Why does it hurt my stomach now?

It seems now that everytime I drink a soda it hurts my stomach. You think I'd stop drinking them but I don't. I bought a soda this morning and am drinking on it still. I am wondering if it's not an ulcer or something. It's not a bad pain, more like a discomfort. Anyone have any theories as to why it'd do that to me all of a sudden?
It's Pepsi if that makes a difference.

Soda usually helps calm my stomach. Maybe 7up or Sprite would be a better choice? Do you take any medicine that is supposed to be taken with food? I took ibuprofen, prescription strength, and they told me to take it with food. Which I did. But I ended up with two ulcers anway. Drinking soda alone I don't believe would cause you to get an ulcer.

Well I don't know. Even sprite was doing this to me yesterday. I think it's just time for me to stop drinking anything like it for awhile. I thought I was going to have the puke burps (indigestion) earlier but I didn't.

If you are drinking this on an empty stomach that could be why it hurts. The stomach acid and the pop's acid both aren't mixing well. Indegestion caused by stress or fatigue. such as that. The intestine will start to constrict if the stomach is empty and sometimes that causes the empty belly noise and could probably hurt a bit too.

I havent' drank anymore in a bit, and my stomach still hurts. I ate not too long ago and I think it made it worse. I don't know. I'm not hungry, I was stressed. I don't think it was stress because my stomach has been hurting like this after drinking sodas and I wasn't stressed.

Well, maybe an ulcer. Maybe your body just realized soda isn't that good for it, and it's trying to warn you! lol
I've been soda-free for about four years. Soda always gave me such bad gas. It would feel like my insides were tying up in knots and I would be burping for hours. And I'm not someone who likes to burp! I gave it up, and now I only drink water, green tea, and organic fruit juice.

I have, without trying, gone without soda for about three weeks before. It's really just because I had my favorite milk and drank it mostly. It's been awhile since I've done that. I know I need to stop drinking sodas, and I shouldn't have even gotten this one today.

If this is anything important I would like to share this info that soft-drinks have the ability to harden one's bowel.

I honestly would not doubt it and I suppoose that can explain why sometimes after drinking so much soda I've found myself miserable and stuck in the bathroom... Thanks for sharing that piece of information, I wonder what exactly it is in that does that?

I myself have no idea. It could be because of the carbon found in the soda or something-- I am still looking it up until now. I only know that it's acid and at the same time glasses of sugar that's why I rarely drink some of it--I am acidic and I have diabetic genes.

Wait a minute...are there softdrinks with caffeine?
Because in Wikipedia, it says "A soft drink may also contain caffeine, fruit juice, or both."
And according to this:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/515277-what-foods-help-to-keep-bowel-movement-stools-soft-when-you-have-diverticulitis/
(The link is not a referral link) "caffeine is a diuretic that will remove fluid from your intestinal tract and harden stool."

Hello, SomeCowgirl. My father had half of his stomach removed because he would not stop drinking soda. His drink of choice was Pepsi. It is mine as well but I dont drink it as much as he did. I have read the posts here and many of them seem logical. I think it may be an ulcer, and if that is the case, you should stop. His was an ulcer, and it grew because he just drank so much. Get it looked at, then follow what the doctor tells you. I hope that you get it fixed. Have a great day...

I will not drink any more soda for awhile. I haven't had any since I said earlier I would get milk. I do not want to have half of my stomach removed definitely and nor do I want an ulcer. I've got milk to drink and I'll buy a juice at work tomorow that will tide me over for awhile.
Thanks for letting me know about this. I can't afford a doctor so preventative measures will have to do. of course if it gets worse I'll go see a doctor.

whatever soda it is it doesn't make a difference.
it is just a reaction of all the carbonation and caffeine together with some sugar in this drink you should however ask your doctor.
you can also try drinking sprite or mountain dew sometimes it can remove stomach discomfort.
and here's a friendly tip from me never drink soda in the morning especially if you haven't eaten your breakfast yet.
don't drink cold drinks in the morning it may make your stomach bloat ( according to my mom) :))

I believe that I have done that and felt that same pain. I believe you're right, it's too big of a gulp. It could also be that the soda isn't something you are used to. Even after one or two weeks of not drinking soda one can feel the effects of just one sip after not having it for so long.

