Are you over billed on your cell phone?

Canada

I heard rumors that Canada is the most highly billed consumer for cell phones and the internet. I have a friend in Australia that says she only pays $20.00 the most on her cell phone unless she goes over her airtime of course. I also have a friend in Germany, and their average bill is like $10.00 or so... But, here in Canada, we have to pay like $40.00 or more... This is crap!

Don’t you have many providers in Canada? I remember when we had only one provider here in Kenya. We used to pay for calls through our noses. But lately there are five provider’s calls are basically free. In fact providers only get money when through inter

I'm paying $87/month for my cell phone... I use it for work reasons, too, & I go through 2,500 - 3,000 minutes/month on voice calling... I don't really have much need for data on my phone since I have an iPad... For what I use, I don't think I'm really power paying...

It varies by country and carrier here in the US. My hubby was paying nearly $80/mo to have a smart phone he found another carrier and now pays $30 with the only difference being he had to pay for his phone outright and no contract. Plus I think it also depends on the regulations in the country as well. I know when texting was insane with the teenagers a few years back US Congress actually had a bird with the phone companies for charging so much per text when it cost them a fraction of a cent to offer that service.

I think that a lot of people pay far too much for their mobile phone, but they just don't know that they're being overcharged. I currently pay £27 per month for mine, which I know is quite a lot, but I have to have a lot of minutes on my phone and I text a lot for work so it pays to have a decent contract on it. I plan to keep this phone for a long time and I know that I will be able to lower the amount that I'm paying in around a year's time, so I should be able to save a little bit of money that way, but I am just going to have to cope with it for now.
