Trying to get into Green Day, any songs that I "must" listen to?

So I'm trying to get into Green Day after my friend was telling me what a great band they are. I've only heard a couple of their songs on the radio and really know nothing about them. So I wanted to ask some of you useful people here in Mylot what Green Day songs I should try listening to or a certain album you recommend I buy. Since I know close to nothing about Green Day, I'm open to just about anything. I'm trying to expand my music library with bands and solo artist that actually make GOOD music, not just auto tuned trash. Thanks

Green Day is an awesome band that has been around for many years, since 1987 to be exact. They started gaining popularity in the mid-1990s when their album, "Dookie" was released. That was one of the first CDs I ever owned as a kid and I loved it. I would suggest that you listen to that album. Some songs I would recommend would be "When I Come Around," "Welcome To Paradise," and "Basket Case." Other Green Day songs I would suggest you listen to would be, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," "Holiday," "Boulvard of Broken Dreams," and "Wake Me Up When September Ends." There are several other great Green Day songs, but those are the ones I would recommend if you are just getting into them. Those songs will show you how the band started and how they changed through the years.

Thanks:) I've already heard of some of songs you have recommended but I never knew they were actually by Green Day. So I've noticed many bands change over the years : Green Day, Linkin Park,etc. Wonder why that is? Sounds like a great discussion topic;) Stay tuned. Anyway thank you for your suggestions. Im gonna look into them.

every bands or song writers has own character or style. All songs from musicians i think is good, cause we should appreciate a work of copyright.If you're in bad mood condition please listen this song from green day. "American Idiots" or "when september ends" is good lyrics to think about our life.

If your are trying to start listening to Green Day ,then start with American Idiot,Boulevard of Brocken Dreams.These are top hits of Green Day.These songs are somewhat inspirational or they shook you off.You get addicted to Green Day sometimes.All i have to tell you is to listen to most of their songs especially the top 10.

Green Day's cover of the Kinks' Tired of Waiting is actually pretty good. They are hugely influenced by the Kinks - check out Picture Book, then check out Warning. Do the same with Do It Again and Walking Contradiction.
