Is it right that there is class on Easter monday for college students?

At my college we do not get off the day after Easter. I don't find that particularly fair. I live 8 1/2 hours away and cannot drive home to spend Easter with my family and still get back in time to get to class. I end up spending my Easter alone in my dorm. I miss being able to see my family and have a nice meal with them. Also I can't afford to fly home. I also don't think that in order to see my family I should have to miss class and important information that I am most likely going to need to know in the future. This is also why I think they should just make spring break the week after Easter. That way I can go home on Saturday and be able to spend Easter Sunday with my family. What are your opinions? Do you think we should have class?

What a weird country you live in :-) University students here have Easter Monday off, and the whole week before. As has most of the rest of the country, Norway shuts down for Easter. Some people work Monday, Tuesday and half of Wednesday, but if you can, you take the whole week off. I think that when I studied in Austria we had 2 weeks off (the students, not the staff).

I don't think that it is at all fair that people should be expected to work on a religious holiday, as they might want to celebrate and it would be against their beliefs. Apart from anything else, I would have thought that the tutors would have been happy to have a day off where they didn't have to come into work, so why on Earth they would plan a holiday for this day is absolutely beyond me. I have never experienced anything like this before, but I think that if they ever told me that I had to go in on a holiday I just wouldn't go and would stay at home instead.
