Have you ever written something for a site, and then lost it?

Who U lookin' at? - Yes, I looked moody, didn't I, but in fact I was a pretty good-natured kid, although I was also hard to handle at home and school alike. My childhood has for some reason left me with a remarkably low tolerance for temporary setbacks.

What I mean is...have you ever carefully composed a piece of writing, tried to post it to a site, and then found the site has gone bye bye for a while? I just tried to write a movie review at a site where I've already written severla quite successfully, and this happened to me: the site decided to depart for a time. I spent quite a lot of time on it too, and it was a good review, carefully - dare I say it - beautifully composed. I have to say I went ga-ga when the site vanished into the ether for some unknown reason; but then I am highly achievement-oriented, with a low, low tolerance for setbacks. How about you? Has this happend to you? How do you feel when it happens? Do you go ga-ga too? Or do you just take it philosophically, pick yourself up, brush yourself off and start all over again?

Dejection? - He (me in '03?) looked it...perhaps he lost some writing?
Thanks you, Tamosree1993, and I'm glad it's not happened to you, it's not nice when it does.

Look at it this way, your piece was too Good for that site! Take Care.

I have not had that exact thing happen. I have had the experience of writing something for an order, then the person posting the order implying that I had copied it. I told them I would not rewrite it, they could ask someone else, because I would publish it on another site. In your case, I would seek out another site to publish it on, unless you believe that it will come back. In which case I would save it and wait for the return of the targeted site.

Hi Gerty, well I re-wrote it from memory, and it ended up being a highly crafted piece, as opposed to just something I fired off for fun, so I can post it at will now wherever I wish...:o)

I have been trying to earn online in the internet and even if I am still new at this game, I have experienced sites that suddenly disappear all of a sudden. It is just the way of life when you are trying to earn and in your case write in the internet. That is why putting your "eggs in one basket" is not a great idea even for non-monetary reasons. But have you somehow save what you have written in some notepad or something? Or is it lost forever in the netherworld?

I agree 100%, oOjopkOo...and in fact rarely put all my eggs into the one basket. I'm a published writer, and everything I write is backed up to within an inch of its life. But I still take the risk from time to time; and 99 times out of 100 it's fine. This time it wasn't serious, because it was a short piece, and I just re-wrote it from memory, and then "filed" it...in fact by the time I was finished with it, it was vastly improved from the version I originally lost.

Oh, how I wished I had a second floor where I can drop my laptop. Yeah, I had an experience somewhat similar to your own where I froze for a second and went crazy for a full 5 minutes. I was clawing at my hair saying all the curse words I can think off. When I had felt like my head would burst, I had to stand up and cool off. I went out, ate a fruit or two, drank some 3 full glasses of water and got back all poised and composed. So yeah, I know the feeling of doing your best on something only to lose it because of some technical problem. I guess it's better to type first your idea on something else before sending it online. Or much better, write it first on paper, then type it, then send it online--just to be safest. lol This is an interesting topic. Have a nice day and Happy MyLotting!

Thank you Rose, of course you are 100% right...it's always best to make a back up copy of everything...the internet is usually wonderfully reliable, but errors do occur; after all; everyone is only human.

It's happened to me a good few times too, Rose, and yet as a writer, all my most precious work is very intensively backed up. This was just a risk I took...but there was no harm done, I just re-wrote it from memory, and what resulted was far better than the original! :o)

I understand what you mean, CarlHalling. But most of the time, what I really blame for the cause of such "disappearance of our work" is due to bugs--the unwanted computer programs. I am more on the technical side of the computer software, most of the time, so I frequently experience such problems. Yeah, it's frustrating but what can I say? I love my work so despite having my hard-work popping into thin air, I still have my brain that can retain them all...and of course my back-up copy. As for online, whatever it is I send and got lost, I blame my poor internet connection. Now, this is something that will really tick me off that I would really want to throw my laptop out of the window. Why? Because what I do online is done on the spot. No back-up or whatsoever. I don't even remember how many times this happened to me, but it sure is so frustrating when it does.

I haven't had it happen yet, but I'm trying to protect myself in two ways. First, I make backups on all my best work I wouldn't want to lose. Second, I've started other websites on my own domains so that if one site disappears, as I'm afraid one might one of these days, I will have the backups and can integrate these works onto my own sites. I guess you don't want to tell us what site this is so we can avoid it?

I should have made a back-up, it's true. It's really my fault; temporary glitches do happen.
