What culture do you prefer anyway?!

Born in the Philippines, but raised up in the the Netherlands. When my parents moved to Holland they kinda kept their Filipino mentality. You can allready guess what kind of complications this brought in my life. I was 5 years old when I moved abroad. Speaking and understanding both languages has some advantages. But to fully submit to both cultures is just impossible! How do you cope with that?!

I don't know! That sounds like a tough situation to be in. I am not in touch with my heritage at all. I was born in the US but I have Swedish & Czech roots. (My grandparents were from Czech Republic & Sweden - but emigrated to the U.S. in the '30s). Anyway, I can't imagine having two major cultures that influence your life. I guess maybe you can try to juggle both. Perhaps take what you like out of each, and kind of create your own mixed culture by doing so. Filipino-danish. He he he. Something like that.

Of course I mixed my own culture and created my own mentality. :) People just have to accept who I am right? ;)

It can be a very tough situation to be in and to try and handle two or more cultures at the same time can be very difficult. I guess you can just try your best to submit to both cultures or just take a little bit from each culture that you feel comfortable with and submit to those parts of it...

Since I made my own mentality, there will always be something my parrents would dislike. Some of my friends will even tell me that I'm weird. So I will never be fully pilipino nor dutch.
