Easter is perhaps the most important festival in the Christian calendar. According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and penance. The week after Lent is called Holy Week. This is a season of good will, forgiveness and hope. A time of blessing and love. One of the more commonly used symbols of Easter is the Easter bunny and Easter eggs, both of which signify new life. It is known as a movable feast because every year the date changes.
