give or not to give?

Is it right to give money to kids begging in the streets? I am living in the Phils where you can see poor children asking for any penny. Will it help them or will just cause them not to work hard anymore but depend on the money you gave to them. What possibly is the effect of this towards the children and to the society?

"Give a man a fish and you have feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." an inspiration said by Lao tzu. It is not wrong to give, but for me the quote is true because if we are able to teach those kids to study hard first rather than to give them what they beg, then probably there's their chance to live a normal life without asking any penny from other people. Sometimes, we should not tolerate those beggars, because most of them were abusive.

I have asked myself this same question over and over again whenever I come across someone in that situation. In my preference, I have chosen to actually talk to them, identifying what issues they may have and how I could be of use (besides giving money). Socially, these people could become dependent on others giving them money and feel there is no need for dependency. Others, might actually use that money to further themselves and lif themselves from their current situation. Either way, I feel that if you are of the mind to offer money, you should stop and think of any other resources or contacts you have that might benefit this person instead. Consider this proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

I give coins to kids begging as long as I have extra money as I feel this could ease their hunger even for just sometime. I don't give f course to those whom I feel don't deserve to be given. I don't give however big amounts. Good if the government is doing something for them already.

Sometimes i gave money to kids begging on me but immediately telling them to go home and let their parents do jobs for them. But honestly,that wouldn't be tolerated since it would just make them dependent and lazy.. YES, if their parents see that as an easy job,then they will forever push their children to beg in the streets,thus, putting them in great danger.
