Keep in mind that a normal cold does not last more than a week and often less than a week. If you have a cold more than a week, it is probably allergies.
For a cold, relax. Take it easy. Pamper yourself. Bed rest is not necessary. Drink a lot of liquids like water and warm tea. Soup is good: chicken soup if you eat poultry or vegetable soup. You might feel bad for three or four days but if it is only a cold, you should be feeling a lot better by the fifth day.
There are a lot of OTC medications that should help. I am in the United States so our OTC medications might be different.
For coughs, try cough drops and OTC cough medicine. I get a bad cough after every cold. it is post nasel drip and I take an expectorant cough medicine to help me cough up the phlegm. I buy a top dollar brand name cough medicine that is both a depressant as well as an expectorant.
Honey and lemon in a glass of water should help with both the cold and cough.
But remember, that a cold only lasts seven days at the most and you should be feeling better by the fifth day. If it goes longer than seven days, see a doctor.

You should be feeling better by today and definitely by tomorrow.
Colds are annoying. When we get a cold, we feel bad for several days. There are some hours or a day or two when we feel really bad but then it begins improving.
Keep in mind that you are going to get well. Think about people who are not. I get cranky when I have a cold and feel sorry for myself.
During those times, i think about people who are really sick such as those with cancer, especially those who are terminal. I think about what it is like to really be sick and not getting well. It helps.
Thank you for the best response. Made my day.
