why people is not using their real names

I use my real name on facebook as I only add close friends and family on my facebook and don't add any strangers. Also, I have privacy settings set up there so I can use my real name and I don't accept strangers friend requests. However I guess some people just want more privacy therefore they don't want to have their real names or their pictures on these social websites

Some people wants privacy. They don't want anybody to know what they are doing. I don't use my real name on Facebook and the reason for it is I don't want the people I don't like to find me. I only add people that I want to include on my friends list.

I find these public forums way TOO public. Anyone can read about me and my business. A friend of mine, who is still trying to be in touch with me has been married again for about a year...he didn't bother to tell me even though he keeps ringing me. He must have thought I would not find out as he thinks I am not a FB user. It works both ways though. I check up on a few of my family members without them knowing I'm there. I'm anonymous on FB because I don't want anyone contacting me...it's a nuisance. This is not primarily a safety issue but more of an issue of anonymity. MsTickle is also not my real name. Maybe it is because they still want privacy or they want to be another person online....people have their reasons. It is not quite secure too- because there are lots of hackers out there.

The answer is simple and quite obvious: privacy That's, i think, the number one reason why people don't post their real names in public websites. Another reason is they hate their names, or they want a name that is unique, because sometimes there are people on facebook that have similar names and it's harder to find and add a friend who has the same name as many other people.

I don't use my real name either and I prefer it that way. I have reasons of privacy and such. I just don't need people from my past to find me, they weren't there for me then so why add them now or even show them what I look like now, etc.? I almost had a close call with some like that finding me and I'd really like to keep it away from them, I don't want to sound vain but I'm not that ugly little schtick they thought I was back them anymore and it's none of their business who I'm dating, etc.

Is this your real name?People tend to use aliases in using the internet for security purposes because there are a lot of bad elements in the cyberspace ready to attack to their perspective victims.They are very friendly but they are just hunting who they wanted to become a probable victim.Now what is the importance to know ones real name when it is just fun to do in the internet and not business.

Well it has two reasons I think. Some people use different name/photo cause they try to protect their own privacy, but on the other hand some people (most of it teenagers) use nicknames that they think are cool.

I think the reason why peopel don't use their real name is that they don't want others know who they are .They want to keep their privacy from others, in order not to be hurt ,as the society ,especially the world online is much too complicated.Or those who use a nick name are just doing it for fun.

Other than hackers. Few jobs might require their employees to use nicknames to prevent to be stalked! Those jobs are teachers, police, arm forces and ect... I'm you'll undersrtand the importance of employer side of this!

The reason for this is quite simple and obvious. People like their privacy. I do not use my real name on facebook or any such places since there is for one, too many hackers looking to get hold of your info so they can steal all you have. I make sure at all times that nothing private is anywhere to be found on my computer, not even in my own files. Private information like my name, passport number and bank details are all kept in a safe and never ever disclosed online. I once did make the mistake of putting my real photo up on a website and immediately got so many stupid requests from men all over the world that i immediately removed my photo and now always have an animation/avatar instead.

Nickname or realname is not matter, this is why people make cartoons ,they are colorful fantastic. If the photo is not real, for girls shy, boys tricky. If you met with people on facebook ,later you willy send each other real name, photo,even phone number, and other information. Some person like private. Only if people not cheat ,Versatile names,pictures are interesting.

I agree with your statement. I think that is not bad idea to share your name, remember it just your name. It can make you get disadvantages? In addition, you want to share or not it is your rights. It is my opinion. Have a nice day.

It is all right to use your real name if it is a common one and also if all you facebook is your real friends that you see all the time. I have one of those semi common names so that I do not worry and I do not put anything that s bad like gossip on facebook, but if one really does not care what they write, then they had better use a nickname. I go by the theory that if a person lives far away, why risk getting on a plane ortaking a cruise, then getting on the train just to go and confront someone if they really do not like what one writes on Facebook. Seems a bit ridiculous.

there really is nothing wrong in sharing photos and names but you can never tell what other people is thinking. especially nowadays, people that has nothing good to do and up to no good are always causing trouble to other people. s it is always better to be careful and there should always be privacy. i put my real name on my Facebook but i choose people who can view my photos.

Privacy matters to many people so why use real information so they can find you?

Not everyone likes to share pictures and personal information to the whole world. I don't have facebook because of that and I never would have. Maybe I sound paranoid, but that's my opinion. Another thing that may sound even more paranoid is that I think facebook is made exactly for this.. the government can read all the information that he need for you. And let me tell you one fact about facebook, once you made a registration there you can never shut it down.

Privacy, and not wanting to have a large internet 'footprint' are the main reasons people do not use their real names on facebook. Sometimes, people don't want to be found, or fear that there could be incriminating pictures or posts by friends to them that could lead to the loss of their job.
