Aluminum can art

I was thinking bout making cute planters with the bottoms of my tea cans after cutting up some of the aluminum. I was wondering what would be something i could use to smooth out the sharp edges aside from folding them over. I read somewhere I could use this stuff called diamond glaze. I also wanted to paint them and make them look glossy after the paint if that is possible which I'm sure it is. Any recommendations? :D
