The right camera?

I am about to go off to college, and I want to a really nice camera to take pictures of my experience, since I really never owned my own camera, and my mom won't always be there to capture moments as a parent would. Any ideas on a really affordable and nice camera for a college girl? I want to spend no more than $100.
