If you want to try I suggest ubuntu in live cd. You could try without install it.

Not recently. My Linux usage slowed down when Mandrake became Mandriva. My fave was Gentoo.

I also use ubuntu (Xubuntu actually), and have been for a few months now. I got rid of my Windows partition and never looked back. At the rate that ubuntu is going, I think a lot of people will switch to linux rather than upgrading to Vista.
