They say early man could never have imagined what it was like to live in the age we do. Well, I think that 'they' are wrong. How do they know there weren't any 'intelligent' early men, who gave the topic considerable thought and came close to guessing what it's like now? How would you feel if humans 3000 years from now said, "Pfft, those losers from the 21st Century would have been astounded at the tech we have"? "Look at those boring Ipads and Iphones - how could anyone have managed with such crappy technology?" I'd want them to know that we are capable of predicting what they;ll come up with. Maybe they'll see this post and realize that people in the 'early' ages had a clue. So, what do you think will comprise cutting-edge technology 3000 years from now? Or, maybe, what would you like to be available? Each of us has our own concepts and preferences. I, for one, would love to have an Instant Teleportation System. Do you have any idea how much of our lives we spend in travel, even with Lamborghinis and Boeings around? YEARS!! The 'ITS', as I would call it, would shorten the span of travelling time tremendously. What do you think will be invented in the future, or, more personally, what would you like invented then?

I imagine that transportation, as you suggest, will be high on the list of new technologies, as well communication devices. Power generation will have to be a priority, as the oil that we currently depend so heavily on will no longer be available.

Personally, I think a better world would be created by a change in man's thinking rather than a change in his technology. But that would lead me off into a different discussion .... In terms of technology, my greatest wish right now would be getting the technology at my place to have enough power generated to operate my washing machine. Ah yes, that technology already exists, I just can't afford it. Joking aside, I do think power generation is key to the future of us all, not just my laundry. I'd also like to see technology where I could somehow see and interact with my family and friends many miles away more personally. Skype and all these other internet based technologies are great for keeping in touch, but the personal touch is missing.

Thank you, GreenMoo, for seconding me :) !! I should hope that other forms of energy will be uncovered soon, and harnessed in such a manner as to keep nature as pristine as possible (or whatever is left of it). What would you like, for yourself, though, GreenMoo? Depending on your experiences, and interests? Because as we say, 'to each, his own'.

Excellent .. perhaps holography is the answer to your wish?

I have a feeling that we will not have calculator kind of iPhones in the future. People get so lazy with the advancement of technology. So my guess is that the new phones would be either something that can be worn like a wrist watch or they would look like headphones so that they can be worn around ears. Next computers, I think there won't be any keyboards at all. They will not even look like iPads which are said to be replacing laptops by 2015. We already have Siri application on iPhones. I suppose such technology will completely replace keyboards. In short, people will have voice over computers. Siri like technology might also replace keypads on cell phones. All cars will run on electricity or water. As shown in iRobot, people will be scared of driving anything that includes gas. They might even find the whole concept disgusting because of the grease factor. Many systems will operate through computers. The future generation might not even have security guards and soldiers anymore. Right now drones are too much in demand. Scientists are even trying to give them intelligence to decide whether a person needs to be killed. So probably they will see the real "skynet" era.

Hi divineathena, Yes, people do get lazier with improvements in technology. Are iPads really replacing laptops by 2015? That's a bit faster than expected, isn't it? I wonder if there will even be cars by then. Like I mentioned, I'd prefer teleportation. Thank you for your predictions!!

No problem Yep, according to a Yahoo article published a few months ago, iPads will replace laptops. There won't be any iPods anymore either. Their place will be taken over by iPhones. The funny thing is that by 2015, there will be more robots than soldiers fighting in the wars. Majority of the countries are now building them. I have been also wondering whether the future generation people will have cars. Teleportation sounds more convenient. As far as I know, it is possible for it come in the future.

WHOA!!!! I knew that all those things would happen in the future, but to happen by 2015? That's just amazing!!

3,000 years from now... hm. IF the human race is still in existence (and that's a big "IF"), we will probably be nothing but globs of fat with little finger extensions as we push buttons to bring us food or drink or clothing or whatever we might "need." Our technology will have trapped us completely so that we never see another human being in reality, only through a projected image (can't think of the word I want to use.). We will have eyes, but our ears will have almost disappeared, only being small holes that we sometimes plug audio sensors into. Our homes will be little more than nests because we won't need anything else. Robots will do what cleaning is necessary. We will never go outside for anything. BUT... what would I like to see "invented"? A better world. People who can talk face to face, even with technology in the way. Open, green spaces where people can walk and talk without fear of each other. I'm not sure technology can do that.

I thought of that too, but I always say it's better to be optimistic, and moreover if I assumed humans were extinct then, this post would be unnecessary. That is some great imagination!! You're probably right or close to it. Yes, I would like that too. But that is as applicable to the present as to the future. Thanks for your opinion!!

