Drowned, close to death

Last week, my family decided to swim at the nearest pool. Me and wife don't have enough stamina in swimming, but I'm way little better than my wife. Without hesitation, my wife suddenly swim towards deep part of the pool and just said that she can handle it. I was just watching her when she suddenly ask for my help. I then rushed in jumping towards her and try saving her. Then the time comes, when I'm out of breath, so what I did is just push her upward so that she can breath. I don't know how to swim while saving someone that's why I only push her upward. During my 3rd push towards the side, I only drank too many water and I think I'm also drowning because everytime I push her up, she pushes me down the water. When I came back up, my wife is already far from me while I was also trying to gain back my breath. Luckily, the lifeguard is there to save her. If there was no one out there, I think I will be late to save her again. Any thoughts on how to save life in swimming considering that I'm still new to swimming?

How big is that swimming pool at all? Aren't their life vests? There should always be or a life-belt. If you can swim already you should only train more frequently so you are able to swim that distance (which can't be that big, my 8 year old son can swim it at least 10 times up and down).
It's really a miracle that you both jump into a pool if you can't swim that well. Hope you both will take swimming lessons and practice frequently. This is the only way to not get out of breath and get more self confidence. How to safe life is something you learn here after you have many diploms (including swimming with clothes and shoes on for long(er) distances and be able to swimm with only your hands no feet etc).

It's probably around 25 ft distance. Your kid swimming 10 times up and down is already a very good feat. We have not been into training for swimming. I guess this time, I think I should. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think that was so irresponsible of your wife to do. She put her life and your life at risk knowing that both of you don't really know how to swim well.
Anyhow, I think the other post was right, both should learn to swim or at least float because that's exactly what you do when you're tired.
It's good that there was a lifeguard, but I think the lifeguard should have noticed you going down the first time instead of coming just in the nick of time.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I agree, she just swam into the area wherein she doesn't even know how to swim. I emphasized it to her after the incident and it's a very big lesson for her.
