Hi friends and Lotters Last evening my wife called up to inform she will not be visiting me this weekend (for those who arent aware, she is out of town and now works in a different city). I was quite upset as this was the 3rd week in a row that this happened. We were near to start a fight but then I felt I should not(good hubby you see) To change the sad topi I changed to MyLot and soon she was telling me - myLot seems to be my love affair.... Hmmm... Jealousy, I guess. I was about to ask her "I smell something Burning" but.... Sniff... Sniff... Hey, this burning smell was for real... Heck, it was my dinner on the stove ... I rushed to the kitchen only to find that my dinner was almost charred! Now, please spare me for the discussions between me and my wife... It was a needed call as I rarely get calls from her... But for the discussions' sake - has any phone call got you so involved that you almost forgot the thing at hand only to realize later Cheers, theSids

Oh Bhai! I'm so sorry Bahu can't come visit. Write me if you need to talk. To answer your question, yes I have forgotten to get my clothes out of the washer Or to empty the dishwasher ! But it wasn't because I was on the phone, no! It was because I found a good show to watch on t.v. If I don't put on the timer to remind me... I Will forget.

hi behen You remind me of my mom here... when she was a regular cook at home, she would remain glued to her soaps on tele and would ask one of us (me or younger brother) to turn off the stove or anything that she was doing. However at times she did this on her own when they would air the adverts in between. Today, she has got accustomed to watching more than one soap at a time and you might not believe she can handle 6-7 soaps at a time. However, she doesnt do much of cooking these days.

Way to go mom! Tell her I'm impressed. Back in the 80's I Had two set of soaps on two channels. From 12pm til 4pm I had soaps to see and then I had nighttime I had a few more.

I cut our talk and told her about it. But then she txted me and said that she was disappointed with me 'cause she is not yet finished with her story,oh my! Hey buddy, just stay being a good hubby to your wife. You know sometimes,we can't help but to feel jealous over anything if our hubbies are not with us. Take care!

Hi mtr The Senior was quite understanding as many a times these seniors have a lot of ego with them (maybe the position demands it too) but I must say you have a good smell power... if I had something similar may be it would have saved me some of my food last night I can very well understand what you mean we can't help but to feel jealous over anything if our hubbies are not with us. I too have some idea since yesterday

Dear Sidhu, Then what you ate in dinner, you made food again, so sad to hear. I think you were upset with the news and forgot about the cooking part. If a calls comes in mobile I can still monitor the cooking too while talking, but if the call is on landline then it is not possible. in that case before picking the call, I do necessary steps in kitchen. If my hubby is there then he will pick the call. I am sure if I go any other work in between cooking, definitely something happen badly. Even if the flame is low milk will flow out for sure, I am that much lucky person. It is ok if the milk gone but cleaning the stuff, that is ridiculous. Note: Next week there is many holidays and She will come for sure.

Today's breakfast? Idlis from the roadside stall weren't that fresh and of great quality as I had in Hyderabad or even in better hotels here... but I had not much of choice. I will buy some bananas and even poha this evening to save myself in such situations The lunch for today is my style of medicated pulao - rice, potato, some peas and carrot in it and curd

Hi didi I could not save much of that dinner and did not want to restart. So boiled some potatoes, mashed them, put them up in the bread (kind of sandwich) and had those. I had just some 6 slices of bread (which I had saved to today's breakfast) felt hungry at the mid of the night and nothing to eat... drak 5 liters of water in the entire night It is good that I dont drink milk... I cannot stand it cleaning after the mess. She has no holidays this week. Only one - Good friday. but they are doing some admissions in the school and it is unlikely. I will be going to her (hopefully) if she doesnt have a holiday.

Hello thesids, Affectionate, gentle and accommodating : if you are not a perfect cook, you have all the qualities of a good husband. It never happened to me during a phone call, but I forgot two times my meal on the stove because I was having fun on myLot. It is not a disaster, just more dishes.

