Pressure similar to these keep people or even families from being what they are. e.g. if a family had children, it should not matter if they are sons or they are daughters. 
What do you think?

                    Not only is this extremely sad in and of itself but the fact that the country's leaders - the people who COULD actually change the way their culture sees these things - knuckle under and do it is even worse.
