so old they are really hard to find and I have only been able to find a few of them.

Well, I think it depends. I usually go to the movie rental to pick some movies. The first time I do in picking the movies is looking at the actors. If I recognize my favorite ones, or familiar face (I mean, there are lots of new actors and actress that I don't know, lol) then I take the cover to read the summary. If it interests me, then I borrow it. But if it's not, well, again it depends. I would take any of Leonardo DiCaprio's movies for example, no matter how uninteresting the story is. :D Sometimes I also watch movies that my friends recommend me to watch. It's because they know I would like the movies too. Somehow I'm a bit picky in movies I watch. :)

Sometimes I also pick movies according to the actors. When I heard that my favourite Danish actor had made his own movie I immediately decided to watch it. Unfortuneately he was the only good thing about the movie, because the story was really confusing and boring I know the Danish actors quite well, but there are a lot of new American actors that I don't know. Do you have a good selection of movies at the movie rental? On my island the selection is very, very limited, so I usually get movies in other ways for instanse at the library in the city. I have never tried to download a movie from the internet, my internet connection is quite bad, so it is easier to borrow some dvds.

Wow...when you ask me to mention some good movies, I suddenly can't make any decision. Lol. Well, the movie that I recently watched was the "Three Musketeers". It's a new version, of course with better effect and everything. Oh, I also watched this Australian movie called "33 Postcards". It's drama and a good one. I cried almost all the time. :D But before I mention more, what is your favorite genre? I mean, do you and your husband like action too? Because "The Expendables" is quite good to watch. Just to pass the time. :D

Yes...I recommend you to watch it. :) And glad if you watch many kinds of genres, I do too. But the movie I watched last night (Fright Night) was a kind of vampire movie but I didn't really enjoy it. :D You can watch "Insidious" too if you have time. :)

i use every one of those methods and i really wanted to see The hunger games but to many are going right now to that movie and i will just wait and read the books in the mean time. i used to belong to netflix and waited on movies but i got sick of them never having a movie new that i was dieing to see, when it was at blockbuster and red box, etc. until months after everyone else saw it.

I never got the chance to watch The hunger games, but my husband and I have talked about getting the dvd and watch at it at home. We are members of a movie club where they send us the movies from our wishlist. When we have seen the movies we return them to the movieclub and get two new movies. Unfortunately they don't have all of the movies that we are interested in and the popular movies are hard to get, but it is still better than the shops where you can rent movies. Their selection of movies is really limited and it is very for us to find something that we want to watch.

A little bit of everything. Though I'm pretty certain browsing is my favorite method. I actually don't like it when people try to recommend films to me, believe it or not. I just like finding out what I like for myself rather than being told that I would like this or that. I tend to haunt Apple Trailers and IMDB trailers and I can usually judge whether or not I'd want to see a movie in theaters, rent it when it was on DVD, or just not touch it with a ten-foot pole. I also watch book-to-film adaptations when I've read and liked the book. (HUNGER GAMES FOR THE WIN! Saw it last night and loved it!) Sometimes I'll exchange movies with friends. Sometimes I walk to the local redbox and see what they have. I have a DVD rental through the mail subscription to Christian Cinema. I much preferred browsing the local blockbuster when it was local and within walking distance, but now I'd have to drive for over a half an hour to get to one.

I understand what you mean when you say that you like to find out what you like by yourself instead of being told that you would like a certain film. Sometimes my friends recommned films to me, but I never watch a film "just" because someone recommended it. I look for more information about the film, read reviews or watch trailers and then I decide if I am interested or not. I have found some interesting films that way, but sometimes my friends and I don't enjoy the same kind of films and I am not really interested in the films that they recommend. I think it is possible to watch The Hunger Games at my local theater at the moment, but I haven't decided yet if I want to watch it. I haven't read the books, I have only heard about them.

I would say I do the same thing when someone recommends a film. There are very few friends of mine that I think could recommend a film that I'd enjoy, but even then there are some things our interests are just not in line on. I read the book eons ago it seems, the same year it was published. I've read the other two as they've come out. I'd say it would be much better to read the book first, and if the book doesn't interest you at all you probably shouldn't watch it. Don't take it from me though, feel free to judge for yourself!

Hi porcospino.. I seldom watch movies and as far i can remember, i have not gone to theater more than 10 years. Actually, my busy schedule does not permit me to enjoy. Nevertheless i watch movies when i can and i never follow adds or promotion, so basically i like comedy movies if i can. Have a nice time.

With a busy schedule it can be hard to find the time to watch movies. I do watch movies at the movie theater sometimes, but it really doesn't happen often maybe once a year or something like that. Last movie that I watched at the movie theater was a movie "We need to talk about Kevin" and it was a great movie. Most of the time my husband and I just watch movies in our home, because we can watch a movie on one of the computer while we work or do other things at the same time. I work at night and sometimes I like to relax with a movie before I go to work.

Whenever i go to watch a movie I mostly prefer to know that it is a good movie by asking my friends and relatives that whether it is a good movie or not and then decide whether to watch or not.I also look on the reviews which are given by the reviewers in the Newspaper and in Televisions.

Sometimes my friends also inspire me and I choose to watch a movie that someone recommended. If my friends tell me about a movie I try to find more information about that movie and I read a bit about it so that I can decide if it is a movie that I am interested in. My friends and I don't always share the same interests and sometimes they are interested in other topics than me, but it is still nice to get inspiration from friends sometimes. Reviews is another way to find new movies. In past I often read the reviews in the newspapers, but today I usually find reviews on the internet instead.