I think that in the future we will probably have thinner yet wider phones, if even that. Our computers would be micro chips we carry around in our pockets and go to terminals to stick in and use as we please. I think our jobs would all be more computerized. Even as a cashier we'd probably sit at home and "check" the people out whilst they shop online. Deliveries would be faster if we had Instant Teleportation. I think our cooking instruments would make our food faster, and I imagine we'd have more packaged foods. I don't really look forward to a tomorrow like that. I'd rather technology be more broadened in the agricultural aspect to help farmer's, but not to harm the environment or us. What I would like to see is less factories and more nature.

I would like to live as close to nature as possible too, but it is quite fun to imagine what people CAN invent, and hence this post. Secondly, they CANNOT say that we were ignorant and had no idea what could happen then, if they ever see our posts on these topics!! Thirdly, as peavey said above, humans may even be extinct then. Then this discussion would have been an exercise in futility but still FUN. Thank you for the comment!

Hi Vvance, As far as computers go, I think they will focus more on "learning computers", like the "neural-net" CPUs that the Terminators have in the movie. There has been research on that front, but human thinking is very hard to duplicate, but I think they will achieve some sort of computer that can learn to understand what the user wants. I think they can make the physical devices smaller, but a limit will be reached because our hands are still the same size. I like typing on a keyboard, it's frustrating trying to text on a phone, and I refuse to use that text shorthand, I did't spend all those years in literature and grammar to say "before" as "b4", that's a bingo call. I have read a few articles that there is research in teleportation "beaming" objects. You can already beam electrons as signals, and recompose the data from the signal, but as far as de-constructing and re-constructing on a molecular level, that's going to be hard, especially with a living creature. But if you think about it, much of our progress has to do with the original discovery of the electromagnetic spectrum. In the USA electricity is clocked at 60Hz, LCD monitors generally clock at 60Hz which is the minimum rate where a human won't notice flicker. So that clock speed is easy to attain. Marconi discovered radio waves, which are EM waves; our cordless phones and wireless modems operate at a higher frequency, but they are EM none the less. And we know that the EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) generated by a nuclear explosion will disrupt anything that uses EM in the blast radius. The future will definitely be interesting.

Hi there, jjzone, Thanks for the insight! Artificial Intelligence is definitely something that we will see a lot of, soon. And, by the way, I love the Terminator movies too! True, the electromagnetic devices are very much essential to human life now, but imagine if they found another source of energy !! How would that affect things? Yep, it sure will! And it feels great to take a shot at forecasting what it will be like.

Oh I definitely think there will be breakthroughs in new energy technology, and that will take science and discovery in a whole new direction. I'm sure something similar happened when the Electromagnetic Spectrum was defined. Imagine a time when scientists thought that the only things on the spectrum were visible light, and electricity. Then radio waves were discovered, as well as infra-red and ultraviolet light. Then X-ray was discovered and added, as well as gamma rays. We know that on the EM spectrum, visible light is in the energy range of 1.6 to 3.4 eV (electron Volts). But if we accelerate a light photon to 1.02 MeV (Million electron-Volts) pair production occurs, where matter is actually created. Many times scientists create solutions in search of a problem. One such recent discovery is Bluetooth. It was originally thought of as a good way to connect peripheral devices wirelessly to a computer, and some devices do well with this. But the use Bluetooth is most noted for is those headsets we connect to our cell phones with. So the technology was thought of for one area, but found a home in the other. Innovation will continue, and like you said, future generation will look at our tablets pretty much the same way we look at black and white CRT televisions with analog "over the air" signals. Compared to our flat screen HDTVs with a cable or satellite signal, those old TVs are quite archaic.

Haha, yes, 'archaic' sounds about right. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Your topics seems so odd and deep but very realistic for me. Personally, I hope people in the future can invent spaceships that can travel to other planets and galaxy for only few minutes of travel time. And I hope people can live longer because they will discover more vaccines and cures for all life threatening diseases such as cancers.

Hey Krisiane, I wanted to say this in the comment about internal voices but here goes: Nice talking to you again! Haven't seen you around in a while. I agree with you - travelling takes up a lot of time, and should be more efficient to save time.

This speech is to be seen. Especially inherently subject to of teleportation. Albert Einstein said that "anything that has mass can travel at the speed of light" and also "You can not exceed the speed of light." I certainly do not be surprised if in 3000 years from now this theory half a century ago, could be broken. I, however, changing the subject, I support the technology, if you judge the new digital systems a "crap", means, regression, not progress! I'm not of course be argued that the ancestors of the stone age were ignorant. Indeed, in certain respects at times I would say the most intelligent of the contemporary human being.

I think 3000 years from now our lifes will be more easy, if we want somethings just says and it will be there, but I'm affraid the world will be like in the movie, the robot take over the world or there are dangerous viruses that make human become mutant,. That my imagination ^_^
