These been all over the news and trending all over the net. Because of Jenna Talackova was disqualified from competing in Miss Universe Canada because she was born male. Even here in my country "Binibining Pilipinas" beauty pageant contestants are against for joining transgender on the pageant. Someone say's they have their own pageant and she don't think they are allowed to join in the same pageant. What are your views on this?

i believe that is the right decision...if he really wanted to join a beauty pageant he should only join the pageant that is fit for him and its in the gay pageant...it would be unfair for other legit contestants if he was not disqualified...

but she is not gay. she is transgender. that is not the same as being gay she is only gay if she is attracted to other women. but I doubt the competition specifies which gender it's competitors should be attracted to. and why is it unfair on other contestants? surely they have the advantage, having not been born in the wrong body. if, after gender reassignment, they are still pretty enough to win, good for them.

having both is hermaphrodite. transgender is to be born with the wrong reproductive organs. where the mind is one but the body is the other. the term is used both before and after gender reassignment surgery. Gay is if you are a man who is attracted to men or a woman who is attracted to women.

I think it's just right, the pageant organizer or any one connected with the contest have the right to make it clear that the contest were for female contenders only as the title says "Miss" and anyone not belonging to that category is disqualified. Anyway there are beauty contests locally and even in other countries for transgender so they still have a chance if they really want to join beauty contest.

I guess we'll see that in the future too. These days nothing is impossible. So that our own transgenders could compete and show to the world that we have all what it takes to be a winner.

I do not think there is anything wrong with her/him been disqualified. The beauty pegeant was meant to be for female but not transgenders and most probably she did not reveal that she was a transgender until later on.

Well, it's called "Miss". So what a "Miss" refers to? Whatever, I respect those transgenders and appreciate their courage to take part in such contest.

I agree with you Kshongmo, it doesnt matter what the Miss refers to. I respect those transgenders for having the courage to step out on the stage and show their beauty. What could qualify someone being called "miss" if someone feels like a miss and wants to be considered a miss, then they should be a miss.

Oh well, oh well. In my personal and truly personal opinion, I think that women will have their own beauty pageant and male have their own as well. I am not into following news about such events so I don't know the details about it. In my limited understanding, there are only two and only two genders: male and female and nothing more. Man just made another gender but it will not always be, because we are designed who we are in the womb of our mother. We may try to change it but is not who we are. We are just living in a life of denial.

I think people born male should be banned from it. It is a pageant for women and no matter what changes a person makes, they can't change what they were born as.

if someone born a man can still be pretty enough to beat other women in the competition, good luck to them.

I totally agree with this. She was born a man but is now a woman, I really don't understand why some people see her as having an advantage over the other contestants. If anything she would be at a disadvantage, surely? As for the argument that it is not fair because she has had surgery whereas the other contestants are naturally beautiful, it wouldn't surprise me if most of the other contestants had undergone some form of cosmetic procedure. What I find most amusing is how these pageants have been stressing that the women aren't just judged on their faces and bodies but on the beauty of their minds and personalities as well. It seems to me that this contestant wasn't judged on any of these. In her mind, this contestant has felt like a female pretty much from birth and now has the female physical attributes too and yet the pageant is judging her based on the body she was born with!

I think that transgenders should definitely be able to participate in beauty pageants. In their minds they are females and I don't think that other people should have the ability to deny them that right. If we really want equality in our planet and in our countries than we need to start truly accepting people for who they are without any exceptions. Acceptance is key for us as a whole in the human race for the future. We can't exist as a cooperative unit that forms this planet if we do not except each other and actually try and see where other people are coming from.

It's sort of a complicated issue. Because, transgender people had their bodies and oftentimes faces altered. In a beauty contest, don't you think this could be considered cheating? I'm not sure, it's a touchy subject. Because many will say that if you exclude transgender people you're discriminating against them when all they really want is equal treatment, and in a way it is discrimination. But in the end, I guess it all goes down to the fact that Miss Universe has its own rules and can make its own decision on the matter.

Transexuals i think already have their own international pageant, Most of them are held in Thailand. I dont know why they want to compete in a pageant that is meant for real women. Their biggest excuse is the equal rights, I think Canada now legally accepts transexuals as real women. But still people watches Miss Universe for real women.Anyway she is reinstated.