With me it's the tea kettle. I put it on to boil and then go up to the computer while I wait and forget all about the water. Now I start the water, set up the pot, and ask my husband, who is already downstairs, to please pour the water when it starts to boil. This seems to work out. Sorry your wife can't be home with you.

hi bagarad This is exactly what my mom used to do when she was the only one to cook in our family and it came in between her and her Television Soaps. I think it is great when you are together, as you can count on your partner to handle the things for you many a times. I too do that but this time, I was all alone and feeling more upset

I experience burning the one i was cooking when i watched a t.v. and chatting with a relative on the next house thru a window of our kitchen. But i never experience burning a meal over the stove because of a phone call.hehehe. Its okay as long as you were the only one left starving when your going to start to cook another meal but you will be very frustrated if someone is also waiting for that meal to be cooked. :)

Hi robelleriosa Well, on the contrary, I am a bad host. I dont hesitate asking my guests to help me in the kitchen... after all it is they who would be enjoying my food I see many people stay glued to the Tele and make things better (or worse) and I can understand their reasons as I know Tele is more addictive

AH, yes....multiple times! Many a wasted hour...spent, scrubbing, rubbing, scraping...soaking the blackened, burnt pots, and the only thing that is good for is TIME for reflection, with a re-occuring thought..YOU WILL NOT DO this again! Worst item, Pasta! Oh, the dilemna..as I try to get my weather-worn hands with huge scrubber down into every nook...and cranny, and make the pot look like nothing happened! I hate those words; "Mum, did you forget something on the stove..again?" You see, in my culture...the young relate AGE to forgetfulness.....and they are always looking for minute signs of memory retardation! LOL! Course, I always have to test my own mental agility..with an innate amount of multi-tasking...and can get easily DISTRACTED! I have had to rescue myself...with multiple timers! Thank goodness..they are one of the few kitchen gadgets...below $2.00! They seem to be the commonality in my home decor... I had to come up with a "one woman rescue plan"...OR be placed in the group of "old folks"...!

OH, my...dearheart! That is not substantive food! I know, with your health issues..one must be careful of one's diet, as it can be irritated so easily....but, as there was a little unrest, bland was the good choice. BUT...5 litres of water...I would have been sleep walking to the washroom..! About a month ago, I started experiencing extreme, leg spasms..ONLY at night! Just out of the blue...! Not cramps, but spasms...so went on line and discovered Quinine would alleviate them...Only possible way, without prescription, is Tonic Water..and must drink about 1 Litre at night to prevent them...Downside..a nightly bathroom marathon, and the end result is like I have been sleep walking ALL night....it really is quite funny, to wake up more tired than before going to bed! O.K., you have had the experience..ONCE, that is enough as the cleaning is torturous!

I have been drinking a lot more water lately, and it has lead to these late night bathroom runs. In fact, it has reminded me of one of the reasons why being pregnant was not all that much fun ... you only get to sleep for a couple of hours at a time, because you have to get up to pee several times a night. On the positive side, though, if I do not get enough exercise during the day I don't worry so much, because I know I will make it up with all the walking I will be doing at night!

Hi sis-mom and make the pot look like nothing happened! I got a taste of how it goes this time... And I was lucky I had some bread in the refrigerator... had 6 slices and so I mashed up some boiled potatoes and made myself sandwiches... then as I was awake till 4:00 am, I started feeling hungry and by the time I slept, I had about 5 litres of water. I rarely end up having my food burnt but this time... I think I needed to have that experience too

At least you have made us learned that you actually cook. Smile..Congrats to that.. But next time, manage everything well. Have the phone or the computer placed near the kitchen..where you can still take a look at the stove... And feel sorry that you are away from your wifey. You have the phone to keep in touch with her, anyway.

Hi keshlois Oh yes, I cook better than many of my friends Not a kind of thing I preferred but it came to me naturally I guess... as the Lord above knew I would have to cook for myself most of the days Normally such a mishap is rare to happen with me and maybe this is why I was unprepared... will be careful now... Well, yes, I can call my wife but she remains too busy these days with her new job... and it is painful to bear days and weeks without us being together even for a few hours.

