I have been thinking for awhile now and I can not figure out why society decided that Girls should have long hair and guys should have short hair. To me it makes no sense why people make a big deal about either girls with short hair or guys with long hair. To me who really cares what people do with their hair, I think it is stupid how people make such a big deal about what people look like.
What do you think, should people have how ever long hair as they want or should they have to do what society does so that they can fit in?

I have bald hair, a choice which i made just months ago, lol! I was then a little bit embarrassed as to what people would think and say, but i guess i would only get depressed and irritated and just don't give attention to them. The important thing is i made a choice and i could stand up to it.

So far, so good, i feel like Mike or Kobe maybe, lol! but more often then enough there is a familiarity with Yul Bryner, do you know him? My wife really thinks I look "really sexy" and that is enough of a compliment to be sport a bald-look. Right now, getting used to it as I am getting more respect.

Who says society decided that? It depends on where you live.
In my country are plenty of boys/men with long hair. So has my son. The first time we cut his hair a bit he was 3 years old, he always had a ponytail.
Personally I like long hair no matter if it's a boy or girl so we all have long hair.
I don't like short hair with women it mostly doesn't look very female but that is personal taste.
The only thing I don't like is dirty long badly treated/combed hair. But if it comes to that it doesn't matter if the hair is short or long.
Ages ago (and also in many cultures) it's (still) normal for men to have long hair. I think if you have nice hair it's like jewelry.
But I do notice(d) too that many hairdressers love to cut long hair short. Also many are not even able to wash, comb or treat it probably so they try to force you to cut it of. I think it's a bad thing. It's also proved that many people are sitting at the hairdresser full of stress.
I think you are stupid if you cut your hair just to fit in society. Why should you and what is your next step to fit in? If society is not accepting you the way you are they also won't accept you if you cut your hair for that reason. They will always come up with a new demand.

Hi,MATT69AC~
Well,I'm a girl and I'd had short hairs for the first 20 years of my life. Nothing wrong with that. I can clean my hair more easily and don't need to constantly worry about taking care of it. Although right now I'm keeping my long hair. Just want that for a change. Working out okay for me right now. Trying to get a new hairstyle. But I don't know. I'm a lazy girl and I have a feeling that I won't like taking care of it all the time.
I think here, the society is more okay with girls with short hair than guys with long hair. We've seen some guys like that. But the prejudice still exists. For us,the guys with long hairs are either ruffians or artists. And most parents don't want their daughters to marry to these guys. As to girls, seems more guys like long-hair girls than short-hair ones.
Well,I think for your question,it depends on the person. If they are okay with what people think about them and just wanna be who they are, they won't care what hairstyle they have. But to some who care about people's views, they would cut or grow their hair just to fit in. It's their own choices after all,to defy or to follow.
Have a nice day~

Hair is just hair, no one should judge a person because of her/his hairstyle. I am a man and I personally have tried having a long hair and an even having a semi-bald haircut. However, I prefer women with long hair :) but I have no problem with women with short hair.

Yeah, people tend to imagine girls with long hair and men with short. It is not that we dont find people with different length, however, the general trend/thinking is as you mentioned. Going back, even our ancestors followed the same trend. Anyways, I defer from you when you say should people have.....or should they have to do...". I am sure you would agree, people have gone ahead and have not cared about the society about the same. we do find girls with short hair very regularly and we have so many men with long hair. They did not seek permission from anyone about the same.

I think people should wear whatever hair they desire, regardless of gender and society.

It depends because I think that some people look better with long hair and I think that some people look better with short hair, it just all depends on the person. I have long hair, and I love my long hair, and I think that I look good with my long hair, and I never want to back to having short hair. Again, it all depends on the person.

Well, this question has to come in several parts. When it comes to Western society, long hair for women; and short hair for men stems from the Bible, where in the Old Testament, it is made clear God approves of long hair for women, but not for men. Yet, this has not been observed throughout history. Until comparatively recently, European men sported relatively long hair, and at various stages, very long hair. As I see it - but I may be wrong - truly short hair for men only became effectively "compuslory" for men after the First World War. And of course lasted until the '60s, when long hair for men became once again widespread, although of course, it had existed up until then...for example among certain Bohemians, such as the Existentialists; and Beatniks and so on. During the '60s, long hair for men was certainly a big deal, and to sport long hair more or less a revolutionary statement. Thence to not have long hair when you wanted it certainly very painful...as it identified a person as "straight". I'd say this situation persisted until the early '70s, when it could be said long hair for men started becoming mainstream. So you had middle aged guys with long hair. So much so that when Punk arrived, it was short hair that was radical. By the '80s, I'd say long hair was no longer a big deal...some men wore it long...others short. Today, short hair is more or less universally fashionable, and anyone who wears it long is perhaps making a statement about being into Rock music; or being artistic, or whatever. But I wouldn't say long hair is in any way revolutionary, as it was in the '60s. However, when it comes to getting certain jobs, it could be said that short hair is preferable,as it looks neater, cleaner and so on...and of course less unconventional than long. I myself wear my hair both long and short, although it ahs to eb said that whenever it's long it's for no more revolutionary reason than I haven't got around to getting it cut for a while. But I prefer my hair short I have to say.

It sure doesn't make sense, why make such a big deal about a girl or boy hair, let each of them decide for himself/herself, after all, neither this girl nor boy is your property or even is your son and daughter, they can do whatever they want with their hairs. These people must have too much free time in their hand and don't know what to do with it. I am just fortunate i don't have to live in that society with all these nosey and good for nothing people around me. Tell them to go suck your thumb and fly kite.

Its totally illogical. People wiser now. Men and women can do whatever they want. Here, now that its summer, and the air is kinda hot, ladies are running to the salon to cut their hair short. Its kinda trend right now. A lot of celebrities has cut their hair short and they look good in it.

First of all who told people that the man should be with short hair and the girls with a long hair? But that's is the society and it's peoples choices what they will decide to do with their hair.
About the society "most" people think that man should be with short hair and girls with long hair. But that's is simply wrong for me.I don't know what other people will say about this comment, maybe they will argue that i'm wrong or i'm right.
People think that guys with short hair look better and girls with long hair looks better for the society.
I once had a long hair and no one complained about it, then i decided to cut it short but no one made fun of my hair even with long or short hair.It deepens on the peoples tastes and what they will judge by their own thinking.

I think, what makes you feel more comfortable would just be right. It doesn't have to agree with what the society calls for. I am a woman who feels more relaxed by sporting a very short hair especially that summer is already here. So, I don't think I wouldn't "fit in" just because I made this preference. My brother actually has long hair and I also don't find anything bad about it. In fact, he looks much better as compared to having a short one. I don't think it's a society thing, but more of a personal inclination.
