i want to know what everyone's take on the new "smart phones" is. Do you think its necessary that a device meant for phone calls, now has internet, games, apps, weather reports, social media updates etc. it seems like everyone these days uses their cell phones for everything but phonecalls.

the advantage of a smartphone is, you can call, text, play games, listen to music and you can surf (or free wifi).
its so basic many features in 1 gadget and easy to bring anywhere...

We do use them for a lot of things beside calls.
It comes in handy sometimes. You may want to take a picture and don't have a camera with you. Snap goes the phone camera.
You may want to check the weather to plan a trip tomorrow, you use the internet.
I don't think they are necessary for everyone but I don think they come in handy for business people who need to check their emails very often for example.

I agree, if you can afford the extra bill, then go for it! I have an iPhone 4, and I find it very useful, I think the last time I actually used a computer for something that I couldn't have used my phone for is probably before I got my iPhone. Also, my whole family has smartphones and we don't have a desktop computer which just makes it easier between who gets to use the computer when because we can all just use our phones and also, one of the really good things is that we don't pay for a house phone bill either! I personally think that smart phones are really easy, and if you work for a business company or in an office in general you can use your phone while your not at work if you got an email right as you left the office or something like that! I find them very useful, not necessary, but useful.

I don't think it's necessary but I have found it useful because I can check my email anytime.

Dear friend,
It depends upon the requirements of features in a phone and the price that person is willing to pay. May be these phone is part in the technology advancement. Those who can affort the price accordingly they can select their wants. I feel even if the latest versions gets outdated when advanced technology comes up. As the features in it gives more flexibility and uses to the user who know to use it. I wished these technologies made availble much cheaper.

I don't think it's about weather you can afford it or not... Or at least it shouldn't be... That's why i have changed my phone from smart phone to a regular slide phone... Would you pay extra for something you don't even use? Why leave the light on when you're not using it? Why leave the tv on when you're not watching it? Why get an extra large meal when you know you can only finish half of it? Why pay for 200 gallons of gas when your cars gas tank only holds 12 gallons at a time? Just because you can afford it? That just sounds silly to me, paying for stuff you don't need... With that said, if you NEED IT & CAN AFFORD IT, then of course you should get it... Because of work, I used to travel a lot... Most of the communication from my work was done through emails... It's a bit hard to do when I'm sitting at a diner in the middle of highway rest stop... Places I go to, I can be more efficient if I know what I'm getting my self into, it could be weather related so I can give myself little extra time or traffic reports so I can avoid being held up in traffic when I have an appointment... Smart phone helps me with that... I don't listen to music or play games on my phone so I can't really answer that... I go through some where between 2,500 - 3,000 minutes of talk time a month because of work... Yeah, I use it as a "phone" or "phone calls" , too... There's an app called foursquare... It lets you check into different places... Interestingly enough, I use it for work, too... Don't get me wrong, it's meant to be a social network app... But my co-workers & office can see where I checked in as well... They'll email me where the nearest job I need to go to depends on where I'm checked in... It can be used as a work app as well if you can utilize it correctly... Smart phones can be very helpful... They're more than just a toy... Too bad a lotta people use it just to p,at games or listen to music on & just to chit-chat with their buddies... But if that's what they want, I guess that's fine too...

Each person has different take on this. For me, cellphones or smart phones are important as I use my smart phone as a moderm at home. When I am out, I use my smart phone to send and recieve emails or browse the net. Thank for the technology now. Everything has been made so easy.

Not "neccessary" at all. I mean, more than half of our technology we have these days is not something that is NECESSARY. For example:
A Kindle/E-Book reader : We could just read a normal book..I would prefer this...
An iPad: So we can have the internet on the go...Isn't a normal computer ENOUGH?
A Smartphone: Can't we just go on the internet on a normal computer?
I love my Blackberry, don't get me wrong, but it's not something that's necessary. I lived without one for about 16 years of my life... Now that I am accustomed to the convenience of it of course, I would be lost without it. . But definitely not necessary.

I like the smartphone, because when I am not home, and don't have my computer, I can use my smartphone for doing things that I can do on my computer. I do use my phone for calls, as well, as playing games, downloading games to my phone, and also watching netflix. I do enjoy my phone very much as it has lots of features, which gives me a variety and I can choose to use some and some I don't choose to use. It is amazing how technical smartphones are becoming, and I think that above all other phones, they are quite popular. Sure there are some out there that don't need all the features so therefore, they would just use a simple hone. I just think the simple phones are boring, as I like to do more than just talk on mine. I just think that if a person can afford a smartphone, then they should go for it, and if not, then they shouldn't. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Mobile phone is not essential to me because I am able not to use it for the whole day and I only use it for calling my parents usually and my friends ocassionally if we meet. I use my laptop or computer for accessing the internet instead. Therefore, I don't really care if I don't have a mobile phone with me.

I think that smartphones are brilliant devices, they make day to day tasks a lot easier because you can check and send emails, text people, phone people, and access your computer. I use my smart phone every day i have my computer linked up to it so when an email is sent i can check and respond to it straight away.

I think it only boils down to one - if you can afford it, then go for it!
Would you go for a small tv set if you can afford the big one? Would you go for the local school if you can afford to go to the University? Would you settle for a meager job if you can go for a higher position? Would you eat a pauper's meal if you can afford a good serving?
It all depends on the person's capacity. Whatever the person does, buys, or decides on, we can't do anything about it. It's all in each one's perspective. It may not be 'right' to our eyes, but it's "good" in the holder's eyes, then he/she is the boss.
Yes, we can all settle on a simple cellphone but why settle for something ordinary when one can afford to have it all? It doesn't hurt to get a taste of a good life - if one can afford it.
The big statement here is IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.
I have seen a lot of people loading money, cheating and finding unconventional ways in order to get what others could easily afford. But who are they kidding?
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I think it depends on what someone necessity in their daily life. For someone like me who only an ordinary person with ordinary job, having smart phone is not necessary at all cos I dont need its sophisticated features such as sending email or checking flight schedule every time. I use cell phone only for calling and mostly for sending text. It's enough fir me when my cell phone has intetnet service cos sometimes I like to kill my time Facebooking or Mylotting via mobile phone. I dont like bringing notebook everywhere dues to the weight and size so I prefer mobile phone. But for someone else who involves in every technology changing which forces them to know the development of technology every hour every minute, I think they should have a smart phone due to its features which can be very helpful for them. Maybe I will buy one of those smart phobe to feed my curiosity of having a smart phone, but I wont do it only for self esteem..:)
