My Fluffy Purse Ensemble

Well, I find traditional and fasionable purses so boring and some are just plain ugly, I mean I've tried a few and even spent a whopping $40 on a purse that I used for 2 years before it fell apart and nope, I couldn't get used to the style. It's really not my way. I'm not the pretty, fashionable chick who carries purses. I'm not even an ugly, unfashionable girl who carries purses either!
So here is my solution. I love to knit, so I made my own fluffy purse ensemble, using a yarn very similar (and some even are by this brand) Bernat Boa fun yarn and a regular acrylic base yarn, and knitted drawstring bags - 5 using straight needles and 1 using a knitting loom. Then for the drawstring I braided 3 strands of the fun yarn together with 3 strands of the base yarn in a regular braid. For my big one I used 4 strands of each type of yarn making it into a chinese braid.
I love it. It's different, and I'm pretty sure people look at the fluffiness when I take it out of my rucksack and take out a fluffy change purse out of my fluffy main purse, hehehe! It sure makes me smile every time I see it. Here's a link to it (I put it all on Sidetick because I think it allows non-sidetick members to see it while on Facebook I could make it public but non-facebook members still wont' be able to see the album, so to make it convenient I put it all on Sidetick. http://www.sidetick.com/album.php?user=25841&album_id=10642&sharer=25841 I tellya, this is pure eye candy for the depressed knitter :-))))))))))))

Hello Masihi, Im happy to see you post another knitting item you've made. Your creativity give me so much inspiration. I take a look at your album and I give my two thumbs up for you, great job. I dont knit alot because Im still focussing on my crochet lesson, but I also make crocheted purse. It is fun when we carry our ownmade purse or bag. Your purse are cute and I love the colour.
When Im done with my crochet project I'll begin with knitting lesson, so far I only knitted this scarf using 4mm knitting needles. You said you are using 5 straight needles if im not mistaken it is what we called as Single Pointed Needle right? I have these 5 SPN (Single Pointed Needle) and I was told it is use to knit a hat, so we can knit a purse by this kind of needle? I would love to try it. I dont have a knitting loom yet and I envy your knitting loom . Keep on posting another project you've done, I would love to see it. My crocheted item are uploaded on my profile gallery but Im dying to learn how to knit.

Well, all I did was to knit a square or rectangle fabric and sewed them up then braided the drawstring, but ya, the bigger one is made on my knitting loom. You can get a set of 4 from walmart for under $20, and in my opinion, it's a lot easier to learn how to knit via loom than it is to learn how to knit via traditional straight needles. I wish I can knit in the round on dpn's but having so much trouble w/that, even w/youtube videos, so maybe later on I'll be able to buy some knitting classes in person. I dont' know anyone here in Halifax who knows how to knit, or is willing to teach me.

Hi Masihi, oh yes that is douple pointed needles not single pointed needles my mistake. Im going to get myself a set of a cheap plastic loom for $8, I cannot afford the solid plastic loom yet as I checked in a knitting store the price is $40. Another goal is to learn about cable knitting. There are so much that I want to learn.

Cable knitting is more for advanced users so I'd probably start with the basic stuff like the knit stitch, purl stitch, basic patterns, that sort of thing. I'm just doing basic things myself and not sure if I'll be able to learn to knit mittens without the aid of a real live teacher sitting in the same room as myself. No, I didn't pay $40 for the set I purchased, I think it was $17 something tax included for the 4 looms, it's all different sizes too. I'm also going to make myself a flat loom using wood and nails, that'll make me a blanket.

Those are really cute, and they are hand washable, right? Then all you have to do is knit one big bag and attach velcro, so you can place the smaller bags within easy reach. See, I like my purses not only washable, but big enough for all my junk, yet organized enough to find everything..:)

Ya they are hand-washable, but I'd wash them in only luckwarm water and mild detergent, don't want the yarn to shrink or anything, I use a lot of scrap yarn that I purchase from thrift stores so I don't know which is wool (which shrinks) or which is acrylic, so definitely not to use the machine.
I don't use this as a shoulder bag, I carry a rucksack on my back but have that purse in it.

