Time for Dinner

So what is the earliest you ever eat dinner? I'm sitting here again and my family wants to eat by 3:30 or even slightly earlier. That leaves the whole night afterwards open for being hungry again (and then people wonder why I eat too many snacks at night), I don't understand why they like eating so early. I would think 5 p.m. would be the ultimate time for it but they are the boss here, as always.

Dinner at 3:30?!? Wow, that's even earlier than most "early bird specials" that seem to start from 4:00 Why on earth do they want to eat so early? Do they start their days earlier than "average"? I remember my father used to start work at 7AM and he'd get home about 4:30PM. He always expected my mom to have dinner on the table or almost ready when he got in the door. My sister and I hated it because we weren't even hungry yet but, because he was hungry after work, we ALL had to eat. My father wouldn't tolerate anyone not being seated at the same dinner table so we were bound by his schedule.
I'm the opposite now... I prefer to eat around 7PM and it works fine for my daughters because they are both in post-secondary studies and there are nights they don't get home until about that time. It allows us to sit and eat together and I really like that.

Ha, yes. It is quite early. There is no talking to her either, once she makes up her mind. I will tell her that about the early bird specials that start at 4, haha, I never thought of that one. She does start her day earlier than most and for what I'm not sure. She is up like 3:30 and then her naps start at about 5 ish at night and she sleeps til maybe 8 p.m. and watches an hour maybe of TV and falls asleep again. This early dinner thing has been going on a while though. I'm not sure if that's why her blood sugar is wacko or not, but I find it is just annoying.

Awwww ok, I sort of get it now As people age, they often sleep much less so your mother is running on an earlier schedule than a lot of people. If she has problems with her blood sugar, I'm surprised she isn't eating several small meals each day to stay regulated. Many people I know have about 6 small meals rather than the 3 meals per day that "most" people would eat. Maybe she can come to an understanding that her food needs are different to others in the family now? Does she refuse to eat unless everyone else eats with her?

That's early! In my family that time is for afternoon snack. It helps fill in the hunger for just a while. Then we have dinner at around 6pm. I don't usually eat anything else after dinner, even if I sleep at around 12 midnight. It's hard to resist but I have to. Haha!

I hear ya, I'm glad it is not only me who thinks this. Most of my friends agree it is early. Nothing can change her mind though. I'm sure when she orders out, people know her by the early birder customer, or something to that nature, LOL. If I eat at 6 p.m. then I won't have any snack, maybe just an apple if that.

Wow!! Have your dinner at 3:30???
That is a few hours after you have your lunch! Here we can have about meals anytime we want as we don't need everyone to sit and dine together. Usually my mom and I have our dinner at 6:30 or 7:00 pm. If I feel hungry after that I will have light snack with me. I know very well that eating right before sleep is bad so I think 6:30 is fine.I think it depends on what time we sleep. You eat early if you get to your bed early~(^^)

Absolutely correct! You may have your meals anytime you want. You got no choice right since mom control the meals time. Skip lunch and have your meals at 3:30 is a good idea but make sure you get something for yourself at night. Otherwise I am afraid you will get starved~(^^)

3:30 for dinner, that's very early, unless you go to sleep not later than 8 p.m. or so... I can't imagine that I wouldn't be hungry at night after that, I guess I would eat snacks too.
For me the earliest I have dinner is between 5-6 p.m. I have it between 6-8 normally, and it's usually something light, but at least doesn't leave me hungry at night.

I will sometimes eat at other times if the family isn't eating together but my dad has even told her several many times he was not hungry yet at the time she wants to eat. She does everything so different I'll tell you. One of a kind, LOL. She takes naps from about 5 til 8, and if she doesn't fall asleep again by 8ish again after taking her blood sugar she will stay up maybe an hour to watch TV with my brother at least. So old already, at 72. :(

I have been trying to compromise with eating some fruit and/or yogurt ( Greek, yummy!) in between and it is helping me, this past few days anyways. I made dinner tonight so I tried to make it more towards the 4 p.m. time, which is fine with them if I'm making it, LOL.

Yes, I love it and it has more protein in it than other kinds of yogurt. It feels much thicker to me, as well. I get tired of eating the same kinds of foods year after year and this is a nice change up for me. I can't really eat raisins but i do love them. Yes it does have the same consistancy as sour cream.

Wow that's early. But the earlier the better so whenever one wants to have an early rest in preparation for the next day, she or he can go to bed early. But for me, the earliest was 5:00 and I woke up at 12 and felt so hungry. I just drink a glass of milk and slept again.

I wish i could go to bed earlier for the net day sometimes but unless I'm staying at someone else's house for the night it isn't possible here either, cause the 44 yr old single brother has to have the TV on every single night watching it with his momma as if he were either the hubby or the lil kid. I'm not sure why he doesn't live elsewhere except he doesn't have a high paying job. :(

3:30 is too early to eat dinner heheh sometimes i would even have brunch (breakfast and lunch)at that time - yeah i know it's bad right? i need to change that habit.
we usually eat dinner around 6 - 7:00 in the evening. well that is good of you to be eating snacks at night, since you eat dinner so early. you would really get so hungry by the time the night comes.

hahahaha. If it were me then, I wouldn't be able to call it a dinner at all. That time is for my afternoon's snack! hehehe. But I guess, it that is your situation, then you don;t have much of a choice. Just tell them that what you're eating is your midnight snacks since your dinner is so early! LOL

Having a dinner for 3:30 is so early. It's a snack time for me and my family. We usually eat dinner together around 7pm.As far as I remember, our earliest dinner would be 5:30pm -6pm when there was a blackout when I was a kid.Sometimes, 3:30 is my lunch especially when I am busy having my duty in the hospital.Dinner dutring that time will make you hungry again in the evening.

Yeah, I think 5 pm should be the earliest in order not to get hungry the whole night. If you eat your dinner at 3:30 pm, your stomach is already crouching at 9 pm.

Yes and thats is what I usually do too. I try to eat as light as possible so as not to gain more weight back though. Last night I only ate some yogurt and an apple but wanted something else before I went to bed again, only my will power held off thank goodness.