Hello, lynboobsy11! Because it's for women, he should be disqualified. I have nothing against transgender, but we should accept the fact that the contest is for female alone. Let's focus our attention to other contests or competitions. In boxing, can a female join if the boxing is for men? I don't think it'll be allowed. How about in basketball? Can a female participate if it's basketball for men? There's always a place for everyone, and that pageant is not for him for he is still a man no matter what happens.

definitely a woman. it's not her fault if she was born with the wrong body. and like I said, if despite that, she's still attractive enough for the competition, then she's acheived even more than the other contestants. maybe their feelings are hurt by being beaten at being feminine and pretty by someone that was born in a male body.

I think the question here is whether you view this contestant as a male or female. You refer to 'him' whereas I would refer to 'her'. She has thought of herself as female almost from birth and identified herself as such from the age of 4. She then underwent gender reassignment surgery at the age of 19. The way I see it, even if people refuse to refer to her as female, she's certainly more female than male. To me, if someone was born a female but identified themselves as male then underwent gender re-assignment surgery, they should be allowed to take part in basketball and boxing. Transgender athletes and sports-people do exist, including US basketball player Kye Allums.

I think it should depend on the contest. If it's for only women the women should join, if it's for male, men should. Personally I don't like these kind of beauty competitions. But if why not for all people? Should there be a one for only female and one for only men or for transgender? In the end beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to be honest I find seldom beautiful what some old men say it is or should be. This besides of the fact the world is full of beautiful people, most of them are not willing to join a competition at all. Being a snob, acting and lots of make up also has nothing to do with being beautiful at all. I wish those competitions would go back to natural beauties.

I agree with you Kitty individual has their own beauty and why there's must be a competition with lots of artificial within the contestants. Hi adialily, I think if they have the surgeries still they are born male, and being a female it is not fair with the other female contestant. He/she has a beauty because of the surgery but the true female is in her natural beauty. You saw the other contestant and looks like a male to you because he is almost perfect because of the surgery you can see the difference of the artificial looks he has.

I could see if the contestant was a cross-dresser instead because then he'd still be male in a female competition, but the contestant already got the surgeries making them female which means its a female competing against other females. I think people confuse crossdresser with transgender a lot. Seriously, if she never said anything and no one else did then no one would have ever realized that was she was born male. When I saw the picture of her with another contestant, I thought the other contestant was the male. You are right though. If people love these competitions then they should go back to being natural beauties. Not half starved women desperately trying to fit into evening gowns, add 10 pounds of make-up, smiling in a bikini, give some half-wit overused answer like they want 'world peace' when more than half of them could care less, etc. And just think women are doing this to their toddlers as well. I bet the only people really protesting though are the jealous women and men who'd be upset if they were 'pleasuring' themselves during the swimsuit or talent competitions.

Has anyone else heard what the other contestants have said about her being disqualified? I haven't but thought it would be interesting to hear their responses. At a guess they'll be divided on the issue too.

I think that if a person wants to truly change their identity, they should be able to do as they please under that new identity. I did not take my husband's name when we got married, but if I did, I'd be able to do as i wanted in that name, as opposed to the name under which I was born. That would legally be my name. I don't see how it's any different when someone changes their gender.

i have nothing against them, but since it's something that's for "women", i believe it's much appropriate to have their own competition to be fair for the straight "women". that's all my thoughts.

I don´t like beauty contests be it women, men or whatever. They treat people as objects. But if transgender people are not born genetically women (even though externally the baby might sjhow different signs) they would not belong to a womans´s beauty pageants.

Transgender should not be banned in beauty pageants. However, we should respect Terms and Conditions of the competitions we like to joined in. If they will be allowing you or not. But cheating its submitted profile is another scenario. I hope this clarifies that discrimination is the less aim of one's comptition.

hi, for me i can not see any reason why should a transgender will be banned from a beauty pageant, and yes i have watched that news about disqualifying from competing in Miss Canada,a transgender can also show what women do in a stage of pageant and this is kind of discrimination again.

Absolutely No, for me. It's just not right to have naturally-born male contestants in these pageants. Afterall, gay communities have already opened their own pageants, so they should stick to those and stop forcing themselves into real-women's league. Its disrespect for the female gender.
