hello everyone...
I admit that my parent over spoiled me and I was too lazy to make my own food, we always had maid at home who cook for us. beside I had this kitchenphobia (it is more like a laziness than a phobia) I always jumped whenever I fried something, scared that it would explode hehehe...what a drama!
so time is changed and i realized that one day I must know how to make my own food, what if in the future I could not hire a maid or im not rich enough to have dinner outside all the time. it's time to make a change and overcome my phobia (or my laziness!!!)
I started to learn how to cook just recently, and I cook easy food such as soup. so this is the 1st soup I made, it is called as Sayur Asam (The Sour Soup). I browse the recipe on the internet and tried to make it.
would you have lunch with me, I can promise that the food has no poison in it but i cant guarantee how is the taste hehehe...

I also know a little about cooking. I am getting worried that I may not be able to satisfy the appetite of my soon to be family if ever because of my limited knowledge. Unlike me, my mother is a expert! I sometimes ask how she cooked a meal that I like so that one day I can cook it myself.

Well, that is the problem. I do not have much interest with cooking. I don't know why, but I tend to forget recipe's that I have learned. I hope this is just temporary and would love cooking eventually when I have a family of my own to cook for.

Hello bhonti, dont have to worry about your food. Im sure that everyone will like your home cooking because you make it with a lot of love. well, always remember that practice makes perfect. my mom is an expert too but the problem she is always busy at work. so if your mother isnt too busy probably you can accompany your mother in the kitchen and cook together, it will be fun a great bonding with your mom.

It's great that you are learning to cook, your soup looks good!
You can use a cookbook or find recipes on the internet, and a bit later even create you own recipes. Don't get discouraged if something doesn't turn out the way you wanted, just give it a different name, lol. Cooking can be fun if you make the dishes you like.

Hello almond24, wow your username remind me to almond chocolate and Im delighted to eat it. Yes, Im interested to learn how to cook not only because I want to prepare myself to be a good housewife in the future (I dont mean to say that a woman who doesnt know how to cook is a bad housewife, but I want to be a wife who can save money by making home made food) but also I think cooking is great because we dont have to depend on other people (like maid or buy fast food). I calculate that by cooking our own food we can save a lot of money than buy fast food, so I think it is good for my budget. Hahahaha I love your idea to not be discouraged if the food turn out not as they way I wanted, you give me idea if next time it happened to me I'll name the food after my name.

Haha, there was a thread yesterday about chocolate coated almond, now I will seriously need to get something like that
You're right, by cooking at home you can save a lot of money, and you can be proud that you cook nice food for your husband and family. Not to mention that you will know what is in the food that you cook.

Thats a good thought and l really appreciate your effort. Why we be dependent on others when we can do something our selves. God has given us everything what he has given others. I mean he has given us 2 hands to do our deeds and so does that maid servent had. When he/ she can cook for us why can't we. Start doing others chores of your house work like cleaning atleast your own room, washing your own dishes etc.

hello there thank for the respond. I agree with you to learn not to be a dependant person specially bewcause we dont know what might happen in the future. in my country, the fuel price will be increasing on 1st april 2012 and im sure that everything will be increasing too, it is gonna be hard for most of us. the price is up but the salary is still stagnant so it is better to be wise in spending money such as not having dinner outside too much. cooking our own food can save a lot of money. I calculate if we went to resto we pay $3 (30,000IDR) for one serving portion of squid cooked with hot spicy sauce but if we make our own food with 40,000IDR/kg of squid we can serve the whole family.

hello Safety69, I can only cook on weekend but I think it is not a matter because there will be more people at home, and my sister always visits us every weekend. you just give me an idea to browse on youtube to find videos about art of cooking. cooking is fun, it is not as hard as I thought. Indonesian dishes are easy to make, one thing we never forgot to make is sambal (chilly sauce). thanks for the inspiration, I will practice more and more when I have the time. great to have a lot of support from mylot members.

That looks delicious. It'll go well with tempe/tofu goreng and sambal/chilly paste, won't it? Then you eat together with steamed rice, hmm... It's lunch time here, your invitation makes me want to go to an Indonesian Restaurant here which serves sayur asam. All the best with your new found interest; I think you started well...

I had this thing where I didn't really know how to cook, I wanted to learn but had a phobia of messing up. Now though, I cook and teach myself new dishes. It's a natural talent in my family, and so it's really a breeze for me.
I don't do much with meats though as I am still scared with those.
I think that it's great you're getting over your own phobia and hope you continue to enjoy cooking. Please post more photos of your masterpieces. Maybe I should share a few of mine own.

hello SomeCowgirl, wow you are so lucky to have cooking as a natural talent in your family. I dont think I have this talent but I believe practice makes perfect. I prefer seafood than meats because seafood is more tasty and easier to cook. I will try to post more picture of what I cook, I dont cook everyday only on weekend. next time I will try to make traditional snack and I will post the picture here...I promise.
