What measures do you take to save the earth?

A few years ago when I joined an educational tour to Taiwan, I was really amazed by how much the Taiwanese people love their environment. They asked us to reuse our bottles and to segregate biodegradable materials from non-biodegradable ones. In convenience stores, we were encouraged to bring our own bags where we could store our purchased items. Otherwise, we would have to pay for plastic bags.
When I got home, I try to think of ways to take care of the earth. I bought an eco-friendly netbook. I also try to reuse the plastic bags/bottles as much as possible. These may not be much, but these are the only ways I can think of.
How about you? What are the steps you take to save the earth?

I am a person who pays attention to the environmental issues. For example, if I go out, most of the time I will bring a bottle of water so that I don't have to buy the water outside and it can create lots of plastic waste in a long term. I double print the paper. And I will keep the waste paper and newspaper and then recycle it. I will also donate the clothes to others. I don't waste the food. I hope it will give my son a good example so that he will learn how to protect our earth.
I love China

It's a great idea to bring your own water so that you won't need to buy bottled water when you get thirsty. Plus, it will help you save money! I also use the unwritten side of the paper. My only problem with this is sometimes, I don't have enough space to store the recycled paper.
I'm guilty of wasting food. Everyone in my family don't eat much, and a lot of our food goes bad. I'm trying to remedy this by buying less in the grocery and rearranging my pantry in a way that would make everything visible (so I wouldn't forget how much food I've got at home). Thanks for your response.:)

Hi vovandat1988. It's good to know that you're limiting your use of plastic bags and bottles. It's not easy to do so in my country. A lot of people here love to collect plastic bags. We use it as garbage bags. We also use plastic bags to store meat (and other food items that are too gross to put inside an eco bag) when we go to the market.
Thanks for your response.:)

Your main topic here is not so much saving the earth but cutting out waste. I am all for cutting out waste but I am of the minority opinion that we humans have little long term influence on the time scale of the earth. The earth is so much bigger than we humans are and there are many other species that are many times bigger than we are and their numbers fluctuate over time without any reference to us.
We just hate to believe we are not important.

I think cutting out waste is one way of saving the earth. Since cutting out waste is the only means that I'm aware of, I started this discussion to get some ideas from fellow myLotters.
I'm not really sure if our actions have little effect on earth. I just think that since we keep on multiplying, whatever the majority of people is doing, it will have some impact on our environment. Perhaps thousands of years ago, when earth's inhabitants aren't as many as today, how they make use of the resources doesn't matter much.
Thanks for your response.:)

I'm not sure if what I'm doing is enough. But I guess it won't hurt if we try.:) Thanks for your response, maezee.

Saving the earth is also my daily concern. I love the earth because it is filled with glorious manifestation of God's power. I love the One who created it so I love it. However, saving it must really be a concern of everyone. Well, it is good to see individuals doing their simple ways to really contribute to this task. I do lessen using plastic things including disposables and throwing them. I really do reuse them. I also conserve electricity and water by using glass when brushing and washing.
Planting trees can also help at least to replace those trees taken by other fellows from the forest. And sharing the idea of saving the earth to others will definitely help, too.
God bless everyone who is concern to saving the earth. Try another idea from below.

I wish there will also be a project here called tree planting on the mountain. I had enjoyed this activity when I was still a student. It is good to know that there are housewives who had initiated tree planting. Hope to see some to initiate the same in our country. For the meantime, let us be of good cheer because the earth still fine to live in.

I love the earth too because it's God's creation. I think taking care of the earth is one way of showing our love to God.
I've seen in a TV show that there's this mountain in Japan that had become bald. Several Japanese housewives worked together in order to restore the forest by planting trees. I forgot the details, but probably because of the soil, it was difficult to plant trees. After several trial and errors, they succeeded. The forest is really beautiful now. I couldn't believe that it used to be a bald mountain.
Thanks for your response.:)

I am Vegan so I'm not responsible for the thousands of miles of forests they burn and take down to create farms, not even talking about animal suffering.
But yes I recycle, I buy as much recycle stuff as I can , wish all was recycled! lol, If I was like millionaire I would love to change my house to a green eco home.
Also when I see a stupid's person's trash (found recently in a lake and a beach) I take them and throw away. I curse the person but I mind cleaning up, I consider it like the volunteer thing for the day . Well and specially it won't go to kill fishes, or in that lake, the ducks and frogs.

Wow, what you've been doing is really amazing. I don't litter and I hate seeing people littering. One time, I saw a man inside a public transport eating peanuts. As he ate, he threw the shells to the streets. I doubt if he would do that inside his own house. Thanks for your response.:)