You were so focused on your conversation at the phone, hence you forgot about what you are cooking, sids. Well, that happens most of the time for those who do two things at a time and for me also. But hey, you can do it in front of what you are cooking. But that is, if it's a mobile phone or a wireless land line phone. So, were you able to eat it still?

Hi SimplyD I actually started off the talk in the kitchen but as it started to get loner, I moved to the other room as it was quite hot in the kitchen. And then when the discussion shifted to her not visiting me, I felt more diverted and upset. Yes, I did have 6 slices of bread with mashed boiled potatoes which did work good for a while

Next time, tell your wife to ask you if you are cooking something I know her queries which would follow - Are you Telling Me and then she will always take it on the negative - and conclude - I am telling her this because I am not in a mood to talk... She gets confused more easily by my statements

Hi thesids, Hope u have decided to visit your wife during the weekend/coming week & oh sorry to hear that mess. When we are so much involved in other things (tv, phone, gossip etc)and we forget about the kitchen affair, only the burning smell remind us that we left the job half done. However i do always take care to lower the sim whenever i have to attend something else that way there are less chances of any such accidents. I have to take extra care as in the morning hours i do a lot of multi tasks and some short cuts to finish the household chores before leaving for work. The milk get over spilled at times as i don't use a milk cooker / boiler. I think once a while i can clean that mess.. take care

Hi viju nah, not this week. I have lots of work here... starting from cleaning up the house(it is in a mess right now... kind of a bachelor's room) and then there are Ants who seem to be the sole occupants of this house... I had been away for a few days and staying with my parents due to blood pressure issues (now feeling much better). So this Sunday it is going to be me and my war against these ants. Yes, doing the sim should have worked but it just slipped out of my mind as the phone call from her was an important and rare thing to happen with me... But now I have learned and will be careful henceforth for sure.

Hello Thesids, Oh My God glad that you realized your meal is burning before it can burn your kitchen, it is really dangerous. I have neighbor who got their house completely burned down because they forgot that they were making dinner. I understand that sometime when we got a call it can distract our mind and make us forgot what we are doing. Well last wednesday my mom was making dinner when suddenly we got a call from a neighbor who informed us that their mother passed away, my mom did not tell me that she was boiling chicken for dinner. so my mother went out to the neighbor and everyone was not aware until i smelled something burn. I ran and quickly turned off the stove. oh my God, the chicken looked burning but glad that we can still eat it, it was just like roasted chicken When my mom got home, she was like "dont inform your father and just tell him that our dinner tonight is roasted chicken" Glad that my father never found out that it was actually a burned chicken.

Hi fashionfever Dear, do you want me to get scared... reading the mention of "having a burnt kitchen and then the house" I do feel scared. Hopefully I am not that unlucky as we stay at a rented place and I dont want to end up filling the bills for the re-creation of my landlady's house I am glad that you had company and you weren't caught when the chicken got over-cooked... Unfortunately, it was all me who had to do away with his dinner and even the clean up... trust me, I never had an experience of cleaning some utensil set with such an over-cooked food item and it was HORRIBLE MESS

Of course dear, the advice is quite a welcome one. Though like you I am quite certain that this kind of incident will not get repeated as I see this is the first time anything like this happened during the past 3 months - the time I have become a full time chef for me - and also, this incident made me go quite empty stomach the entire night and so I have learned the lesson better

Thesids, I dont mean to scare you but everything related to kitchen and the burning made me shiver, actually I had this kitchen phobia and I just overcome it. I wonder what did you eat after the burning incident, did you cook another food or you ordered fast food? well yes I agree with you to clean the burned utensil is a hard hard hard work, but glad my father never found out. Can I give you a little advice? perhaps you should set a timer while cooking so incase you are busy with mylot or a phone call, the alarm is going to remind you that you are making something in the kitchen. But I do hope that this incident is never going to happen anymore.

