Wife beating husband?

In life, i have always thought that two people coming together to be husband and wife, and stay together in one room , on one bed , under one blankent should have build alot of trust to each other. However it has always shocked me and people that it reaches a time and this trust is lost . Till we hear of separation, divorce , conflicts and husband beating . You know it sounds funny but what might be the problem?
