Several minutes after eating lunch, my head begins buzzing, my eyes droop and the top of my desk begins to look as cozy as a feather mattress. Yes, I feel very sleepy and tired shortly minutes I have my lunch.I've tried to fight it by listening to music but oftentimes it doesn't work.
Are you also experiencing getting sleepy after a meal? Do you think it is due to overeating? What do you normally do to beat this afternoon slump or mid-day sleepiness?

I usually also experience this, especially if I ate a very good lunch and I don't have any pressing commitments for the succeeding hours. Also, it doesn't help if I was deprived of sleep from the previous night.
Actually, I can't believe that I took a 2-hour nap after eating lunch. My favorite food was served and I was only too happy to consume it. I didn't notice that I fell asleep afterwards. I try to blame it on the weather or the food but I have to admit that i really need some good sleep.
My usual method for staying awake is to drink weak coffee. That way I can still sleep at night but stay wake for teh afternoon. Sometimes, reading helps or makes me more sleepy. It depends on the amount of work I did during teh day but there are also days when I am sleepy but I have so many things to do.

You are right. Coffee could help us remain awake. The problem is that I don't drink coffee. My previous company permits us to take siestas or a short nap right after lunch. Right now, it does not anymore. Hopefully, I could beat the sleepiness every time it strikes me. (,")

If you only have this after eating (and not at the same time if you did not eat) it's the kind of food you eat.
Probably way too much. The indigestion of a meal takes a lot of energy, so all the other activities of your body are very slow, this makes us fall asleep.

If I eat a big lunch...I get sleepy too. Staying active usually helps me and my job is one that is mixed with activity and desk work so it works out pretty good.
I usually do tend to keep my lunches light. I have seen people that get a ton of energy after they eat but I am not one of those people..lol.

What are you eating for lunch? How much are you eating? What are you drinking throughout the day? Try eating a different kind of lunch. Always have a fruit and/or a salad (nix the dressing) with your meal. Also, instead of soda (or anything sugary), have water with your meals. Make sure you drink enough water throughout the day. I heard somewhere that you're suppose to drink half your body weight (lbs) in water (oz). So if you weigh 150 lbs (150/2 = 75), you would drink 75 oz of water each day. I've also heard that everyone needs to drink 64 oz of water per day, but smaller people shouldn't need so much and larger people will need more. So I go by the first method I mentioned. The easiest way to do that is carry a water bottle on you and vow to drink a certain amount of refills each day. I guarantee that the more water you drink, the healthier you're going to feel, and the more energy you're going to have. Eating fruits and vegetables will give you energy too. Lay off the fatty foods and heavy foods for lunch. Save those for dinner if you need them. I eat light meals/snacks throughout the day and have a hearty meal for dinner. It helps with weight management as well as having more energy. I hope this helps.

hi jhuddith
it happens because lack of rest, you should sleep early in night and don't get up early in the morning.after getting up drink tea and dont drink coffee.take food systematically and limitedly.dont drink coffee or tea after 6 pm.
dont read at overnight.drinking milk at night is good but take it before half an hour of sleeping.
