As some of you know, I travel a lot. I have driven to Pennsylvania from Texas, from Texas to Virginia, and to Missouri, I love roadtrips. I travel alone, all but a few of my trips have been driving. I have heard from some of my friends, 'I wish I could do that', when I ask them what, they tell me, driving across country like you do! They have barely been out of the city they live in! I make sure my vehicle is road ready, pack, and go. I watch where I stop along the way, usually large gas stations, well lit hotels and well known chains, as well as the welcome centers as you enter each state, always clean and nice to stop there. So, my question is, do you travel alone, or wish you could? Do you let your wife, girlfriend, etc go on long roadtrips alone? Happy travels!

I am on a trip at the moment with my 4 year old disabled son and my 2 year old daughter. We had a wonderful time visiting a dear friend in Chile. Now we are back in Argentina looking around an old town. Distances are long here. It took 17 hours on a bus to get here. In my younger days I traveled alone very happily indeed with my backpack. It is easier to travel alone than with someone in a wheelchair. Though my son loves to travel. I have to carry lots of luggage. I felt safe traveling alone and still do with my kids.

I love to travel but i husband put an end to that :( so im not so happy about that. I personally dont know how u can do it with the price of gas being so high..just wundering. :) In my state of Texas im looking for someone to go on a road trip with. When my girls are older that is. I personally would like to travel and blog about my travels and spend every summer doing that for the rest of my life..however long or short that may be! Ill just leave my husband here because he does not like to travel by car anywhere. he gives me heck when i drag him along to visit family or friends. sometimes he nags me to no end about draggin him with me. over the years tho i have learned to 'block' him out of my head! believe me, its come in handy!! when i get my income tax im going to fallow my friend to Arizona and spend a week or two with her and I am sooo excited. i will share my experience with MyLott! and im going to make a blog out of it as well!

I usually save up for my trips, several months in advance. I also check gasbuddy.com and see where the better gas prices are along the route, usually anywhere east of Texas has cheaper gas, go figure lol. I also like using gasbuddy because you can use their trip calculator, which gives a pretty close idea of how much your trip will cost.

I have traveled alone, and I really don't mind it, tho I have to say that if someone is with me, I want them to talk to me. My mom sold her condo in Colorado and needed to stay an extra couple of days to finish off the sale. She needed to get her car back to Texas and I had to go back to work the day after she needed to sign the paperwork on the sale. Its really a two day drive, unless you are one of those who will do a full day (18-20 hours) driving and that is NOT my mom! I drove the car back and was perfectly happy doing it. Only disappointing thing was when I saw a herd of pronghorn antelope walking in a field beside the road and didn't have anyone to share it with! Then, in 1998, when mom sold her house in Texas and her condo wasn't going to be ready for a couple of months, she went up to stay with my brother in Ft. Collin's CO. I don't remember why she didn't take her car, but she had it parked at a friend's in town, and I drove up picked her up. Well, actually, I met my brother, his girlfriend and mom just inside CO, they drove down to meet me at the Welcome Center in Trinidad.

Driving to the East coast, I normally drive it in 2 1/2 days, I can stop when I want where I want. I do normally drive at least 10 - 12 hours the first day of the trip, then split the rest into day and half. I have driven 16 hours, but that is not my norm lol. I also watch the weather for the days I plan on going, it is a little nerve wrecking driving long distances in rain.

Yes, I've done a lot of traveling also, I'm the one that everybody either asks me to go with them, or they pay me to drive them across country on long trips ! A lot of my friends and relatives are not used to traveling far, nor alone, and they all know that I do! They are also not used to driving in big cities, and they know that I have traveled in many, many, large cities, in a car , and in a truck! So I keep them from getting lost!

That's great that you can do that for them. Driving through big cities never bothered me, just gotta go with the flow! lol

Before I met my husband I often travelled alone. Today we usually travel together, and I love travelling with my husband, but I also enjoyed the trips where I travelled alone. I travelled around in Estonia alone. I spent two weeks there and I visited lots of different places. I also visited Hungary, Italy and a couple of other places alone, and I enjoyed those trip, too. Of course I had to think about my safety when I was travellong alone as a woman. I picked large hotels and places where there were lots of other people and I didn't go out alone late at night. Sometimes I felt a little lonely, but most of the time I enjoyed myself and I visited many interesting places on my own.

Traveling is one of my hobby, I used to travel alone since age 14 visiting my uncle at other state, I didn't drive of course but took bus. Since then I travel a lot by myself to Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and about 40 states at US. I really want to visit all states one day but I don't think I can travel by myself anymore because I have family now and I think having them (my husband and my baby girl) with me will make the traveling much more fun. I can't wait. Happy travels to you too!

It is fun to travel with family, and when you little girl gets a little older it is so fun to see things through their eyes.

wow that is really interesting. i travel a lot but not as far as you do hehehe. but i don't enjoy it since i get car sick. i only enjoy it when i am with my boyfriend since he takes very good care of me when i get car sick. my boyfriend doesn't like it when i travel alone, like when i go to another city to process my papers. he is always worried because he is far from me most of the time. but i would love to travel like that when i get there to the states soon but not alone okay? hehehe only when i am with him

I would just like to be able to travel more. I never get to go anywhere :). I wouldn't like to travel by myself. I would like to have a friend or family member go with me. My husband wouldn't let me travel by myself. I really would get lost anyway. I'm not good with directions at all. I hope though in the future that we can travel more often. I'm also hoping that with time I will be able to save money so that at least once a year we can do something. I'm glad that you are able to travel a lot. It would be fun to go all over the USA.

Hello palonghorn. I don't see any problem travelling alone. We don't have our own car but I do like long driving. I drive for my parents (but that's another story). I do travel taking public transport when I can. It's my alone time. A time for myself to relax and just enjoy being alone. :) I think it's exciting!

I don't have the luxury of having my own car to go where ever I want, when I want. However; I do travel alone either by bus or train all the way from Ontario Canada, to West Texas a lot! I love traveling down South, and had a few close calls, but if you're smart about your travels, you will be fine!