I am now in the U.K. and people use Pepsin here to clean their toilets. I would never drink the stuff. You may be getting an ulcer. Put a copper coin on Pepsin ans see how clean the coin is in the morning. Also full of sugar. Drink something else and see how you feel

I need to go back to drinking healthier stuff but I'm back with pepsi again. I know Coca Cola cleans coins so I wouldn't doubt pepsi does the same as well. I've no excuse not to try to drink healthier, but for some reason pepsi just calls my name...

Discomfort? Hmmm… maybe you need to see a doctor, because it is so difficult to determine what cause you to feel that way. Sometimes, if we do not feel something pain within us, there is a danger on it. I do not know. It really depends, like a disease name cancer. Someone told me that if you do not feel pain, there is a danger on it. We did not even know that it is already a cancer. So, this is the same for you. We did not know what cause you to feel that way and so, it is better to see a doctor.

I try my hardest to stay away from a doctor. I have been blessed with genes that where we tend to have mental illnesses, we seem to do better with other illnesses. I do need to eat healthier, admittedly so. I've not felt that pain since and I've been drinking sodas again.

That sounds a bit serious. I'd try to see about getting it checked out. In the mean time I'd drink and eat as healthy as possible, it could go away on it's own. Good Luck, and hopefully you'll feel better soon!

Some ginger if you have it might help with the stomachache, or maybe some honey. It always helps me. But I don't drink any soda anymore, I have since given it up over 5 years ago. You could loose a pound a year without drinking it, too. It helped me loose weight at one time when gave it up.

I know it is definitely not healthy. I don't like ginger unless it's mixed ginger ale and pineapple juice. When I had a bad tummy ache I got some ginger ale but ended up not drinking much of it because I hate it.

It's very odd how sometimes gas pains are present, but it feels like it's something completely different. I bet that that is what it was, I know now I feel better of course, but I do need to stop this soda habit I have.

I think you're getting too much acid from the amount of soda you had been drinking. And drinking soda in the morning is not something to be desired. It might cause ulcer and eventually cause lacerations in the intestine. You wouldn't want that to happen. But don't worry. We all have that struggle with soda. I do too. I've been wanting to get rid of this bad habit for years and I can't seem to get over it yet. But I do know that I need to stop it the soonest because I am not getting any younger and the older I get, the weaker my resistance is to possible diseases caused by drinking too much soda.

I had tacos for an early lunch before drinking the soda, and then I've had a chicken sandwich afterwards. I don't think that's it.

pepsi contains acid so if you drink it with empty especially with empty stomach, it will add up to the acids in your stomach causing pain, excessive gas formnation, heart burn or acid reflux. i also feel bloated whenever i drink soda or even a coffee so i try to avoid them. i will have excessive cas fromation that i always want to burp but i can't. so if you are experiencing such try to avoid drinking acidic drinks like soda.

I think it had to do with me not drinking it for awhile and then suddenly doing so again. As is I need to stop drinking it again, I don't need it, was perfectly happy and healthier without it. I bought another think of pepsi's earlier (yesterday) and atleast I've only had one of them thus far.

hello there,
maybe there is some ulcer, but maybe not that bad but still i think you need to get checked by a doctor.
do you drink soda in an empty stomach? like in the morning? because if you do, it will really hurt because of the acid on the soda and the acid in our stomach. that is why most people with ulcers are given Milk of Magnesia (Magnesium Hydroxide). it is an antacid or an alkaline suspension, meaning that it undergoes a neutralizing reaction when encountering anything acidic.
i think you should stop drinking soda for a while and just stick to water, then you can observe the difference. if it still continues then you should get checked.
i hope i am able to help you. i just learn that from college and studying hehehe. i finished nursing but currently not working yet because i just graduated and passed the board exam a few months ago. i hope you feel better soon. take care

The fact I know that it is used to clean rust and grime of of coins, and yet I still take it up and drink it. I need to stop it, and I can, I just.. choose not to? Yeah that's not a good enough excuse at all for me.

If your stomach is empty and you drink any soda, it can really cause stomachache. It is because your stomach becomes acidic and a soda contains acid resulting in hyper acidity. Thus, the result of this is ulceration of your stomach. I suggest that whenever you want to drink soda, make sure that your stomach is full or you have eaten. It is because, food makes the environment of your stomach alkaline.I also suggest that you seek a medical help to prevent further problem.