Hi Godson Sorry that you nearly ate a charred food... and that your wifey is not there with you all the time as she's working far from your home. As for me, I haven't forgot the food. Sometimes I had to switch off the burner so that the food won't get charred when there is an important call. The other day I was boiling a rice and doing other things when I forgot about the rice.... good thing, a friend saw that it needs to have a little more water otherwise rice will be a little uncooked. I dont know how to boil rice in a stove, I just know how to use the rice cooker

Oh well, that was a good conversation, with another topic and of course close and personal. I had a similar experience two weeks ago. Somebody called me on my phone so I went ahead and answered. We had a good conversation that lasted for sometime. Then suddenly, I smelled something awful. I remembered that I had been frying something and I totally forgot because I was immersed with my conversation. It smells bad that I had to buy for another meal.

Hi god_is_good Great thing about your mishap was that you could buy and get something substantial for your meal. Unfortunately, it was around 10:30pm here and almost all the eateries out there in the vicinity were closed - I could not get anything and had to do away with the 6 slices of bread I had with mashed boiled potatoes... and then around 5 litres of water for the rest of the night... tossing in the bed sleepless and feeling hungry

hi thesids not while on the phone b ut when I was still in our apartment i would get so involved and engrossed in mylotting that I scorched the rice and oh the odor plus it was going to ruin the dish I was trying to make.as rice is not a dish I love with any passion but a food that will shoot up my blood sugar I substituted pasta with a delicious spaghetti tomato pasta sauce over the veggies and had my own delicious spaghetti via Hatley so it was not a total loss. but the burnt food in the best saucepan I owned was a really tedious job getting it clean again. And I had never found an easy way to get burnt on food off a stainless steel saucepan. Now I do not get to cook as I am in this tiresome retirement center so do no cooking at all. I really do miss that too specially my own spaghetti hatley.

Dear ms Hatley Of course, mylot had become quite addictive last year (same time) when there were so many great discussions and so much more of fun. Though I didnt do any cooking during those days regularly - I cooked on special days and during that time, I always stayed away from computer. This time, however, I am all alone (been about 3 months now) and we both are unable to cope up with the distance this new job of hers has created between us. I will be relocating to her town of job sometime in June as by then I would have completed most of my assignments that I have from this place.

Well not just talking on the phone, also whilst being on the computer. Often times when I cook it's right after getting home, and my routine is to also use the comnputer so that I can earn more. I've burnt a few things by accident and had to dump it down the drain because of it.

When I am into a voice chat with my client of friends, I get more involved and many a times this ends up in me having overcooked food... so I learned a way out and try to finish my cooking before the scheduled time when I am online. Oh yes...among other things that tend to distract me...lol. I would have been very distracted by a phone call like that too. As far as my relationship with myLot, well, it tends to distract me as well. I think my b/f may be a bit jealous sometimes too but he has his own things that keep him busy for the most part. He is usually downstairs playing his instruments when I am myLotting. I am not much of an audience all the time although I do support his passion for music.

No food stories come to mind immediately, but only a few weeks ago I got a phone call from my oldest daughter. She was having a bit of a problem and wanted to talk with me about it. I got so involved with talking to her and trying to help her with her problem that I almost forgot to pick my little one up from pre-school! I had to rush there, and fortunately I was only a couple of minutes late, but my little one was not very happy that I had "fogotten" her.

Yes, it could be a very dangerous thing to forget to pick her up. Fortunately, she was at pre-school, so she was safe. She was helping the teacher clean up the classroom for the next class when I got there. She was not scared at all, but she was a bit upset that she thought I had forgotten about her. I explained that her sister was upset and needed to talk with Mommy for a minute, which was why I was late, and that made her feel better - she loves her sister a lot and understood that sometimes her sister needs to talk with Mommy when something is bothering her just like she (my little one) does.
