I try to give the gift of a smile to everyone I see. But I have never expected any response so I have not noticed how often my smile is returned, often a person will look startled and I can see their response is. Do I know that person, but even then I sometimes get a smile in return. So I have slowed myself down to take the time to really see the people I smile at and enjoy the responses I get. Blessings

Smiling is the most beautiful gift presented for human beings on this earth. I use to smile at many strangers walking along the roadside. Mostly, i don't miss smile if the person looks like having similar age of me. Most of them reply a smile to me.
Sometimes, when i walking alongside the road, i laugh by thinking of some events happened in my life. At that time, i turn to look at any person walking against me. He thinks of i am smiling at him, so he replies a smile anyways. In this kind of way, i smiled at a girl before few months, she also replies the same. I realized smile is a best to turn down anything in the world.

Now, that is a very practical feel good activity. I have found that this works well with the aged, really young and new parents, even if they are perfect strangers. With acquaintances it is normal. Unfortunately, the young and upcoming crowd don't respond, they seem to be very uptight somehow. Geographically, small town are much better at this than bustling metropolises.
I see life as a large collection of small joys and forgotten misery, you seem to be doing good at the joy part, I am happy for you. Keep it up!

It is a shame that more people don't make the effort to smile every day, because smiling is something that a lot of people might take for granted even though it makes us feel good. Even if we're feeling a little bit down, smiling can trick our brains into thinking that we're happy, and this means that we start to feel happy just by doing something as simple as smiling. I wish that I could tell everybody about this, as we all deserve to be happy, and there are such simple things that we could do to make it a reality that we can be happy indeed.

i read somewhere that a smile can make a difference to a person you give it. i remember when my husband and i were driving to work one morning. there was this old man that just passed the street even he saw us coming, so my husband decelerates and we were about to be mad but then the old man smile and make a funny face. so we just laughed about it and changed our mood.
i just realize how powerful a smile can be. once give genuinely it works magically. happy mylotting and keep smiling!

Personally there is nothing better than the gift of a Smile. I know for me it has helped to change my day when things are not always going the Best, and I know I have done it to others and watched their moods lighten as well. When you are able to politely smile and say "Hello!!" it often will get a person thinking and often be glad you did.

Hi savypat, I am really behind in responding to discussions here but as usual you've come up with another good one. I feel bad for people who say that they never smile, they are missing out on the best things in life. A smile says I'm happy and I want you to be happy as well. It brightens your day and also that of those you with whom you share it. Keep smiling. Blessings.

Just keep smiling, it's not important if people smile back. I think most do if you give them a big smile even if they are not used to smile anymore. But you will feel way better if you smile. Smiling is even using less face-muscles as looking seriously.
So keep smiling, greeting, sing of you like and dance if you pass by. Don't expect an respond or hi do it for yourself.
