My Wisdom Teeth Surgery Experience

So yesterday at age twenty-five, I finally gave in and had my wisdom teeth taken out. this comes after hearing dentists for several years suggest I do so. What finally made me give in was this previous Friday I went to a dentist and found out that the wisdom tooth on my lower right side (which had come in impacted and at an angle) had caused the tooth next to it to form a cavity. Apparently the way it was angled caused food to get trapped and whatnot. More importantly, the cavity was getting close to the nerve and my dentist couldn't fill it due to the wisdom tooth.
So my choices were having my wisdom teeth out or the very good possibility of having to have a root canal.
It turns out I had nothing to be nervous about. My oral surgeon used the IV sedation where one of the side effects is partial to full memory loss.
I can remember the IV being put in and the table lowering back. Suddenly I'm looking at the surgeon working on my lower left wisdom tooth and then bam!...it's all over with all four of my wisdom teeth gone.
At this point, a morning after, the bleeding has stopped but my lower right jaw is still sore. But that's normal I suppose.
So here's my question. Anyone here still have theirs? How was it for you when you had yours out, if you've had them out yet.

You are brave! Congrats on having your wisdom teeth removed, now they won't cause you problems any more.
I still have mine, 3 have grown out, and two of them are filled - I never heard about filling wisdom teeth until my dentis came up with the idea, because they are not in a bad position. I didn't have problems with them yet.

Thanks! But I will be honest in saying I was pretty nervous about having it done! That's one thing I am definitely glad to have behind me and to never have to repeat ever again. I'm glad you haven't had a problem with them yet though.

Hi DarthJustice, Great discussion topic! I am glad to hear your extraction went well. I removed my wisdom fairly early when I was about 16 years old. I was put down to sleep when the dentist surgeon removed my four wisdom teeth. It took them approximately 45 minutes to remove my teeth. After I woke, my face was numb and my teeth was bleeding for a few days. Luckily it was Spring break at that time and I didn't have school. My teeth heeled within the week and I am glad I removed them cause they were impacted in my mouth now I have space. :)

At this point, the bleeding more or less has stopped. At least to the point I need gauze and everything. It still oozes a little blood but I hear that's normal. Pretty much the soreness and some minor swelling around my gums on my jaw (which I hear wisdom teeth on your jaw, especially impacted, are a little harder to remove than the top ones).
Glad it went okay for you too!
