What do you do to rekindle hope?

I was wondering if the wonderful mylot community would give me their best tips on how to put on a brave face and a smile. I've been dwelling in a deep well of hopeless of late, and some days just want to curl into a ball and cry. Thankfully they are the monitory and most days I simply throw myself into what I do have. It steams not from depression, illness, tragedy, or even simple inactivity, but from a series of empty possibilities which had my hopes soar and be left hanging until time dragged them to the ground again. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Hi gfeef01, I know exactly what you mean, unfortunately. My only advice to you is to allow yourself down time; I'm not even going to pry into your life and ask you what has you feeling this way when you do; that's none of my business but as for me, when I get 'like that' I've given up beating myself up over it. As for me, I take it easy the times I feel like that, thankfully 'they' never last that long to be too much of a worry but I find being 'kind' to myself helps put me right again. That's very individual to each of us so I would suggest you think about what kind of things lift your spirits. Some ideas are taking a long soak in the bath, meditation, going for a walk, writing, listening to music, chatting with a friend etc. Mind yourself and most of all, be good to you. None of us are invincible but whatever you are going through, know that you're not alone. IrishGal77 :)

just reading your response lifted my spirits. strange how a problem shared, even in the vaguest of terms does really help lift the load. Many thanks for responding.

Joke books, joke tapes, stories that take my mind off of things that I read. I've got cancer. Some doors are shut for me now, but others are opening. Comedy movies. Get a different dream or a different hope.

New goals that are obtainable are usually better, too.

Hi, everyday is a new day and of course, a new brand of happiness from things that we usually do or from things we newly encounter. Everyday might not be as the same as yesterday and the other day. Sometimes, it is somehow difficult, easy or somehow a very regretful one. The point here is, everything has to pass, to left behind and start all over again. Be hopeful always, take time to unwind to recharge yourself again. If you're a sporty type of person then you play your favorite game to help you exhaust the kind of feeling. Or visit your parents and have a healthy conversation with them. If your a family person, treat your family to enjoy the outside world like going to beaches or wonderful spots in your place. Most importantly, say a prayer and ask guidance to your God if ever you have because that's very helpful too. You always keep away to negative resort for it won't help you but instead would ruin everything you have and your life. I got a little thing for you to help you up again. Have a nice time.

I think reading and watching funny stories and videos, reading positive books, listening to nice music, any kind of art can help... finding a new hobby and focusing on smaller plans first. I'm looking for solutions too. All the dreams and plans I had were anulled lately, and I'm still recovering. But this is temporary and you will feel better, even if it takes some time.

thanks, recovering is probably the hardest thing, it always seem to take so long, but it's good to know that the horizon will always hold the sunrise.

When I'm feeling all out of sorts, I tend to write poetry, or start writing a new book. I also jog, or go for a walk alone or with my foster dogs. I tend to try and come up with new ideas, such as gift basket making for people, even though its not for myself, it still places a smile on my face knowing that I brightened up someone's day. There's all kinds of things to keep your mind occupied, but then again, sometimes nothing seems to help; I know...

I so resonate with these feelings. Indeed some days are just dark and no light can seem to cut through, but the world of wonder and imagination are also a great comfort to me.

i rekindle my hope by going to church asking for guidance to the lord. the lord is my savior and it is He whom i gather my strength from. i do also think of my love ones. these things give hope to me so that i could continue on living with my everyday life.

I too find hope in my belief, my church, and my saviour. I'm glad someone had the courage to post that here. sadly a huge part of the problems I have now are tied up in the church, not maliciously on any account but still hugely connected. I am dwelling on the story of Sarah in genesis, I laugh at her frustration and remember that the promise of a child took 25 years to be fulfilled. It gives me patience afresh each time I remember.

I know what it's like when your in that pit of despair, it's hard to climb out. What keeps me going is thinking about the future, and how it can be a lot better than my past and present. I have a goal, to set up a business, and I visualise myself going through the stages - first self-employment, then making enough money to expand, then renting office space and employing a couple of friends who've been on the dole for years. I visualise each step as clearly as I can, including the stuff I can do today and tomorrow to bring me closer to my goal. I also try to flip my thinking round, to see how an apparent problem can also sometimes be an opportunity. For instance, I've been unemployed for about four and a half months now - which is bad news from the point of view that I struggle to pay my bills. But flipping it round, it's also good news, because in another six weeks or so I'll qualify to apply for a government scheme that helps the long-term unemployed set up businesses. Sorry about waffling. I suppose the short way of saying all the above is: Dream of a better future, plan how you can bring it about, look for the opportunities that are there and find something you can do today (no matter how small or apparently trivial) to bring yourself closer to your goals.

I just keep talking to myself through out the day thinking about my success only rather than what has gone wrong.I do that for getting the extra bit of energy during my hard times and sometimes it also helps me in getting the real solution of my problem.Even you won't believe sometimes I get new thoughts and strategies also to tackle my problem.

I don't claim to have the answers to all your legitimate questions in rekindling hope but let me share a little which may give something to rekindle some ideas. Hope is believing in a future state where your dreams or what you hope for will become reality. When you get hold of that dream, put it in your heart, and it's something that you truly want to achieve, all the hopes will soar to its highest peak. Your dreams will rekindle the passion and the strength for you to wake up early in the morning and go to bed late at night. The power of a dream lingers long enough, and when it is written in the table of our heart, bound in our neck, it becomes a consuming fire that will be difficult to quench. Get that dream again and be passionate about achieving it.
