The trouble with a kitten...

... is that she eventually becomes a cat.
Well, Nenya is officially a year old and no longer a kitten. I'm kind of sad, I was looking over all her old kitten pictures and missing when she was so small. But then on the other hand, I still adore her quite throughly! I've never had a serious pet before. I had three beta fish as a young kid (one at a time of course), and I accidentally killed a hermit crab in fourth grade. I'm allergic to cats and dogs, though I have LOVED cats from a distance my whole life. Last year I realized that I could spend time around cats my friends owned without bad symptoms, so my allergy shots must be really working. I ran out and adopted a kitten. My little diluted calico, Nenya. Now she's a cat and I love her even more. She's my baby. She's still on the small side for a cat, but I like her that way.
So how old are your cats? Do you miss when they were kittens?

Not really, she's got some new favorite napping spots including the rocking chair in the living room and the bathroom rug. She even sleeps in her kitty bed often enough. I'll post a few more pictures, she really is a cutie. But she's developed something of a little attitude! I'm hoping she'll mellow out as she gets even older.

ohhhhh dear ally so she is a spoiled little cat lady now. I bet Nenya helps you to make it through the crappier days in life so its no wonder you spoil her a bit.

Believe it or not - we have 12 cats! We never intended to have any pets since we were living in an apartment and most apartment owners do not allow pets in this country as the culture here is not a pet culture. But one day i heard this hoarse faint cry coming from afar. At first i thought it must be a little kitten looking for its mom and she will find her kitten soon, so i ignored it. But after 10 minutes and not stopping i realised something just isnt right and went outside the apartment building to go see if i can find the source of the cries. As i approached the very busy road in front i saw it! A tiny tiny little black kitten sitting in the middle of the very busy road, not moving, just crying heart rendering cries of fear. I immediately went and picked it up and saw why it didnt move..its back leg was badly broken and the little ones eyes were still blue - meaning it couldnt be more than two weeks old. I looked around if i could see any adult cat looking for it, but there was none, so i took it to my apartment, phoned the vet to get his leg fixed and got some baby cat milk - it was touch and go for him that first few days, we often felt that he wasn't going to make it, but he's such a fighter and got through it all.We named him Lucky (he was lucky i found him, we were lucky he came into our lives) and after a while we noticed that our once happy cat was not so happy anymore - so we took in another tiny little stray as friend for him- it turned out she was a female and soon was pregnant - she gave birth to 5 kittens. As i said before, the people here do not have a pet culture at all and actually mostly despise animals, so we could not find a home for any of the adorable kittens and had to keep them all. We then moved into a house with a garden and before we could spay all the females, the last one to be spayed got pregnant and we had another bunch of 5 kittens on our hands, which now makes the total of cats we have 12! Well, we love them all and had them all spayed so the "family" cant grow any bigger..hahaha

I believe it, though it seems like quite the unexpected chain of events that led to you having twelve cats! I can't imagine putting 12 cats in one apartment. I have enough trouble with just one in a house!

Whoops. Sorry, I must have gotten the details mixed up. Well it's great that you don't have to cram all those kitties in an apartment. It sounds like your house and garden are good fun for the kitties. It's strange to see how wildly different cats can be. My sister's fiance has a cat that is totally laid back and will sit in anyone's lap as long at they pet her. My cat doesn't like men and squirms away when you try to put her in your lap.

Yes it was quite an unexpected chain of events but luckily, as i said before, we do not live in an apartment anymore but has since moved into a house with a nice garden. I also can't imagine how hard it would have been having 12 of them in an apartment..would have made me stir crazy, i suppose..lol Here they have a garden to chase each other around in, and they go in and out the house as they please.. Funny how quickly one can grow attached to them and like everyone here said, to me it feels like i have 12 little kiddies, each with his or her very own personality and they give me hours of pleasure just watching all their shanannigans..haha

hey there ally of the rain,
Well I did have cats before and i adored them but we had to take them out of the house and leave them some place away from the house, it was kinda sad because I was sfond of both dogs and cats and my dogs were the only that can stay, well i still love cats and when the time comes that i have a family of my own i'll get a cat and get my dog from my mom. Nice topic.

My cat looks a lot like yours. :)
She'll be one year old by the end of June. It makes me sad to watch her grow up so quickly. I wish cats had a longer life span, the same as ours.
Like in your case, this is my first real pet, and I couldn't love her more.
I remember last year when my dad found her in our backyard; she'd just been born and was all alone. We had to take her home or else she'd die. She was smaller than the palm of my hand (so delicate), and now she's like this huge almost adult cat.
And even though I love her so much, I know I won't always be there for her. Soon I'll head out to college and she'll stay at my parents. It may sound silly, but I'm sadder for leaving her than them (actually, that sounds kind of mean/rude towards them). Like you said, she's my baby.

I often wish that cats had longer lifespans, or that they would at least stay kittens for more than a year. That's such a sweet story, and I can totally relate to being sadder to leave the cat then your parents. I'd miss my parents, but they can take care of themselves. A cat can be just like your baby.

I'm guessing my cat KC is around 7 now, but I can't recall now to be exact. I didn't get her as a small kitten, but a young cat.She had already been preggo once and was on her #2 litter but the vet didn't think she was preggo due to the fact she was ever so thin and he didn't feel anything. Turns out she was but in the really beginning stages and had them aborted before he "fixed" her. I'm just looking at your cat and she seems like she is a full blown calico. And beautiful!I'm not sure what a diluted calico is but aren't they more of a gray or gray/brown? I could be wrong. My cat is a gray and white cat with some "tiger" stripes and a tint of beige.

Well she does look less dark than a regular calico, and the "black" part of her fur was light gray when I first got her. The lady I adopted her from called her a diluted calico, and I've kept calling her that because she's still very gray in the black area. It doesn't come out that well in photos, but you can use the black chair as a reference to see how gray her "black" fur really is.
