whenever i feel depress or angry, i want to eat an ice cream. it comforts me and help me get through my emotions. i really don't know why it is but is coldness soothes me and it is so relaxing. i also like drinking a soda whenever i feel tired because it recharge my body. how about you? do you have your comfort foods too?

I don't have any really anymore. I had before after a heavy eczema attack I needed to eat french frites with mayo (note: I don't like mayo). tried dark chocolate too to feel better but don't see any difference (cleans the blood as well).
I think because I changed my food habit (still working on that) I get the vit. and minerals I need. So less lack or need to grab for something.
I don't really like ice cream so would not describe it as feeling better. I have other ways now to feel better or more relaxed.. essence is one of them

It is actually your finding the surrogate avenue to work out you emotional state. It is good that it is working out for you. I wonder whether your frustration will go away with this. This will most certainly calm you down but in the long run, you will have trouble finding your way out of your emotions. There is no point in bottling up your emotions.
So in addition to what you are doing now, which contributes enormously to your calming down, form whatever emotional upheaval you have, you will also need to work out what will prevent that from happening again. When you can do that you will be a very happy person.
As for me, I have this habit of letting out my feelings by talking to someone I love, my wife, it calms me and also gives me a new view of the whole affair.

i agree! while this comfort foods will soothe and makes us feel relax for a little while it is very necessary to prevent such stress and tension from happening again. i know we cannot completely prevent them well atleast we can lessen them. thanks for sharing your thoughts and happy mylotting!

Hi! I also love eating ice cream and maybe its true that the coldness of the ice cream can help soothe our senses and help us relax a bit. i also eat chocolates or eat some finger foods like chips. and coffee too.

Ice cream is really the friend of those who are depressed and also of those who are stressed. It's cold and sweet. It relieves the feeling of unwanted emotions. Its delicious taste will surely gets your focus.

i am not feeling the best. i am still suffering from the effects of bronchitis but went to work anyways (i only work 4 hours per day) and because it has gotten so cold (today its -4 C out and yesterday it was 17C, which is upwards of 70F) anyways, it was nice to come home to some warm and tastey tomato soup which is definitely one of my comfort foods!

Sweets used to be my comfort foods.. I used to binge on cakes, candies, chocolates, cupcakes, fruit shakes, ice creams and the like.. however, when i have got type 1 diabetes i can no longer enjoy these sweet treats.. now whenever i a feeling angry or depressed, i just go out to go shopping.. shopping is one of my stress busters.. it allows me to forget my worries for a while.. in fact, i went shopping last week. i bought 2 real nice blouses at my favorite boutique..

Hello shylade...
how are you?
Well, for me, when I feel upset, stressed, depressed and angry...
I would love to eat everything... LoL...
Not only ice cream :-D
I will like to bite something so often.
I must admit, I always gain lots of weight whenever I got stressed.
No wonder, my body is big. Fortunately, I am tall enough for asian lady :-P

Science explains that a hormone called serotonin is responsible for making you feel good. When you eat something you love, your body produces serotonin. It's good to indulge once in a while but don't let this thing become a habit especially if you are maintaining a desirable weight.

You should find new outlets for your anger or depression. Like going for a jog. I used to be kind of an emotional eater. But I don't really do it anymore. Sometimes I just crave junk food. But I don't attach an emotion to food. Ice cream or junk food isn't REALLY going to make you feel better. I try to call my friends or my sister when I'm down and out, play some guitar, go on a relaxing walk, or do another hobby I enjoy instead of eating because I am sad. It doesn't actually do anything to bring me back up, it actually just brings me further down. Plus I don't like the feeling after I eat junk food - I feel like I'm bloated and I don't like that feeling...

Yes different comfort food in different scenarios like if I am sooo stressed out I eat my favorite food like lasagna, ice cream or even the simple hotdogs it realy relieves me from stress, if I am tired and need to so something or really need to work like today I eat dark chocolates or drink my favorite soda but if I am like sick I eat arozcaldo and soft diet like that but I am also into shopping and walking whenever I am depressed it relieves me looking at beautiful things in the mall and just being on my own whenever I have a long walk.

When i feel depressed I feel the urge to eat something sweet so end up eating some chocolates and putting up some weight.I think it soothes me from the inside and then i feel good after eating the chocolates and for this reason i always keep some chocolates in the fridge.