I loved to see movies all the time. I sometimes borrowed it from the move centers we have here in my country, an sometimes I borrowed it to my friends. But before that, I do browse movies online to see if the movies are good and enough for my taste. We have lots of movies here in my country speaking with our own language but It is hard for me to pick the one that interested me. My daughters always want horror films and they love to watch it with peeking eyes .

I love psychological horror movies, but I don't enjoy movies with lots of blood and violence. I always look away when there is a gory scene I also like to browse movies online. I think it is nice way to find interesting movies. In the past when there was no internet I read about new movies in the newspapers, but it is much better to browse movies online, because we can find information about the plots, the actors etc, we can read reviews and we can also watch the trailors. Most the popular movies from my country are Danish movies and Americam movies, but I like to watch movies from other countries as well, and on the internet I can find information about movies that aren't popular in my own country.

I do the same thing. Sometimes I watch trailers and read reviews and sometimes I am more spontanious and then I just pick the movies that seem interesting. My husband recently received a gift card to the movies. The gift card includes two tickets and soda and candy, so at the moment we are trying to pick the movie that we want to watch. We live on an island, and there is a movie theater, but the selection of films is pretty limited so we might have to wait a while before we find a movie that we are both interested in. I have been reading reviews online, so far I haven't found a movie, but I am sure that we find a movie eventually. I look forward to watching a movie in the theater, we usually watch movies at home, because it is much cheaper.

Generally i get to hear of a movie from my friends and then i visit the IMDB page of it and go through the plot summary and then the reviews! If it doesn't seem to be too good then i'll move onto the lists of people in IMDB paving way to hundreds of movies to choose from which i've never heard of!Great day.

I often visit IMDB. It was my husband who introduced to me the site and I think that it is a great place to find information about movies. If I watch a movie where I don't understand everything, I use IMDB to find information about the movie. I also use it like you do, and I sometimes visit it if I want to find out if I am interested in a certain movie or not.

Hi there porscospino, Well most of the movies i do get interested in are action and fantasy, but it really up to how the movie interests me in there commercials i try to watch a movie or two with my gal every month and it is just nice. I think if the movie has an interesting story even if it's not the kind of movie i would most normally see, I will watch just to satisfy my movie craving.

I think it is a nice tradition to watch a couple of movies together every month. My husband and I do the same thing. Like you my husband is interested in action movies, but we also watch many other kinds of movies. Sometimes we get new inspiration from the commercials and sometimes we decide to watch a movie because we have read about it online. The last dvd that we watched was "The green line" and I chose that one because I had read about it online. We have received a gift card so we are going to watch a movie in the theater next month, but we still haven't decided which movie we are going to watch. We have to find a movie that we are both interested in.

Usually I pick movie based on couple thing: 1. Trailer that I watch in the movie then I will browse the title online to look up 2. Story Line if the story line seems interesting then I will browse more for 3. review. Then I decide to go or not.

I think that is a good way to decide whether you are interested or not. I also like to watch trailers and read reviews. I usually try to find some information about the storyline before I decide if I want to watch that movie or not, and I think that is a good way to figure out if I find the movie interesting or not. The last dvd that I watched was the "The green mile" and I read about that online. In April my husband and I are going to watch a movie in the the movie theater, because we have a gift card, but we still haven't decided what we are going to watch.

If I really like a movie I also look for sequels. Sometimes the sequels aren't as good as the first movie, but I am still willing to give them a try if I really liked the first movie. Sometimes I pick movies because I like the actors, but most of the time I look at the plot instead of the actors. One exception was a movie with one of my favourite actors. I like him a lot and when I read that he had made his own movie about himself and his life I got interested in the movie, and I decided to watch it. Unfortuneately it was very bad movie, it was very boring and confusing and the only thing I enjoyed about the money was the many scenes with my favourite actor.

My husband and I are members of a movie club and we get many of our movies from that club. On their website we pick the movies that we are interested in and they send us the movies, when we have seen them we return them and get new movies. Sometimes we borrow romances and action films like you. My husband likes action films, but we also watch other kinds of films. The last movies we watched were "The green mile" and a Danish movie called "Hold me night".

I was a member of Lovefilm for a while, which works exactly in that way and the DVDs are sent by mail. This was a very worthwhile way to hire movies and I would browse through the online list by genre. Of course I reached a point where the majority of DVDs that appealed to me I had already borrowed, so the availability slowed down dramatically and I cancelled the membership. For offline movies I tend to browse through the cheap DVDs on sale to see what is available. I find it very difficult to decide on modern ones because the title rarely gives a clue to the content of the movie, so unless I have previously heard of it then I shall simply ignore it.

Well, when i go shopping, i often have a look at the posters of latest movies. Then after going back home, i will have a look through my computer. Of coures, whether a movie is worhty seeing or not, you can know it after watch it for less than ten minutes. Of coures, others recommendation is also a good source. In fact, i have a very touching love movie to share with you, mylot friends. It is called"suspect X", it is about a genius in Math who sacriface his life for a single mother who kills her ex husband for self protection. The hero loves her very much, but he never says his feelings to the woman. He just uses his deeds to show his love.

I also look at the plot at first, because that gives me a general impression of the movie and makes it easier for me to decide whether I want to watch the movie or not. Sometimes the movie sounds better than it really is and sometimes I get disappointed when I actually watch it, but the description of the plot is still the first thing that I notice about an unknown movie.

I often find movie reviews on other sites for instanse some of the Danish sites where people write about Danish movies as well as international movies. Sometimes those reviews inspire me and make me interested in a particular movie.