You know I will have to get over there and see it pretty soon. I have a few items I have made that make me smile. That includes a T shirt that I fringed, tied beads on the fringe and did a stamped design on the shirt. I love that I rattle softly when I walk. I have to be in the right mood, but when I am, I love that shirt. I can feature your purse ensemble. I made a quilted purse once from a pattern, but I filled it with little bags and pouches that matched. I can understand you enjoying this project.

Oh, it's lovely. I'm going through a really rough time, when few things make me smile these days and well...this purse ensemble does make me smile, the cute fluffiness of it, it's amost therapeutic in a way. Oftentimes I pick it up and rub it against my cheek and close my eyes. I think of it not able to hurt me like people hurt me, and I've always loved fluffy things, so ya, it's one of the few things that's making me smile these days.

I tried several times to look at your purses but my computer won´t let me see your link. Why don´t you put one picture here at mylot? You will even earn a little something more. I like your new avatar: congratulations!

Hmm...okay sorry, well I can upload one picture, it's a set of six purses including the big main purse, while the link I shared has the full explanation of what each purse is made for. I do apologise that you can't see the link. It was a lot of fun - nice, fluffy fun, too - during the time I was making it, hehehe. I might make another purse to hold sanitiser wipes as well, not sure. Anyway here's a picture of all my purses arranged on the floor.

Don't feel bad, I am not one to carry a purse either, I don't know why, even though I do find them pretty don't take me wrong, they aren't for me. I normally like the purses that are like small book bags that you put on your back I can't stand the ones that you have to carry in your arm/shoulder and I find them so annoying. My mom is always asking me why don't you carry a purse, instead of those look a like bookbags. I just find them so comfortable and convenient and that's what I prefer.

Ya, I rather carry a rucksack as well so that I can have my purse and first aid kit in it. I'll be purchasing a new one because the one I have I had for over 15 years and it's getting too easy to rip, even my plastic knitting needles poke holes in it so easily :-(

I will be purchasing one myself probably soon before I go on my trip, because the one I have has just decided to rip on me as well just this week :(, but at the same time I am happy because I am getting an upgrade :)!!!

I love the main purse, the color is so catching... Knitting is my hobby too I have three drawers (6 each) full with yarn for knitting and crochet tools I used to do it till my baby born 5 months ago. I think I want to make purse like yours very pretty. Thanks for sharing the idea and the picture.

Ya, having a family really does cut down knittiing time, but my kids are in school, plus we always go for drives as a family to see the country side and have a barbeque near the water or river so those are the times when I get the time to knit. Do you know how to use a knitting loom? I find that very easy, a lot easier for me than the traditional knitting needles. I also have a yarn stash which I gradually build up from purchasing from thrift stores, you practically save 80% on yarn that way, I've even gotten brand-new balls that are labled $12.50 but got it for 99 cents - wow.

I applaude YOU, and your ingenuity..a very cute ensemble!
I am NOT a pursie-type person, and therefore, functionality is the most important thing for me! And what I use for a purse, makes most person's laugh...but itdoes the trick. Because, 90% of my travelling and shopping is done on an E-bike, I need something that withstand the weather and work as a shopping bag, too...So, I use the carrying case for my Skil Saw...LOL! Heavy black, waterproof canvas, with a flat bottom!
Only when I make the big trip to a Metro area..do I use a somewhat "girly" type purse!

I carry my purse in my rucksack, and I'll be getting a new one actually since the one I have is over 15 years old. It's made by Tundra, which is a really good make. I know it'll cost me a few bucks, but since I'm always biking and walking, it'll be good for me to get a good ergonomic one. I've even had someone ask me if they could feel my purse, she just loved the softness of it :-)
