Okay, I was talking to my sister about my earnings on eBay (I have been doing pretty good lately!) but she mentioned to me that she thinks that PayPal takes a small percentage out of any kind of money you transfer. I have a personal account, and I have never noticed this before.. Or read it in the TOS (Although who actually reads the Terms of Services? Ha....Not usually me...) I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about this?!

When you take a payment PayPal will take a percentage - I'm not sure how much off the top of my head, and it might be different in your country anyway, but it should show up on your account under the actual payment. I think of it in the same vein as income tax, I'd rather not pay it but it is a normal part of the transaction and something to bear in mind when you're pricing stuff to go on Ebay.

I, like you, never noticed PayPal taking a percentage out of my Ebay sales. But during my last transaction with Ebay I did notice it, I believe they took a few bucks from me. I was mad because I didn't know they did it. I looked it up, and sure enough it says they will take a precentage out. I don't know if it's new or what, but it sucks!

PayPal's a business, not a charity. They've got to make their money somehow. Taking a small percentage of the money you receive seems perfectly reasonable to me, especially when you think what a useful service they provide.

I've actually enrolled another bank checking account I have for PayPal just this weekend. I was hoping to use PayPal to transfer money between my banks. I've always transferred from PayPal to my account without any fees. I was hoping that I wouldn't get charge any fees when I transfer money from my bank to PayPal. Maybe I should read that darn TOS!

It depends on the amount being sent. When you receive a payment there are various methods of payment being sent. Sometimes the sender pays the fee and sometimes they send it as a gift. I am pretty sure payments from EBay won't cost you anything. I have sent funds to my friend sin the past that cost me I believe 2% (But now use Amazon Payments).

I guess it's cross-border payment(a payment that's being transferred from another country)she's talking about? Or otherwise as being Indian PayPal user I haven't yet encountered they charge you a fee for transacting inside the very same country.

Paypal take fees for non personal payment. Payment for Goods, Service, and Ebay are charge. I don't know about ebay because i have never sell anything there, but i know in fact for Goods, they charge 2.5%-3.5% + $2.00 for each transaction. Personal payments doesn't charge anything. For mass pay paypal charge 2$ per payment with maximum of $1 per payment. For international masspay from china and hong kong they has $50 maximum per payment.

If this happens they must disclose this. I have never noticed this in my account. But I will log on again and take a closer look.

Yes, they do take a percentage out. So when selling on eBay you are paying them and paypal. I think it shows that you were paid the full amount in your transaction, but your account balance is smaller. So if you received $50.00 for the sale, it shows that the other person paid you the $50.00. When you look at your account balance it will only show that you have $48.00 available to you. If you do a lot of business with eBay it makes it hard to realize they are doing that.

I too have a personal account and I've never had PayPal take money from me. In fact, I think I remember they gave me a few cents for free However, I don't use eBay and pretty much all my money in there comes from affiliate sites like myLot so I usually don't get a whole bunch of money in there at once.

Yes, they may take some fees. You should be able to see the fees on "Transaction Detail" for your each transaction. And it's normal anyway. Paypal don't offer such services with free cost. Although I don't really like the fees, but still it's just a normal thing to take fees. In order to get know more about fees, you should read about "Paypal Fees Policy". And also you may found this tool useful: http://ppcalc.com/ - it's a paypal fees calculator.
