When talking to someone that is not a grammar Nazi, as long as the sentences are structured so they understand, it's fine. But if you are going to be going to an English speaking school overseas like so many exchange students do at my school, you need to be able to write well. English is supposed to be a very hard language to speak properly and no matter where you go there are variations that make it even harder. I would take the classes to learn the grammar part so you become better at it no matter where you are going to use it. One piece of advise I could give you would be not to use contractions like she's, it's, or anything along those lines. learn to use the words properly first and it will help with your grammar.

You're right, i see all of the american people didn't care all the grammar, if you see their status in facebook or twitter. They didn't use grammar correctly,. So how about make curiculum vitae, they must using a grammar corectly based on oxford dictionary. I think american people will dificult to use it.

Every school requires them to use proper English hen doing school work. There is not a single school that will allow you to get away with "OMG, TGIF!!" in a paper. People use grammar only when it is important, or they are can't correct anything else about something you said. If you are working somewhere and your emails to the boss, or a presentation has broken English as the language, it makes it seem like you are uneducated. When you are typing on facebook or twitter, you are just trying to get a point across in the fastest possible way. I depends on where you use it.

As an Englishman I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't speak another language. I did take French and Latin at school and was pretty hopeless at it, so I admire members here at Mylot who can work in many languages.
I am sure it is the case in most languages that grammer is important to make it clear what you are trying to say. Having said that, I can understand most of what you are trying to say, even though your grammer is bad, because I can 'read between the lines', as we say.
So keep it up! I love to read your posts.

A lot of people may speak slang, but take Louisiana for example. We are so diverse we have languages like Cajun, which may seem like slang to some people, but it is actually french. A native speaker who may use incorrect grammar, probably is not educated very well. I know of adults who can not read, because they were passed on through grade levels without any help. It's sad once you think about it. I have two native languages, Cajun and English. I speak both at my home and when I go back to Louisiana, because it's a way for me to get back in touch with my culture.

yeah you're right, i agree with you'r idea, it will good if we use grammar correctly, for native speaker it seems humiliate to other country that didn't use grammar correct, so that i think why foreign people didn't care about grammar,. it looks strange if we didn't use grammar.
