We are fortunate to have two farmers markets in our area.
I usually go to one but have not been to the other so think I will head down in a few to see what they have and prices.
Vegetables are usually really much cheaper than the grocery store and always tastes so much fresher.
We also have a flea market that sells vegetables and fruits. I tend to forget to go there but with the way prices are going up again it may be cheaper to start remembering to go to these places.
Do you value your farmers markets when they are in season?
I am hoping to steam fresh carrots and greenbeans for dinner and have tilapia fish.
Sounds like a healthy dinner for tonight.
Hope to see you at your local farmers market helping others in their local business!

We do have farmer's markets, but most of them are so far south that it isn't worth the cost in gas to go compared to shopping at one of the grocery stores...
My mom used to like to go to one when it was near her, but they closed long before she couldn't drive anymore. Not sure what's in that space now, tho I think there's a bar in the area...
When its more than 10 miles away it isn't worth the cost to drive.

Except that HEB, a local (well, TEXAS local) grocery has really good produce, fish, meat... most of it from Texas, and it hasn't gone to sit around warehouses for a week... and they buy from family farms, yeah, large family farms, but still...

I lived in texas for a year and I remember going to HEB. Lived in the San Antonio area.
With the cost of gas your right if you have to drive very far with it going up every day it can be not so economical
I usually only go out once a week to drive anywhere so I can go down and do my farmers market then sit out in the park by it. Nice breeze comes off the ocean LOL

Honestly 15 miles is a good deal even for my gas hog of a truck. If you can buy 30 of food and save 5 bucks doing so then you will make out in the long run. The health benefits to you and your family of eating good fresh food and also sticking it to big companies is always a good thing.

There's one farmers market locally, but a couple of others within a half hour or so drive. I usually only go to the one. I really enjoy going, not just for the food, but for the atmosphere. There are vendors selling roasted peppers in season as well as kids playing violins for charity or Master Gardeners with all sorts of information and things like that. Sometimes it's almost like a country fair.
I'm so glad to see so many farmers markets popping up everywhere. I think it's great to be able to support local farmers and gardeners, and, as you said, the food is delicious and cheaper.

I am a big fan of farmers' markets--real ones, of course. I've been to some fake ones--places that didn't have any actual producers.
I also very much support CSAs. Community supported agriculture is one of the best ways to keep family farms in business. Plus, a CSA share is cheaper than buying produce in the supermarket and sometimes even the farmers' market.
I believe in fresh, local and organic. Good food doesn't require that one be wealthy, and bad "foods" carry very high costs in terms of human health, human rights and the well-being of our environment.

I am hoping to have a farmer market near our community. Our community is a new one,and there are less people nearby. So if we want to buy some fresh and cheaper vegetables , we will go far away .Usually it takes us at least two hours by bike to the market.i admire you and i hope we will have such market as yours.

We have three farmers market around our area and it sure save us a lot of money. Each farmers market has specialty that we love to get. Like Farmers market A has best choice on fruits, veggie, fish and meat. Farmers market B has specialty on best seasoning and special foreign food I love japaneese food and Asian food (philipine, indonesia, and singapore) also Korean bun. And Farmers market C has all cheapest vegetable you can get like vegetable worth $40 at walmart you can get that for the same amounth and quality for $16 but we have to pay in cash no debit or credit. We love just going to any farmers market on weekend always happy with our shopping.

I remember seeing the markets in local towns in vietnam when I was there. Unfortunately then I was in the Army and could not get to cook. I would love to go back and see them again! It was always awesome to see what new stuff they would have like fish in season etc.

We only have one farmers market here. Most of the time it has a few older guys sitting around selling onions and potatoes, but around the beginning of May we start to have many people show up with wonderfully good veggies. There is a group of Amish that show up with some of the best watermelons and cantalopes I have ever tasted. There is also one guy that says if your food taste bad to bring back what is left and he will give yo a full refund and replace the whole order. For the most part the price is cheaper then Wally World, but even when it is not the quality is always far better. I also strive to support my local economy.

I agree and you know you have to wonder how long vegetables and fruits have to sit before they are brought out in the stores. I see a lot of spoilage. Its sad.
High prices and food spoils. I will trade that for the farmers market too!

Oh i love farmers market.
Here in our place, we usually have them around 5 to 6 am. They are all lined up on the road, and sells so much cheaper and fresher veggies and fruits.
So usually during weekends, my husband and i wake up early, to buy from them. A 300 pesos can really let you buy a lot already good for the week.
