One horse race after the next 2 games?

Manchester City could only draw 1-1 against Stoke City. So if Manchester United wins its match against Fulham at home, it will be a 3 point gap between the two Manchester clubs with United at the top. United will play Blackburn(A)and QPR(H)next and City, Sunderland(H)and Arsenal(A). Will Manchester United lead by 8 points after these two forthcoming games? It will be a shame to become a one horse race with 6 games to spare. Will it happen?

Even with 8 points gap, i can't say it's a sure win for Man united because anything can happen in soccer. Form and injuries decides everything. Right now, man united is on form and they have not lost in the EPL after those consecutive losses to Blackburn and Newcastle. With such form leading to final third of the season, i can't see any reasons for Man united to falter. Man united is used to winning and with every defeat, they always bounced back stronger. As for man city, their morale has been severely dealt with, nobody knows if they are able to bounce back, when players are unhappy about Tevez saga too.. haha

If Manchester United can avoid defeat in the Manchester City game, they will win the title. With the poor away form that Manchester City has got, their failure to collect maximum points in away games may just undo whatever goods they can serve up in Etihad, even if they beat Manchester United there.

Mathematically even Chelsea and Newcastle are still in the race to win the title, however unlikely it may be. But realistically, with an 8 point lead in the last 6 matches, Manchester United may need to win only 3 matches and draw another to secure the title if their goal difference is bigger than Manchester City.
The remaining matches:
Manchester United
Wigan(H) Aston Villa(A) Everton(A) Manchester City(A) Swansea(H) Sunderland(A)
Manchester City
WBA(H) Norwich(A) Wolves(A) Manchester United(H) Newcastle(A) QPR(H)

With the 1-0 win last night, the 3 point lead is confirmed now. Manchester United did not play well last night and the match could even have been a draw if the last minute legitimate Fulham penalty claim was given. It shows what a champion is like: play poorly and still win. If the opposing team plays better but the referee is with you - luck.

While Man Utd has on paper a easier run-in, they could be in for a surprise. Teams like Blackburn and QPR are fighting for their survival and from the history of the Premier League, such ties will not be as straight-forward. Being a neutral, I would like to see the title goes all the way to the wire. But things does not look good for Man City. While their home form is formiable, the same can't be said when they went away from the Etihad.

I guess there are no easy games in EPL. Fulham proved just that last night against Manchester United. With a little bit of luck, they could have even won the match with their shooting and the legitimate penalty claim at the last minute. I am sure the likes of Blackburn and QPR, like you said, are not going to surrender without a fight. With a 3 point lead at hand now, I think Manchester United may want to play safe now with emphasis on their midfield defense while their forwards are trying to pin the play in the opposing half. Taking no risk. A small win is enough.

Man city doesn't have the experience as a team to last the entire season. Though man city have players winning titles at different clubs, but majority of them are in slower leagues like La liga and German league. To apply their mentality in a fast paced english game, they need time, and they need more than a season since players come and go so fast. Man united has always been there, the highest level, year in year out. Man united doesn't have to win beautifully, as long as they keep winning, pressure is on Man city.

With a 3 point lead that Manchester United is having now, the onus is certainly on Manchester City to keep up the pace. I agree with you that Manchester United is not going to try to play beautifully. They will want small wins. To substitute Rooney with Scholes with the score at 1-0 against Fulham made me disappointed. It was so unManchester United! But luck was smiling at Sir Alex in the end. If Manchester City loses the title race this season with more than a 6 points difference, we may see a new manager there next season. They will not wait to win it only after they have enough experience. Is Etihad a fast food brand in the making?

It will be exciting to watch if the race is decided on the last day of the season. At the moment Manchester City needs more encouragement and cheers from their fans to propel them to tackle all their internal and external problems. Tevez can be a crucial player to turn things around as well as to make things worse. Play him in the first eleven will anger the other forwards. Play him as substitute will make Tevez more disillusioned. Mancini is having such a hard time. You just have to feel sorry for him.
