rebuilding database

do I come to the right place? excuse me guys. I want to know more about rebuilding database. my xmb doesn't show bluray icon after playing gow 3 for two hours. some say I have to replace the laser. but before that I want to make sure by rebuilding database first. my question is does "rebuilding database" have some effect to my current cfw? I have hermes v4 installed.
