smells and memories

Today i went to a friends house and after a few coffee's i had to use his bathroom, washing my hands i noticed that he had this soap that my nanna used to have back in the 60's when we were little, that smell always triggers so many lovely memories of her, she was such a lovely soul and always made us very happy, she was very kind and gentle and always had time for us, after washing with this soap, i found myself smelling my hands and each time i did this another little memory popped into my mind, i didn't even think this soap existed any more, so having that smell on my skin was wonderful because she is no longer with us any more, but the memories still are, what smell triggers memories for you?

Oranges. When I smell them I remember when I was little and my father use to peel them for me and placed the pieces on the table for me to eat. It's a happy memory and it makes eating oranges more enjoyable.

There is a perfume that when I smell it , it reminds me of my grandma. She lived in Germany but I visited her a few times over the years and she came to Canada a couple times, so I got to know her a little. I loved her perfume and now when I smell it , I can't help but think of her. She is no longer with us but I bet she still wears that perfume in heaven.

I haven't had a smell jolt me, but I have seen a painting that jolted me. I was at a flea market a few years ago and saw a painting there for sale that I had forgotten. It was exactly like one that had been hanging in the house I was raised in for as long as I had been there. I had never thought about the painting in particular but when I seen it...a ton of stuff came back. It was nice.

Hi Jen, there are a few paintings that remind me of things, particularly the crying boy, i never really liked it to be honest, but a lot of people had them, and i have seen them in the flea markets, my nanna used to have one and he always looked so sad, i used to ask her why he was crying and she used to tell me that he'd lost his bike...LOL...
