Do you do spring house cleaning

Let me make it perfectly clear: I am no domestic goddess! I let my house get dusty for sometimes two weeks. (I love hepa filters) I hate vacuuming and scrubbing. So my kitchen is black, white and yellow so I don't have to go looking for dirt. My bathrooms are totally white and clutter free. That way I can see everything that needs to be cleaned. But today I am spring cleaning! It's the only day all the windows get cleaned, the sheers are washed and the carpet and walls get cleaned in places I never get to throughout the year. My mother would tell me she taught me better but she was the "queen of clean"! I am not. I should be cleaning top to bottom once a week. I chose this day because I know it will be my last opportunity to do so because I'm doing fun stuff over the weekends from here on in! Summer, for the most part is "paradise" from June through October and I will take full advantage of it! So how about you? Do you like a "sparkling" clean house at all times? Do you thoroughly clean once a week? Or would you rather live your life another way?

I am spring cleaning also.....since I live by myself the only room that really gets to be a big mess is my craft room and right now I am not touching it until next week. I am going to my friends in Wisconsin for the weekend....and when I get back I am going to go in there and reorganize! paint or paper....then do my bedroom....then the outside painting.....then.....relax.

Hi 2004cqui, It's called a Spring clean for a reason! Only takes place once a year! LOL! I do like to keep a clean house, I dust and hoover downstairs practically every day or every other day at least. Upstairs gets a hoover once a week and a dust maybe twice. Bathrooms are cleaned every day or every other day. Floors are mopped once a week, this time of year beds are changed once a fortnight but will do them weekly when the weather gets warmer. We shower daily so it's not a major issue if the beds are left a little longer. Now, a Spring clean for me is literally turning the place upside down and inside out and will take a few days. Curtains are all washed and hung immediately so I don't have to iron them. Beds will be moved and hoovered under them (I do do this every few months too as well as hoovering mattresses and wipe skirting boards) but I'll also turn the mattresses round. Wardrobes will get a good clean out, I'll go to town on the kitchen cupboards and appliances like the oven and fridge. Everything is kept sort of ticking over and I never let the place get manky to the point that when the Spring clean comes round that the place is filthy, but I just love a clean house! IrishGal77 :)

Wow Irish! After all that I'd need a nap! I clean every other week and change the bed sheets once every other week, the week I'm not cleaning. In spring the windows are scrubbed, inside and out. My walls are scrubbed once a year, just not in spring. Usually when the windows are shut for winter.

LOL! Fair play to you. You won't catch me scrubbing the walls here! They get a going over with a sweeping brush that has the head covered in an old pillow case, just to 'de-cobweb' but other than that.....I couldn't be scrubbing the walls of this place noooooooooooooo!!!!

I "like" to have a sparkling clean house but it never happens! Sometimes I feel like I spend so long cleaning it and trying to tidy everyone else's mess, I just give up after a while and leave it. At least that way, I can see that I've done something when I do get round to it! I try to do a thorough clean as often as I can but that's not always very often. I've usually got loads of work to do and then, if I take a break from that, I don't want to spend it cleaning the house! I also try to keep the house clutter-free but that's difficult when my other half seems to be constantly bringing more clutter and never getting rid of the old stuff! I counted 11 cans of deodorant of his in the bathroom! At the minute though, I'm working and studying and my partner isn't really doing much at all so I leave the housework to him. Then I do it when I've got time!

I would love to have a sparkling clean house all of the time but I do not have the time. I am doing good to get the every day things done. I have started the spring cleaning. With that I have cleaned out closets and dressers for everyone in the family. I still have to go through the guest bedroom closet where extra clothes are stored. I am going to sell the extra clothes at a yard sale or give them to Good Will. I have a 2 year old toddler and 5 month old twins so my time is limited. I am doing good to get done with all of the laundry and get it put away. I wish I could be up to par on my cleaning but I am not.

You only get one shot at raising children. I spent more time on my kids than the house. In fact we bought a small house which was much more manageable. We didn't move to a bigger home until the oldest was 15. Let the dust gather and the mirrors get splattered. The kids come first. My mom didn't have much time for me when I was little. She would rather can, clean, wash clothes or iron than spend time on the floor playing with me.

I clean when I feel the mood to do so. At this moment I am cleaning up my house and scrubbing too but not everywhere. The shining sun shows more dust and also I am packing to leave to Hungary. So I like it to be clean when I return. I am not the way I was years ago. cleaning and scrubbing whole day on and feel deadly tired. Each day a bit mostly what is bothering me most.

And by the way, the colors I've chosen for different rooms in my home make anything and everything stand out when it needs cleaning. I hate to go hunting for dirt!

I love your statement, "I am no domestic goddess!" That describes me completely. As I get older I clean more and more, but I still hate doing so. I appreciate the way my home looks and feels when its clean, but its such a pain to get it that way and keep it that way. The way I see it, I wasn't put on this earth to [cook or] clean. Therefore, I won't dedicate my valuable time to doing so. I do not live in a dirty home by any means, and I cook and clean when I have to. The rest of my time is spent working, caring for my child & dog, and having fun with family and friends. I only have one life to live, so I'm going to live it, not spend it cleaning every day.

I live in a clean, tidy home as well. I clean as seldom as I can get by with. I've had this philosophy throughout my life. If it can't be done weekly in 3 or less hours out of one day it's left for "spring cleaning". Lazy? I don't think the pearly gates does not count how clean my house is. It does count how much effort we give to our friends and family. All I remember of my mom is work. She didn't drive, she didn't have a drivers license. Her hobby was keeping house, canning and cooking dinner for dad when he came home from work. My hobby was talking to my children and guiding them to who they are today!

Yes I do like my home to be clean all the time. My whole house is always clean even the dishes are washed and put away when they are used. I dont throw my clothes on the floor they are always put away. I dust every other day and vacuum once a week. The only thing I do for spring cleaning is shampoo all the carpets in the house wash all the windows from inside and out, and wash all my walls.

I get a kick out of "The only thing I do"! That's a lot! Hate the act of having to clean but I don't like a dirty home. I'm stuck either cleaning or always having my mind on cleaning. I'll even pay out extra money just to make the job as easy as possible. We have hepa filters on two vacuums and the furnace And Ionic breezes. It makes a big difference!

Drapes have been band from every home I lived in for the last 35 years! My husband washed all the mini blinds and I wash the shears. My house is so clean my mom used to comment on it!? I just refuse to look like I'm cleaning (hehe).

Well, dear friend, talking about housecleaning, you found me, probably the right person. I want to immediately point out though that I love living in the clean throughout the year. not only for the spring! I do not live alone, but with parents and a younger brother. I like, and gives me great satisfaction to do the housework. If need a few tweaks. I also like doing the dishes, and to do such work, are very quick! Like now, I should give to the white walls of the chamber of my little brother, I should do next month (April) as I get enough money to buy the material. Live in cleanliness, in my opinion it is much, much better than!

Oh I love spring cleaning! I like a clean house, but I don't go all out on it all the time. Spring cleaning is time for really getting down and getting things all clean. Like you said, cleaning windows, deep cleaning the carpet, and paying attention to all those places you'd normally skip over. Cleaning out the closets and getting rid of things that are no longer of use.

I guess I must like the lazy way of of doing all of that. I have three places where I store everything out of season. As I do the rotation I collect the clothing, etc. on my cedar chest that I know I will never wear again for one reason or another. Then when the truck comes around to collect this stuff for charity I pack it in a great big construction strength bag and away it goes! Closets get cleaned out once a year but in rotation. I'm thinking a yard sale is in order. We don't throw big parties any more so Christmas decorations may have to go soon!
