Phone Rings and No One On Other End

Do you ever get days where there is someone who is playing with their phone and calling you and they don't say anything on the other end? This has been happening again today after a big lull for several days. It has been ringing off the hook today in fact. My mom is getting upset over it. Saying how she doesn't like the phone, and other crazy stuff that I would never imagine someone saying about those calls. Does it upset you quite like that when it happens, or do you try to just ignore it. She is actually upsetting me by being so angry over it, I don't let that kind of thing bug me. I told her I would take the phone off the hook if it continued on later and she is ignoring what I'm saying, as if i didn't tell her anything. It rang again a few minutes ago and I just picked it up and put it down again.

that happens to us here too and yeah it is annoying. but what we would do is hang the phone so no one can call again lol then just put it back after a few hours.

I learned what is happening when the phone rings and no one is there. It is telemarketers on the other end. The phone numbers are generated by a computer and also dialed by the computer. The computer will dial several phone numbers at the same time and the first one who answers is the one the telemarketer speaks to while the others are put on hold. This way they aren't wasting time with each phone waiting for someone to answer. (I learned this from a telemarketer)
I was going berserk with it continually happening ten or twenty times a day. I also was a bit frightened because you don't know what kind of person might be making that kind of call. Once I registered with the Federal Do Not Call List those annoying calls quit within a couple of weeks. Now when I get one of those calls I wait until I can speak with someone and then I tell them I am on the Do Not Call List and I swear that the person on the other end wets their pants!!! It is a $10,000 fine if they call one person who is on the Do Not Call List...and it gets worse if they call more than one person and get ratted on.
Hope I've helped you out a bit. I hated having those calls because I would drop everything to check the answering machine to see if it was someone I really wanted to talk to. Now I don't have to bother as the calls have dropped off to nothing and I am not wasting time going to the other room to see who is on the phone.

If your phone isn't registered you should do it. It's free! You'll find that those annoying calls quit after a few weeks. I went to the site and got the URL. This is NOT a link:
www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx.
You won't be unhappy that you registered your phones. They now accept cell phones too!!! It won't close out other calls you want and will end the "no one there" calls. I haven't had one since they established the list.

I have had this happen before. Sometimes people dial the wrong number and are too embarrased to say anything. Is it possible that it is someone who likes you and doesn't have the nerve to talk to you. They actually want you to answer the phone. Who would have your number?

Is there maybe a lose connection in your phone or some problem with it mechanically?

I'm not very sure. Last night it happened again twice. I almost hung up twice but I stayed on the line longer and it was the doctor! Then the second time it was a wrong number. I'm not sure if either of those were connected to the prior calls yesterday though. It's just too wierd.

Whenever I get calls like that I just usually say the most random things into the phone. Like, "I know who you are and I'm on my way to your house right now" or "Watch out, my psychotic brother says he knows where you live" .. usually they stop calling .. lol

Haha, thats funny. I needed those laughs, thanks. I have thought about things like that too and blowing the whistle into the phone. Sometimes it seems like people have a difficult time hearing when I say "hello" the first time too and so there's no answer, they say hello finally and I say hello again and finally it seems we have a communication going. Not sure if it is a problem with the phone or what.

lol..... I had someone doing this for a long time, until one day, I told them continue because the phone was being monitored and the phone company would probably be knocking on their front door shortly. That stopped it, and not sure if the person believed me or not, but it did stop!! Since they weren't into talking, they probably had a million questions after I told them that, but they would have had to break their silence. The truth is there really is a way to stop harassing phone calls through the phone company. Depends on where you are, and which phone company is your provider. Ask the phone company.

I did that long ago when I was a teen, something similar to it anyways. I then heard a child's voice, going "What? What?" and then I just hung up and they never did it again. Maybe this is another child or someone with a child's mind. I will ask the phone company, if I'm able and if it continues, thanks so much for the info.

It doesn't happen very often with my phone but i wouldn't let this kind of thing bother me at all. It is not worth it to worry about, I would just take te phone off the hook...

I told her I would do that too and she then starts worrying about the sound it makes and then the operator talking. I told her that it usually stops after awhile. But now since I picked up the phone and put it right down gently about 2-3 hours ago it has stopped for now. I will take it off the hook, later but it never does this all night. She worries for no reason at all, sometimes. She has been such a wreck lately and has been complaining of her stomach hurting (she is an overly nervous person), too, so I'm guessing that is the cause of all her worrying and crazy rudeness, etc. at times. I feel really stressed half the time being around her, she always reflects it onto me.
