so we declared the femina ms india and runner up 2012, from Chandigarh,Pune and chennai. and the judges were "director Rohit shetty, TV antor sakshi Tanwar, cricketer Harbhajan singh, actor SOnali bendre, Times Group MD Vineet Jain, designer Raghavendra Rathore, producer Ekta Kapoor, singer Sonu Nigam, actor Sonam Kapoor, MD of Bajaj FinServ, Sanjiv Bajaj"
If you could google search the judges of past years the list is not much different.
The last title for Ms world and Universe from India was held in the year 2000.
I have a feeling that we need to access the quality of judges for such pageant of international stature. I fail to understand how cricketers, TV actors, Finance MD knows the criticalities to judge Femina beauty contests.

Hi Shweta!
You see in such beauty peasants Judges should be from different fields so that their collective decision may not appear to be biased towards a particular participant. When judges who are experts in their respective fields, judge a model as Ms. India, it shows that the model would be extra ordinary or above average than others, therefore, everyone favored her choice. (Given the choice, I would like be judge in such contexts ........)
Imagine if the judges are from the world of modelling/fashion designing only and they judge anyone as Ms. India/Ms. Earth, their decision will be seen as influenced by personal choice or favoritism.
Also, many of the celebrities do not like to be a 'judge' in such beauty peasants, therefore, organizers are sometimes left with limited choice of selecting someone as judge.

again thanks for responding. the sole response till now. thanks again.
I understand your point of view. I am not supporting that the judges should be only from fashion industry, but someone who is aware of international standards atleast.
given a choice for sure even i would like to be a judge for such contests.
YOu rightly mentioned that due to limited choice, femina might be selecting anyone...it could be a small part time TV actress...however that would reflect in our nominations getting rejected in the early phases of the MS world/universe contests...

You are right that if judges are experts in their respective fields and apply international standards, the results of crowning Ms. India could be different.
The Organizers might not be interested in paying higher fees to judges, therefore, they might have selected the judges which were easily available on less price (read fees)..

True.. The quality of judges need to be improved. Maybe the organizers of these contests are seriously cutting costs. But, I mean, there has to be at least one representative from the Fashion world so that she can provide "technical expertise" on the beauty/charm/charisma etc.. of the contestants based upon which the decision could be narrowed down...
